• Lots of African shops have sprung up in recent years and there are a couple of trendy sporty type shops on the high street. But the best bargains are to be found in the market on Saturdays.

Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)

• Loadsa stuff down in the area...Creekside in nearby deptford is very well served, no, not forgetting that Goldsmiths has its yearly showings.
• Goldsmiths College often has student sales in the Library, pick up the next Damien Hirst for a fiver! Every year in May/June Fine Art, Textiles and Design hold the final year shows. Plus all year round check out performances and events by looking at the notice bourds in the main building.
• There's loads of Community arts stuff in Deptford, The Albany Theatre hosts anything from panto to rock bands, The Bird's Nest Theatre above the Bird's Nest Pub, Second Wave young people's Arts Project, Arts In Perpetuity Trust APT - an artists co-op, Rose Bruford College -Drama School, Deptford Arts Development Asociation (DADA) - with about 350 freelance artists & performers. There are cultural activities for an amazing number of different nationalities, Deptford is alledgedly the most culturally diverse spot in Britain.
• The Lewisham ARthouse(sic) is always well worth a visit, 140 Lewisham Way.

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
