Cinemas in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire*

Places to go to see the latest releases

You can tell us more about Aberdeen.

Cinemas
  • Belmont Cinema on er Belmont Street. Supposed to be an independent cinema, which it quite possibly is.
  • 3 cinemas. Go to Belmont if you want to see anything half decent without the distraction of clap ridden teenage scum.
  • Belmont Cinema is good comfy seats and clean and alot of alternative films not out in the big cinemas
  • Best place was Odeon but that's a gym now. I miss Odeon. It had sticky floors and it was a dive, and I loved it. Vue is the best in Aberdeen. For less mainstream films, The Belmont is best. The cinema at the beach isn't great.
  • UGC is now CineWorld, Belmont (but no one goes there) basically, its Vue everyone goes to.
  • dont bother with anything other than the BELMONT BELMONT BELMONT BELMONT BELMONT BELMONT BELMONT BELMONT BELMONT BELMONT BELMONT
  • belmont is good cause u dont hav to go down to the beach, some of the films it shows are a bit crappy but the prices are relatively low.
  • i go to the cineworld complex down at the beach which is very big, loads showing and there ae good restaurants and a drink in the carnivals before or after. i think the prices for food in the cinema is very expensive, and the manageress emma irvine is very sour looking but once seated it's as good as any.
  • Odeon is sadly now a gym, Lighthouse is the best one in town, 5 screens and quite intamite but there's no parking anywhere nearby, if you have a car best going down to the UGC at the beach. Belmont is ace for independent and more obscure movies, alot of amazing foreign films and underground films.
  • lighthouse has now taken over it's not worth going to the beacj to see a film as there is not alot there for 18-30's anymore
  • VUE, CROWDED THOUGH
  • UGC at the beach it is right next to a fairground what a night!
  • UGC Cinema - Beachside - Biggest, cheapest, but not great if travelling by bus. Vue Cinema - Shiprow off Union St. - Newest, nearly as cheap, most films on Belmont Cinema - Belmont St. - Arthousey films, bar, foreign films, THE alternative
  • belmont cinema for arty films
  • Vue is good (Lighthouse). UGC is nothing special and the Belmont is good for artsy films but kinda expensive.
  • ugc and lighthouse!Went into girls bog, some torry quine had been in there for 20mins and everyone pissed themselves when she walked out and the smell of fish and fags finally left too!
  • Belmont cinema in Belmont Street (mostly arty films. It's a little bit pretentious and I think you need to be a student with died black hair and seeral kilos ofpiercings to get employed there), the Lighthouse cinema on Shiprow (pricey but pretty decent) and the UGC at the beach (pricier)
  • 1st place..The Belmont..2nd The Lighthouse(although it would have got my 1st place billing if you actually got a seat number as it's a damn free for all on a Saturday night and you usually end up sitting with people you don't even know) 3rd....and only cos there is one more is the UGC down the beach...lets just say it's not very nice.
  • the belmont is THE place for the cinema. arts/old/foreign/indie films are shown here at ok but not the cheapest prices. has a good atmosphere and become a friend and get money off tickets, discounts at shops and the programme delivered. lighthouse is cheap and crap. UGC is expensive but has nice seats and big screens but the belmont beats it on choice.
  • The Belmont should be totally cool because the films are ace. It's just a shame that the manager makes it so patently clear that rich or poor, smart or scruffy, you ain't never gonna be good enough to sit yourself down in any of HER tatty wee screens!!!
  • The Picture House on Belmont Street. Big Up That bloke that looks like Silent Bob from 'Mall Rats' (I assume the guy still works there)
  • belmont or lighthouse not ugc cus its full of maggots with tight jeans and rockports goin "i min, fa you eyeba'in"
  • THE NEW LIGHTHOUSE CINEMA NEEDS MORE CREDIT COMFY SEATS AND U CAN CHOOSE WHERE U SIT
  • Belmont Cinema and the Lighthouse are best UGC sucks and is dead these days
  • The Lighthouse has the best huge comfy seats and yummy nachos
  • Belmont cinema on Belmont street (Duh!) Made instantly cool just be being on Belmont street, this is the only cinema in Aberdeen that shows art house and foreign films alongside mainstream stuff, holds a weekly kid's movie club, film courses and discussions with local film makers. The staff are realy cool, play excellent music and they sell Ben and Jerry's! Also has a really cool little bar downstairs.
  • laser tag at Sunset Boulivard is good. Lighthouse cinema is great and plenty of choice for after cinema networking. And bonus is you dont get knocked down by those tossers at the boolie. However the entertainment is there to watch the Fast and the furious in real life except missing the plot, don't expect supercars though. Novas and corsas are the catch of the day. particulary look for the ass in the shitty rusting fiestas racing nissan skylines - lol funny as ****
  • The new LIGHTHOUSE CINEMA IS MUCH BETTER THAN UGC
  • Well there's the lighthouse which is the new hip place to be on union street. Serves haagen daz which has gotta be good, if you can get the premier screen is pretty awsome there's a bar that all the poor people can walk past and long to be in. It's clean and fresh and in town. The belmont cinema on belmont street has gotta be worth a mention it plays all those foreign movies and classic black and whites, i think it's great that there's still that kind of thing about. I've never been myself mind. then there's ugc pah, big complex, they're everywhere, there's the whole "fun beach" as the council dobbed it, bowling, bars, eateries, rides, machines it's good for a night out.
  • Since the Odeon went, (brings tears to my eyes) I've been visiing the LIghthouse Cinema on Shiprow, the prices in there also bring tears to my eyes, but its a nice place.
  • The NEW LIGHTHOUSE cinema is excellent, theres no seat numbers you get to sit where you want, comfy seats, a haagendaz ice cream shop nice cafe, polite quiet staff! all round really nice
  • BEACH IS THE BEST PLACE FOR FILMS, UGC IS EXPENSIVE AND IVE NEVER BEEN, SO IT MUST BE SHIT!?!?
  • The Odeon near the top of Union Street. Laugh at all the divs that paid £120 for a year pass at the UCG when the Odeon is miles better.
  • OK Good cinemas we do have - theres the new Arts Cinema on Belmont Street which is a cosy little place with a mainstream films and film noir and also the new Lighthouse cinema which has really comfy seats - but don't go to the bar it's overpriced.
  • Theres a new cinema on belmont street !
  • Shame about the Odeon, I hate that big buggering een at the beach, the new Lighthouse looks nice, never been in it though
  • The Belmont,in Belmont Steet(where else)showcases many independent films that would not see even be considered at the Multi's ie,the UGC down the beach or the newly opened Lighthouse,on the site of the old ABC. RIP the Odeon.
  • Belmont cinema - ok so it's for pretentious bastards like myself, but hey it does play some great films - don't go at the weekend though - tickets are £5.50!
  • Please go to the Odeon, what more can i say? Very cheap on Mondays and for studentrs, t really needs the support of the locals, because if it closes down and the UGC is the only place in Aberdeen to see mainstream films (already a rip-off), then they'll be able to charge whatever they like. which is NOT good. Unlike, however, the Belmont cinema, aberdeen's "arthouse" (and i DON'T mean porn) cinema. Subsidised by the council, i believe. it's quite pricey too, but, in my opinion, it's worth it. You can see great foreign films here, and blockbusters long after they've left the other two as well. I hear tale of another multiplex, nautical themed, no less, opening soon on Union Street, where the Cannon, ABC, whatever it was called, was open. this place promises to be very good but i think you'll all agree that only time will tell. By the way, LazerQuest was good, but it's closed now and has been for AGES.
  • Virgin Cinema (now UCG with crap Megapass system) is sooooo good 'cause you can park there and get a meal and a beer inside, as a bonus you can go to the Amusements in the summer for a quick ride on the rollercoaster before or after the film depending on what you're going to see.
  • There is a screen in some place. guarded by hippies in raincoats riding caribous.
  • The Belmont cinema has opened and shows alot of cool non-mainstream stuff.
  • Of the three cinemas in Aberdeen...for commercial and cult showings the UGC down at the beach has to be the one to go to. Easily for the sound and picture quality UGC out strips the Odean!!!! even if you have to pay that little bit extra...it is definitely worth it!!! As for the Belmont....I have not personally been but haveheard a lot of good reviews for the place...especially if you are into your cinema/arts
  • Belmont Art Cinema, 3 screens, directors' films (often international) http://www.picturehouse-cinemas.co.uk/ab/welcome.html
  • Virgin has sort of eclipsed all the other cinemas, the ABC is now closed and the Odeon is looking like it might go down the tubes too. Shame because the Odeon is really good too, I still go there out of principle.
  • We've got two one is closing soon but there will be another multiplex opening in the city center. I forsee people avoiding UGC as it's too far away
  • The Virgin Cinema complex at the Beach is ten times better than anywhere lese for miles, but this is reflected in the price you pay to get in. There is a screen where you have comfy chairs and tables to put your food on. The Odeon is average, but don't try to get into the ABC Cinema: it doesn't exist any more.
  • Probably Virgin Cinemas is the best cinema i have ever sat my ass down in! Also a good spot in aberdeen is Lazerquest. They actually baught the costume of the alien in Alien and you can request it! it's fucking scary!
  • Virgin Cinema is the king, Odeon is crap!
  • The Virgin Cinema is great, but too expensive - Over a fiver at the weekend! If you are a Student go between Monday and Thursday because you get in cheaper!
  • At last we have a multiplex Virgin Cinema at the Beach Esplanade - things are looking up for Aberdeen and the Premier Screen is heaven in comfy seats.
