Cinemas in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion*

Places to go to see the latest releases

You can tell us more about Aberystwyth.

Cinemas
  • Don't go to Aber cinema (the one in town, not the arts centre). You are better off paying the extra bus fare to go to the New Apollo cinema in CArmarthen.
  • The new Commodore subterranian seating.. Ice creams from another time
  • if your into mold and various strains of penicillin get ennoculated at the flicks in Aber town... stay home and wait for the dvd!!
  • one boring cinema, plays the films a year after they come out. only has one screen, uncompfy seats. The art center has a tiny cinema too and its very comfy!!!
  • Arts centre cinema, shows old and arthouse stuff, very good, otherwise the commodore
  • The Commodore on Bath St rocks - It's the only cinema I've ever known which has a bar downstairs and lets you take as much beer into the film as you like!
  • I miss the Commodore Cinema - the only one I'm aware of where you can enjoy a pint and time your race to the ice cream hatch as the Corneto add comes on. There's nowhere quite like it - is there? Probably the best cinema in the world - ever. BUT the Arts Centre cinema has comfier seats which made Lord of the Rings more bearable.
  • ye but its a bit behind the realse date.
  • the comedore n the art center bt they show evry thing afta the event!!
  • Commodore for mainstream films Arts Centre for more independant/ artsy films we're lucky in this respect
  • The Comodore - replaced all it's seats about 10 years ago, except for the front few rows - what's that all about? Got much better over the years at having latest releases. Pity they got rid of the comical local adverts though (the one for the carpet place was my fav)
  • Commodore Cinema in town shows all the big releases but is very tatty. Arts Centre Cinema is gorgeous, but only seats 125, art house films and independants are the main programme.
  • The Commodore is probably one of the grottiest cinemas in wales... however, it will always hold a place in my heart as the first cinema where I could carry in a beer. I also looked upon it in a completely new light, after a particularly eventful walk in the hills (during mushroom season), when a group of friends and I watched X-Men. It took us 45 mins to actually reach our seats, after a commando style rolling session down the aisles.... and they didn't throw us out.... thanks lovely staff members!
  • The Commodore. It's a shed. But you can take beer in, if you buy it in the cinema bar.
  • The only cinema i have ever been to which stops after the credits to sell more sweets fab. Plus it has a bar so you can have a pint with the film.
  • The cinema has featured in many period dramas. Appatrently they will be showing Star Wars soon.
  • The local cinema is proper awesome! I challenge anyone to find a £10 a film mutliplex that lets u drink beer during the film, with all ur mates and people who you see every day. Any trip to the cinema is really a game of lets see who I know here. Abewr is such a tight community that you are guaranteed to know half the audience.
  • Aber Arts Centre. Good for unusual and interesting films, but limited seating.
  • has a bar nuff said...lol
  • Cinema; Unless your looking for that 1970's Suburbian look cinema with 13ft x 40ft Screen, Don't bother. The Arts centre has a big screen ussually only shows obscure films tho. But if their your 'knack' Then your in!
  • Aberystwyth's Commodore cinema gets films so late it hurts. When Star Wars Special Edition came out a few years ago, we were only getting the 1977 version!
  • Aberystwyth bowling alley (I forget the real name): If you ever feel the need to go to any bowling alley in the country. Make the special journey to Aberystwyth. It's an eye opening experince. Just finding it hard enough. Once you get there it's a faily normal bowling alley (taking into consideration this isn't anywhere near any major city) containing a bar, pool tables, bowling alley shoes. Everything seems normal until you knock over the pins and realise they are yanked back into place by the some sort of string method and most surprisingly it works. Also by no warning at some point in the evening everty thingh turns to Ultra Violet. If you go Winter, make sure you take a jumper!
  • Uci and mulitscreen cinemas eat your heart out the Comador is like your front room with a telly size screen (only one)
  • Now we have the Art Centre cinema, for the more obscure films... and also ones which won't be played in the commodore due to 'lack of commercial viability'.
  • God knows why people are so hard on the Commodore. If you live in Aber, you can't expect to have a cinema anything like the ones in decent towns(!) The best thing is that the screen's much bigger than at most multiplexes, and it's got a good atmosphere (for a cinema). The staff are friendly and it HAS A BAR. And the old-fashioned feel's really quite charming.
  • Hilarious Bowling with strings. And snazzy lights after 8pm I believe.
  • I would travel for miles and miles to see a film in a cinema that wasn't so badly designed... but I don't have to. The Arts centre is FAR better than the commodore, and also play some really quite obscure stuff.
  • I work in the cinema and the people are not crazy - we try to get good films but we don't get enough people to justify having the latest films on release so the film companies save the films for bigger cinemas - if we had more customers I'm sure that you could see films at the same time as the rest of the country! And if you compare our prices with other places I think you'll agree that if you think about it you won't mind waiting an extra two weeks to see something if you're paying less to see it.
  • Commodore cinema. mmmm, nice! Screwed up schedules so every film arrives 2 months after original release date. Has a bar as its redeeming feature. Bowling alley on the industrial estate is kinda quaint and tiny.
  • there is Commodorre and there will also be a new one when the Arts Center development is finished. The people in Commodorre are crazy. "Ronin" one nite "Bug's Life" three weeks...
  • Forget the Commodore - check out the Arts Centre for films
  • Expect a wait to see your film. Mondays are cheaper than the rest of the week.
  • One (The Commodore, one screen). And a half (The Arts Centre). Commodore's pretty good, although as it only has one screen films are rarely shown for more than one week (although a certain 'Titanic' broke all records by being shown for _three_whole_weeks_). The Arts Centre is about to undergo major redevelopment, and we are promised a cinema inside it, so by the millenium Aber should have 2 cinemas.
