  • Don't go to Aldeburgh if you can't stomach the Britten cult. No doubt about it, he was the greatest British composer of the second half of the C20th - but the feminine, camp, limp-wristed Britten clique who descend on the Red House and Maltings can be a bit off-putting. No wonder Malcolm Arnold said "keep your back to the sea"
  • Nigel Havers was around a couple of years ago filming part of a series called the 'Good Guys'
  • A very good artist, David Britton, lives near Aldeburgh, I think.
  • as i have been removed as a local villan, may i suggest that "people in glass houses do not throw stones!", there are many situations as in many small comunities that can attact the eye of the media such as the oakley square development , the new shed on the beach & the cross dressing of the local great & the good ! so be awrare the lid may be lifted on the "Aldeburgh Chintzville Pandora's Box!2 - You know who you are ! happy days BBC
  • Hugh Laurie was spotted amongst the many people drinking at the White Hart while waiting for fish and chips from the famous "Adleburgh fish and chip shop". He got a bit annoyed when some Hello Nigel asked him for his autograph. There's just no escape is there?
  • M.R. James of ghost story fame set one of his best in Aldeburgh: A Warning to the Curious. The Bear Inn in the story is in fact the White Lion.
  • Benjamin Britten, Peter Pears
  • There's an industry based on the fact that Benjamin Britten used to live here.
