The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
  • Might not be relevent for 'today' but Aldershot used to have 3 cinemas in the '70's; The Palace, The ABC & The Odeon. Also the Stock Car Stadium which also had a greyhound track, though technically that might have been Tongham. Best nites out in those days prob The Cap (Capricorn) A 'disco' club held at Heron wood boys school..every1 was welcome. Best chip shop was in Newport rd. Best healthfood was Spud u Like, Victoria rd, Yukki Kentucky was the only other choice!
  • calling all ballers come to manor park. some of da tings u see der will be mesmerizing.
  • I have lived in Aldershot all my life, and I don't think it's the best town, but as a residant, I feel I have to right to make my opinion heard. But even I, when a newcomer had the cheek to insult it, jumped to it's defence. It's not a terrible town. Just remember, it was a military town originally, and it's come a long way. Just ask someone like Peter Harrison!! And, if you really don't like it... there's a perfectly good train station!
  • Disagree with the comment about Royston Vasey. The submitter has obviously never been to Freshawater, Isle of Wight!
  • The Aldershot Town Centre Management Company are launching a web site to promote the town centre, show off how much the town has changed and how great the community spirit really is. So keep an eye out for updates in the very near future.
  • No matter what any one says Aldershot is a nice and friendly place - and if anyone thinks they are too good to go there, well thats there loss!
  • Everything good about the town is (has been) wiped out by the council. Even sold a whole original Victorian school (two now) for more houses, lots of back handers, even half of Manor park.
  • the GEORGE HOTEL ALDERSHOT IS NOW THE GOOSE.
  • I love the town Aldershot and my it live on for the sake off us all we all love if not why live there
  • Getting around in Aldershot - A Line/Melita taxis, cheap and reliable with polite friendly drivers and operators
  • The Bowling Alley on a Saturday is a wicked place to spot Mullets and general comedy.
  • Only prob with Aldershot is it is too damn far from the coast for my liking. Lots of nice flower beds - check out the one that is perminently in the middle of the Burger King roundabout. Surely though Rushmoor Borough Council have more important priorities with their budget like housing the homeless etc. Everyone took the mick out of Aldershot this year - they didn't take down some of the Town Centre christmas decorations until March! Bloody idiots!
  • People tend to think that squaddies are the scum of the earth, but I would like to speak in there defence. Soldiers are fit, work hard and play even harder and have a full time job. The alternative to this are the drug addicts and unemployed men who still wear shellsuits, huge soverign rings and can't string a proper sentence together without swearing. These are the guys that get the teenage girls pregnant.
  • There is absolutely F**k all to do in Aldershot so dont come. Even the new shopping centre is crap.
  • If the council were to stop faffing around with Farnborough and spend just a little of that council tax on the tax payers in Aldershot. I bought my house in 95 for£57.500 and its now worth £110.000, Aldershot is becoming more desirable, so dont believe all the pesamists tell you.
  • If you are not a member of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment then DO NOT say 'Do it for the Reg! Good skills, crack on! I'm lost but I look great' unless you want a severe smacking!
  • Vast areas of Army land are good for dog walking, mountain biking, moto crossing etc.
  • Best thing: A.N.A Oriental Foods (IMHO)
  • This has to be the shortest revue for any town in the UK, does this win an award? There are no highlights in the town. A demoted football team, a skanky cinema, the odd chip shop, maybe they should make an episode of Red Dwarf here, you have to smile, Rob. :-)
  • I was born in Aldershot, but then so were most of the rest of HM Forces brats (mind you, I heard they're closing the military hospital there, so maybe that'll put a stop to such antics)! Either way, being the star that I am, I think Aldershot had a lot going for it on a cold night in December many, many moons ago.
  • Whilst Aldershot used to have a demoted football team, they now have a very good football team in the ICIS league who will be - hopefully - getting promotion to the Premier League. Next year, it could be the Vauxhall Conference league and then.... the football league. So things are looking up!
  • Next, if you need to buy a mobile telephone in Aldershot, then come to Telefonix in Victoria Road. The No 1 centre for mobile communications in the South!
  • PRE/POST FOOTIE ROUTINE (1) Arrive in town by car/bus/train (2) Browse shops in Wellington Centre (3) Go to Ourprice and browse. (4) Think over what you want to buy by eating huge ammounts in McDonalds (personal best is 6 cheesburgers, large fries and two milkshakes). (5) Go back to Ourprice and buy what you decided in step 4. (6) Crawl to football match and shout your head off in the East Bank. (7) If a loss then a BK milkshake - if a win, then more McDonalds until no more can be eaten. (8) Go somewhere else (Ash, Woking, Guildford) and have a good night out. (9) Repeat for every home game in the season.
