Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars in Alexandria, Strathclyde*

Where to go to get down

You can tell us more about Alexandria.

Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
  • my flat on a fri/sat rave up
  • A few night clubs in the area, but nothing to write home about.
  • Desire(Dire)and The Backroom(The Backward Room). Both as bad as eachother. If you dont get trouble from the punters you will from the bouncers.
  • Well Im pretty sure if you ask any1 what there favourite club is they would say the Riverside Inn( informally known as the Dilly). The Riverside has a very strict no drugs policy as does all other clubs and pubs owned by the Alan Wright Leisure Group. So maybe it is the younger generation that go to the Riverside and Dempseys, there may be a few older ones but I certainly wudnt call it 'grab a granny/granpa'. If I saw my nana or Papa there I wud keel over in shock. In fact if I saw any gran or granpa I wud be pretty well shocked! The Back room, Raffles and duckbay may be more suited to older people, and I have seen no complaints coming from there. And Nightingails had shut down to be re-opened as Desire, a new nite club with new owners.
  • dempseys and the riverside are not as bad as wot they are made out to be, when dempseys nightclub reopened it was a bit empty at first but now that the riverside(Dilly) is only opened on a Saturday, Dempseys is really busy on Thursday, Friday and Sunday Nights
  • Can I just have my say on the subject of the Nightlife here in balloch? (thankyou) as I disagree with most of the Postings here. Alot of the users are criticising something that alot of people appreciate. I wonder how many of you would complain if Balloch turned out to be "just a small town for the Tourists" Which IS starting to happen. The Council are planning on turning Balloch into a quiet town, for the tourists to view the "magnificent sightings", Okay, so people crawling out of the Pubs and clubs around here may put the tourists off visiting the area ever again, but thats THEIR problem, Dont the locals deserve something to do at weekends? Not ALL of us can afford to travel up to Glasgow you know. Some (like myself) are college Students with hardly any cash. In my Opinion, The Beechwood, Dempseys, Raffles, and the Backroom are excellent. It gives me & many friends, something to do, I for one would HATE to have no nightlife here at all, Imagine having to depend on trains and buses to get to clubs further away! We should start realising how lucky we are to have "something" in the area, because sooner or later, thats all going to change. And I can bet that the ones complaining will miss having these Clubs and Bars once their gone. I know i will.
  • I couldn't imagine a worst way to spend an evening than to frequent a club in Alexandria or Balloch. Have the patrons of these dumps never heard of Glasgow? The local 'nightlife' (aka pondlife) is definitely to be avoided at all costs. Very amateurish set-ups and large neddy bouncers abound.
  • theres a new nightclub opened up in balloch called the back room, which is literally the back room of raffles. its a good night if you like being confined to a tiny space full of sweaty bodies and having drinks split on yu every 2 minutes
  • I wonder if the person who wrote the last comment owns Nightingails?!? If u enjoy goin out on a Saturday nite in a club where sweat drips from the ceiling then you'll have a great time in 'Nightmares' - it has that nickname for a reason you know. And please do take a look at the website...it's so funny, for all the wrong reasons.
  • Nightingails, on Balloch road, was once nick-named Nightmares and is STILL called nightmares despite new initiatives and manager in recent years(the bloke with BAD Goatee). Some of which has included new staff and the introduction of a podium(spray-painted table) and a website(actually a GOOD website which is nice...). Looks like getting better and better, although 'Ann The Man'(Hairy Bouncer Type) still insists on power tripping with the female clientele. Now i dont know about most, but as a 20 year old male clubber the 'young looking' females are a good reason to visit this club. 8 out of 10.
  • Riverside/Beechwood - would be better off being renamed 'Grab-a-granny/grandpa'. The only people to go here are has-beens and neds. Stay well clear!
  • A funny thing happened a few months ago..... The people who own Dempseys nightclub (mentioned above) bought the Dillichip hotel, changed its name to the Riverside or something, and opened the upstairs part as a nightclub, similar to Dempseys.... I guess they thought they could run two successful nightclubs.... but what actually happened was that as soon as the new one opened, everybody just went there and Dempseys was left deserted...hmmm....oops....and as far as I know, it's still like that to this day...
  • Nightingails is not and nor has it ever been owned by Raffles or the same company. Nightingails has been running for now over 6 years and continues to thrive. While not in the same league as Ministry of Sound, the club has a tremendous vibe and allows people to let their hair down without anyone judging you or the label on your clothes. Almost all the comments in these postings are negative. A lot of people try to make things better and unfortunately the odd few always like to criticise. Nightingails has a website with photo galleries, so judge for yourself if people enjoy themselves at the club. www.nightingails.co.uk
  • Dempsey's upstairs. Friday & Saturday nights, seems to be the place you go to if you're NOT under 25. Consists of people trying to wring the last of any delusions of youth they still have before they finally accept that they're past it. Same songs everynight. On the way to the loo be careful you don't slip on the floor-cum-swimming pool.
  • Nightingails on Balloch Road opposite Raffles and under the same ownership. Absolutely appalling place to go, Raffles empties into it just before 12 every Friday and Saturday. Prepare yourself for an onslaught of young bimbos who sit next to you and pour Becks in your whisky and make you drink your beer through a straw. It is known locally as Nightmares.
  • Duck Bay Marina, Poseurs and Rangers players only.
