Live Music Venues
- (May2005)Desire has started playing live music on a Friday night, The backRoom have an open Mic night and then you get the odd band in The Tully or Waders.
- Head for glasgow again.
- The community centre in Alexandria has seen a few bands play there. Most of Alan Wright Leisure groups clubs ets play bands on the occasional time. Also then the tents come in the summer to balloch there is things such as the Battle of the bands.
- Balloch park woz once used 4 oasis but that woz ages ago. About once a yeer the radio 1 roadshow cums. but its usually cancelled coz of the rain.
- The Fountain bar has been bought over in the last year or 2 by new people.... now called the Fountain Tavern.
It has been done up a fair bit and now doesn't have that red-light-house look about it any more. It still appears to be the only successful place in Alexandria that has live bands on at the weekend, and so is always busy on Fridays and Saturdays.... the live 'Jam' sessions are held there on a Sunday when it's holiday time..eg. easter weekend.
- Not very much. The Fountain Bar top of Bank Street is a rather small so-so place but they put on live bands every Friday & Saturday. Usually known as Prem's. Some of the clientele here shift at closing time along to Dempseys a bit like the Raffles/Nightmares thing. Occasional live music other places. Every 6 weeks or so there can be live jam sessions in some pub or other. Seem to be popular with people attending from outwith the area ie. Glasgow, Stirling etc.
- Balloch Castle Country Park, not used very often but becoming THE place for big outdoor gigs in Scotland. In recent years it has played host to Runrig, the Radio 1 Roadshow, and of course, Oasis, in August 1996. Gets licenced to hold 40,000 spectators but could easily hold a lot more.
