Pubs
  • (May2005) The BackRoom in balloch isn't as bad as it is made out to be, in fact it can be really good, mainly on a Friday though, Saturday nights are in deed far too busy, if you want a night out where you find a spot at teh start of the night & sit there all evening then thats ok.. because you can hardly ever get to the bar or toilets. Sundays they have a resident Pole Dancer, but she's mutton dressed as lam.. seriously.. she looks 30ish and plasters on the fake tan. Desire is a Great laugh on a Thursday and Sunday, Sat/Sun DJ is called Ross and he's so sweet.. looks loke Judge Julez a lot! If neither of these places take your fancy & your'e skint there is always Cheers in Dumbarton.
  • How aboout an update. Mannequins has been "THE LAGAVULIN" for at least the past five years. Mine Host "DREW" we suspect wears a wig but otherwise is a good guy. The lady, and they are Ladies, bar staff are polite, helpful, young, beautiful and serve you fast. Between walking in and being served it takes about 3 secs to my being served. Drew naturally takes a bit longer. Only kidding Drew. By the way the beer is good as are the prices. Good atmosphere!
  • plenty good pubs like manequins on the main st. highlander in overtoun st. fountain bar and mckenzies along the main st. old vale bar towards dumbarton. all quite good.
  • Dempseys pub has a good atmosphere. Everyone knows eachother and enjoys the banter and the kare-oke on thurs-sun nights or they go for a game of pool in the separate room at the back. If you dont know the regular Dempseys Boys before you go in, you'll soon get to and all the others aswell.
  • Well theres plenty of local pubs such as Fentons, The Dog house, The waterside, The Old vale bar, The glenroy.
  • Nothing worth knowing about in Alexandria as they are all infested by abosolute jakies!!! However, raffs in Balloch is a good laugh though nip next door to the Glenroy if you are watching those pennies. The Glenroy is also particularly nice on a hot day as it has a beer garden where everyones sits and gets horrendously sunburnt whilst enjoying a beverage or two.
  • Just to tell you Raffles is not owned by the same person as Nightingales. The Balloch Hotel has a pub that is a good laugh
  • As described above, except that the Parcel of Rogues has been closed for a while now. They stopped the terrible karaoke singers so they stopped frequenting the pub! and that was that. Just before it closed somebody told me that it was being affectionately called the Parcel of S___e!
  • Raffles is Balloch's 'trendy' pub, loud music, neon signs and bottled beer etc. On Balloch Road in Balloch just along from the station. It is usually packed especially between 10 and 12pm at the weekend.
  • Mannequins is Alexandria town centre's 'trendy' pub, loud music, neon signs and bottled beer etc. It's on the Main Street, next to McDermids. It is usually deserted, as the town centre is just not a trendy enough place for the trendies to go to. They're all at Raffles.
  • The Dog House, squeaky clean decor, brass handrails along the bar and all that sort of thing. You almost want to take your shoes off before going inside. They play excellent music though, and its not too loud so you can even have a civilised conversation. Well worth a visit, it's on the corner of Balloch Road and Dalvait Road.
  • Parcel of Rogues, new name, new coat of paint outside, appalling karaoke singers, it's on Balloch Road near The Dog House.
