Skateboarding Spots
  • em well the park is pretty shite, we have an 8 foot over vert, and an 7 foot vert, and 5 ft and 2 6ft bowls and a spine and a small hip/tear and a crap mini thats getting filled in and a roll in. there is an ok 7 set, but the ground is to rough leading up 2 it, and also a brill 4 set, but the put up fucking gates to stop people trying to jump them. stupid timothy mckay! (robocop)
  • I'd love to, but I can't go back. Park's built now anyway. Do low income houses have their own spots? And what about single parents? Are they allowed to donate?
  • Instead of whingeing about what Alford lacks re skateboards, get your mummies and daddies in their big incomer houses to send a considerable donation to Alford Wheelers so that they can get on with building the skateboard park.
  • there are no decent ones at all. believe me, we spent whole fucking days of school walking around the whole village looking for them, but they aren't there. There used to be the techy ledge, but that got blocked off. Now there is the ski slope car park, with very mellow flatbank, some blocks that don't grind, and any obstacles set up. the brand new bus lane part at the academy, which is shit. very smooth tarmac, which is nice to roll on, but has no pop, and rips into you badly if you slam. this is where most of the young kids skate thesedays, ollieing cones, and there is a semi-decent set of four steps there, with an angled run up, and you can manual pavements if you want to. The co-op car park has typical pavement high blocks, only kerb so they don't grind, but very nice surface, some typical trolley park rails, but the blocks are excellent for manualling the days away. round the front of the swimming pool has some higher walls that still don't grind, but can be popped off, and also next to the vendor window of the school, just up from the community centre, are a couple of steps which do grind, but the surface on run up is cracked and awkward. At the public hall on kingsford road the front step grinds without wax, but is awkward and very short. There are wooden benches on main street that could be boardslid f/s and b/s and lipslid, and manualled. There are some gaps to be leapt at the swimming pool carpark, some small, small kerbs to be ground, and again, pavements to be manualled. Next to the library are some ledges, nice height, but need waxed, will probably crumble, and surface is duff, also at library 2x rough wheel chair ramp/flat bank. on the positive side, there is a current fundraising drive for a concrete park (!!), to be situated next to the dry ski slope in the 'plej', which has had money set aside for ages, originally for mini-ramp, but now upgraded to concrete, hence funds needed. we can only hope this is built soon, as another concrete park is always good news, and the lady behind the plans is leaving her post soon, so if it is not built soon, maybe never... if you get the chance, and are in strathdon/bellabeg there is a small DIY park set up in the tennis courts. go up for the lonach gathering around 25th august, it's always a laugh.
