Cringing Cult of Celebrity
  • ALASTAIR YATES,presener of BBC NEWS 24 & BBC WORLD TV, went to Manor House School, Ashby. He has farming family here. He was at RADIO LEICESTER in the mid 70's.
  • Stephen Graham (Tommy off Snatch) was in the bulls head last nite! I was dancing next to him! He lives in Ibstock
  • Ian Walker (ex-Spurs and England)seen drinking in the White Hart and The Lamb. Brazilian footy team trained at nearby hydro before Jamaican game recently. England also train there sometimes. Sometimes occasional footy player/teams will stop for a drink in town if playing local clubs.
  • Chris Bart Williams the ex Forrest Defender used to live along side Willesly Golf club
  • David Nish (Derby, England) and Rodney Fearn (Leicester), both footballers who went to ABBGS.
  • ADRIAN MOLE - FAMOUS OR WHAT!
  • Simon London (old presenter of the National Lottery), once made a wrong turning off the A42 and actually PASSED THROUGH the town!
  • Duke Sapphire, the wrestler, is usually knocking about. He's always good for a laugh.
  • BRIAN LITTLE AND GARETH SOUTHGATE ARE NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOURS.
  • How could people forget Clint Eastwood??? Not THE Clint Eastwood of course, but the old bloke in the cowboy hat and played the 'Spoons'. He was a regular on That's Life. Also there was 'Sexy Vera' - who some from ashby Grammar will remember to be the rather tatty looking old lady that used language that would make a docker blush. And John Hurt was a boarder at the Grammar School.
  • David James (goalkeeper), Chris Bart-Williams and the Class Leicester City player Gary Rowett are reported to live in and around the area. I have seen that Lenny bloke from Eastenders as well in The White Hart.
  • Isn't Adrian Mole living in Ashby these days (see The Guardian magazine section on Saturdays, inside back page).
  • Shirley Bassey, Wendy Craig and Kathy Staff all live in places other than Ashby. Lenny from Eastenders (Bonny Lockhart) was down the Lamb one night, then he went to Trav's, and once I saw a bloke off 'Blind Date' in the Lamb too. Fascinating.
  • Romilly Lunge, an actor from the 1930's.
  • Frank Bruno the Boxer used to train in Ashby DLZ!
