The Knowhere Guide

Pubs in Banff, Aberdeenshire*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Banff.

Pubs
  • The Central can be good at the weekends if there's a band on. Sometimes you'll get some of the tidy chicks wandering over from the Castle, pissed and end up dancing in the Central before heading off to the Seafield "Night-club".
  • The Ship for teenies and stud-ents, the Castle for a fight, Aul Fife for no conversation and poor Karaoke, the Central..em owners wife is a bobby.
  • There is a big 1 in macduff on mackie road but I kana mine the name
  • The market arms, the toll booth, sour faced old birds behind the bar, sour faced old bloked this side of the bar but if it 1 o'clock in the afternoon i can think of knowhere better.
  • Never really gone for a drink in Banff - the Central's apparently alright though. Macduff, for cheap drink - the Ten-Pin Bowling place.
  • the aul fife, really nice inside, really nice locals esp when we went to play pool during our frees at school back in the day the only off putting thing was the bar maid who took a bit of a dislike to us after that and refused us entry, I was 18 at the time too. Castle bar, never been in a friend of mine says "its full of toss". never heard a bad report about the ship, was in there a few year back, packed on saturdays.
  • Auld Fife used to be dead busy and a good laugh but it kind of died off. The Castle was quite good too.
  • on low street near the bookeys
  • Banff is reasonably well served for pubs - I mainly attend the ship, as it has a nice atmosphere and the staff are friendly. For a slightly old-fashioned place, it attracts a surprising amount of young people, too. Other pubs include the castle, which has the advantage of serving aftershock, and it has a nicer pool table and is slightly bigger. It is however a lot more crowded (you'd be hard pushed to find a seat) and the staff can be a bit unfriendly at times. There's also the railway, which (rumour has it) has a playstation, and the central, which holds a disco every so often. Finally, there's the market arms, which I have somewhat of a bad history with.
  • The Aul Fife is OK. The Ship is quiet, the Market's for locals, really. The Central too, but younger folk tend to go to the Castle or the Railway.
  • No shortage. The ship is the best by far, (stars in Local hero) Auld Fife, Central, Railway, Castle.
  • The ship - best pub in the world freatured in the film local hero unfortunatly this means marc knoffler is on the jukebox.... The central nice pub The market arms bit old manish The auld fife bit emptyish
