I,m adopted and my Birth mother is listed as living at this address in 1947 and working as a clerk for the Ministry of Supply on my Birth Certificate.Her name was Moira Blades,could this address have at one time been a home for unmarried mothers? Anyone have any information on this? I hope this is the right place. I'm looking for info on the above sisters and brother. Horace was my husband's father. They had no contact after Barry was 5 years old but he always wanted to find him. Unfortunately we did find him too late. He was living in Hove Sussex and his ashes are scattered at the crematorium there. Barry visited England five years ago and went there. Horace 'other' family d id make him welcome but none of them had/have a photo of him...that's all Barry would like, he doesn't expect anything else. Have lived in this town all of my life and was apostal \officer before office was downgraded and then an advertising manager at the mercury before retiring through ill health. I have 2 sons and `2 daughters, and my youngest son is a retained fireman and has been desperatly tryting to find a job here. If he does not find a job to fit in with fire duties i.e being called out for an emergency, he wil l have to move away. Why does Barnard Castle not have jobs to keep young people here, and why o why does all the new property beintg built only cater for the over 60's? ... more >> Reply

I expect this site has loads of folk like me wondering how the enthralling and enchanting Hanna Hauxwell is doing today? Could anyone offer me an up to date account of Hannah? Is there any way of contacting her even? Like so many who have followed her rise to unlikely and unasuming celebrity I have been captivated by this dear lady's innocence and victorian charm.
