  • Monken Holt. Mitre. Albion.
  • Mitre, Avenue, Monken holt depending on mood
  • Monken Holt at the top of the High St. Easily the best nowadays but that's not too hard in Barnet! Last of the locals pubs. Best thing is that it seems all ages and you dont get nasty looks from the old geezers supping their ales allday. Best place to take your girlfriend and avoid your mates on a Sat night too.
  • Wetherspoons in New Barnet is OK for a cheap pint.
  • Been away working in Holland for five years and shocked at what has happened to the great Barnet pub circuit. Friday night and only four pubs had any atmosphere whatsoever in the High Street. The Firkin now The Avenue was full of teenage girls and their big brothers mates trying to pull em! The Mitre was packed with another strange crowd not as I remember it at all. The Moon was choca with bargain hunters buying fantastically cheap booze. Good ole Tim Martin still on a winning run. And I ended up in the Monk which was very lively but seemed to be operating a strictly over 30's policy! As far as I could gather all the landlords seem to have changed too. Ron & Jan have left the Mitre. Also sad to hear that Bernie is no longer in the George which seemed to be doing "afters" with the lights off for 6 people at 9pm! I was told that Bernie got sick of being invaded by kids and has gone to a proper pub in South London. Oh and the long serving barman Nigel at the Monk seems to have been replaced by Pete from the Mitre. Apparently Nigel retired to go and be a journalist in Cornwall. Oh and the Windmill's closed down and the "Willie" is closing next month too. What a sad state of affairs.
  • The Railway Bell is cheap and cheerful. Good cheap food too, but if pub food ain't your thing, check out 'The Golden Palace'. They do the best post piss up burgers, and only a short stagering distance from the bell. Blinding!
  • Nothing on Cockfosters Road, apart from Mojo. The Cock and Dragon is behind the cricket ground.
  • Violent pubs in Barnet: Moon Under Water, Felix and Firkin, Crown and Anchor. These pubs attract a distinctly moronic element, characterised by cheap sportswear, Reebok Classics and wet-look haircuts. Kappa anyone?
  • Moon Under Water in the High Street for cheap beer (Weatherspoons) or the Firkin and Flat on yer face for loud other stuff (down the hill). Barnet has got loads of pubs, as it was the first major coaching stop out of London going North. The Builders Arms tucked away by the bridge at New Barnet serves good Abbot
  • Loads of pubs around and about. Some great off the track boozers such as the Builders Arms in East Barnet ( Station Road, under the bridge and left after the Railway ( Weatherspons Pub))
  • The Crown & Anchor is definitely not for the younger crowd, and is certainly not violent. Updated to February 2001. Not sure when previous listing was done. Would be grateful for a correction. The Landlord.
  • Old Windmill for the younger drinker, Firkin, Bar Ten (used to be very violent), the crown and anchor (still very violent if you catch it at the right times) There are some small pubs with lock ins as well
