The Best Things
  • NASA EMPLOYMENT ROLES CARE ASSISTANTS: Another employment position where people have a false high opinion of themselves throughout the Gawber area is Care Assistants. Many care assistants around Gawber all think they are qualified doctors. If this is the case show us your medical degree following your seven year studying and investment of £15’000 of your money. ! In fact I bet 98% of all care assistants do not have a degree of any form, and those that do have a degree will be the foreigners that come into our country and are just grateful for any job. Care Assistants like call centre workers from Wakefield are potential NASA employees due to obtaining the high flying NVQs levels 1 and 2 in being a doctor, and developing the skills to builds a rocket in less than two years. We expect care homes around Gawber to start launching rockets from the year 2010 onwards due to the high number of master degree doctor graduates they contain. This is a job which is usually filled by a person without any form of degree, but they are riddled with NVQs like the typical stereotype local person. In my opinion I believe this is a excellent job for all those women without degrees, it leads to developing a aura with most of the local people because this is the level most can relate to. A care assistant is a necessary job but please don’t make it sound like you are a qualified doctor.
  • In responce to the person who stated that Barnsley is dominated by low qualified people that make their life sound great. It is all true pal. Having lived in Barnsley for two years I have come to the conclusion that NASA Space from the USA have built a new facility in Barnsley. Listening to the locals you would think that each morning they leave their homes for a position of employment with NASA. I did not know that there was so many Master and PH Degree qualified people in Barnsley. Filling Master and PH Degree level positions with NASA. I feel it is a case of "The fake BArnsley Bubble of My life is great and my job is NASA employment". I reality people without any forms of Degree are going to fill the local care homes and call centres up. Nothing more, nothing less. Sadly NASA does not exist in Barnsley.
  • Living in this town is soul destroying and can zap the zest out of your life. It is just one long slog. Everyday is the same.

  • MI M8S
  • i feel that everyone who slags barnsley off is seriously jealous of the fantastic community and bond which we all have with eachother. i have lived here all my life and would proudly stand up and be counted as one of the proudest people to be from this town. i will never move and the people who slag it off should just stay the hell away, and carry on with their sad little lives........
  • Barnsley people are usually ridiculed for their distinct lack of brainpower. A lot of the time this is true, but I guess it affects the younger generations, and it's certainly NOT exclusive to the area. A lot of "youths" can't string two words together in a coherent manner. We seem to be reverting back to primal communication round here too - series of grunts, shouts, farts, whistles and clicks being the mainstay of getting the message across. Sometimes, for emphasis, such things as sticks, stones, bricks or large objects are used to reinforce their state... as is marking territories with either paint marking - per Aboriginies, or scent marking with urine or faeces - even a strange mixture of all of that.... But - Barnsley people - or at least in certain areas - WERE (before the pits shut) decent, hardworking, family orientated communities. Where I live now (and I've lived up and down the country and was born in the Midlands - another area for stigma of thickos) most of our neighbours get on with us and each other. There are a small minority who "don't care" - and who are shunned by us because of their behaviour. I work in a firm where the manager chose Barnsley above all else, because of our "fighting, can do, spirit" and also to give people round here a chance for the better. He's from the south somewhere, so to me, that counts. I've got family here - and down south. No difference. Difference being that Barnsley people are generally more amiable... more likely to talk to you than ignore you. Don't dismiss Barnsley as a shithole, because its not all like that. Remember, most places have their "shithole" too, and no town or city is immune. Barnsley cops for it because it is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the UK - some 250 square miles I think.... that's far larger than London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester or Liverpool (I didn't include Sheffield because it's actually PART of Barnsley Metro in some areas, strange that) Also, if you REALLY look at a map of the UK, you will see that Barnsley is more centralised for access anywhere, than ANY other location in the British Isles. Period. I was born in the Midlands... raised in Barnsley.... and I'm far from thick - I'm educated to degree standard despite a poor education due to "reforms" by succesive governments. There seem to be too many idiots on this forum slagging each other off.... Go do something really constructive... like get run over by a bus or something....
  • Everything. dunt listen to all the stuck up snot nosed bastards who think there tarn beats us put ya off. I lived here all my life n t b honest id only move abroad Cos all other stuck up shitty tarns r SHITE.

  • A good night life (as long as you know the right places to go and where to avoid), slowly but surely more quality shops are coming into town (finally we have a HMV!) and restaurants like Giovanni's, Chilli, The Grill, China Moon are all proving good.
  • Fresh seafood salad from the Market (£1.60)
  • Barnely is a lovely place to live, i agree there are some unpleasant areas, as there is practically anywhere on the earth. But there are also nice parts, so dont go slagging off a town that probably half of you dont even know what is in it.
  • COMING HOME FOR VISITS
  • tehres nothing good bout been here
  • Only the natural scenery counts as a good, nay great, thing about barnsley. The views from some places are stunning. There truly is nothing else. I've lived here 5 years and it is truly the worst place I have ever lived (I've lived in Brum, London, Oxford, Lancashire, Ohio and Leeds to name a few). Anyone who thinks there is anything remotely attractive about barnsley has never, ever been anywhere else. The people consider anyone who doesn't come originally from there own closed off little community as "Foriegners". Take Darfield, where I live, they hate people who live in Wombwell, and vice versa. That is somewhat ridiculous to say the least!
  • The bands, barnsley is currently knocking out
  • THE PEOPLE THAT ARE CALLING BARNSLEY PEOPLE 'THICKOS' 'RACISTS''SCUM' ETC, ARE EXACTLY, IN WHAT THEY ARE SAYING, THEMSELVES, RACISTS ARE ACTUALLY PEOPLE THAT JUDGE AND STEREOTYPE A COMMUNITY BY A MINORITY.-MISS SYKES
  • best things are gettin away wi every thing cos there aint inuf bobbeys for every1
  • The M1. And I'm sure that if the motorway was being built today the planners would not have built the thing anywhere near Barnsley.
  • locke park is great, i like my old home in newlodge, it has a lot of druggys there but when you live there they dont bother you, they never cause trouble in there own place its usually somewhere else

  • park getting used more and a grant for doing it up is just in the pipeline. starting to get the community spirit and involvement back and raising awareness of family values through th epark support group. businesses setting up in most of the once empty shops friendly little village
  • The people of this wonderful town are proud to be part of it, the times ive spoke to people from chesterfield who say they live in Derbyshire or sheffielders who claim they are from this planet. We are a proud and passionate people who look after our own and are not ashamed of our roots apart from that dozy cow who plays nora fucking batty, when interviewed she says shes from penistone in sheffield......twat.
  • i live in newcastle but came shopping to barnsley while staying near sheffield & the atomosphere & people were v friendly and i wudnt say no to going again - didnt come across any of bad points that a lot of visitors are saying about the place!!
  • Two minutes drive from the M1. Beautiful scenery such as Cawthorne
  • At least Barnsley isnt full of 'city' type bellends that look down their noses at everyone and pay 3 quid to drink coffee out of a cardboard cup! DAFT TWATS!! at least the people in Barnsley are real and genuine! So instead of slating Barnsley why dont you just catch aids and die of pneumonia!!CUNTS!!
  • I MARRIED A BARNSLEY LASS 36 YEARS AGO AND LANCIES AND YORKIES CAN GET ON.I LIKE VISITING THE OLDER FOLK IN THE TOWN TO DISCUSS FOOTIE AND HOSSES.MY FAVOURITE FILM IS KES AND THE BARNSLEY RESULT IS THE FIRST I LOOK FOR.I WOULDNT CHANGE MY WIFE FOR ANYBODY WELL MAYBE ABI TITMUSS...SO ITS UP THE TYKES FOR ME
  • There maybe so many more pubs in Leeds and Sheffield than in Barnsley, but what people seem to be forgetting is that Leeds and Sheffield are large, major city's, whereas Barnsley on the other hand is a small town - A big difference in size!!! Considering we are talking about the best things about Barnsley, Where does Leeds come into the equation?? The pubs have to be the best thing about Barnsley anyway, cause there's hardly anything else there!!
  • When Pharaoh's was open and I worked there. Monday nights when I was at college and the Ticket Office was actually open and Chambers had karaoke.
  • • Good Indian food - by far and away the best thing in Barnsley • Cheap housing • Cheap living • Getting a "good" job - it's so much easier in a place where most of the population has no concept of work skills let alone a decent education • Low violent crime rates (or so the promotional magazine that comes through the door from the Barnsley Police service tells us...)
  • The nice people (bart 50%) of them, the fact its so cheep on a night out, and its home!
  • mosh-park. its the park behind the cinema, across frm heaven and hell n nxt 2 regent house. so many good ppl n even better tunes
  • I think the best thing in Barnsley is the Barnsley College it opens more doors and gives you chances to take talent and brains further and you meet some cool people and get away from the streets and people who just have no intension of making anything of themselfs
  • FRIENDLY FOLK KENDRAY GETS ALOT OF STICK I KNOW ITS BEEN CRAP A LATELY BUT IT IS ON THE UP AND I SHOULD KNOW IVE LIVED HERE ALL MY LIFE.
  • Livin in barnsley is good
  • The friendly attitude of the older generation who live in Barnsley and the pride that they have in living there. This pride may be misplaced but it keeps them optimistic and prevents them from becoming bitter.
  • The controversial yet innocently used phrases such as 'cock', 'luv', 'shaftus', 'fanny anne' not forgetting of course 'Sithi'. Potts' Bakery Lucorum That cafe on Wellington Street, The Theatre (unique!!) Cheap yet long lasting flowers from Aldi
  • if you want free entertainment go upto barnsley magistrates court on tuesday afternoons..fines enforcements, its a right scream, public access to the courts and every excuse imaginable as to why the defendants dont pay fines. youll hear stories of sadness and tear jerkers..of laughter.. why not come any day of the week and sit in the public gallery to se drugged out addicts whove been shoplifting fall off their seats theyre that dazed out and witness the scores of no licence,no insurance idiots that cant string two words together explain why they drive so haphazardly. all in ee,by gum thick as sh*t northern accents. entertainment and its all free and open to the public!
  • Me, and the beer.
  • Honest, friendly people, beautiful countryside that is only ten minutes in any direction. I totally disagree with the viewpoint that we are 'thickos', 'ugly', 'slappers', 'butch' etc. I am a woman in my forties, with a responsible, well-paid and rewarding job, who has three really pretty daughters, who are intelligent, classy and who work hard to achieve. I lived outside Barnsley for 12 months in a southern town and I could not wait to come back to Barnsley, where strangers will chat and be far more welcoming. I have to say that I am extremely proud of this town and I can see progression. Far more youngsters are leaving school and going into further/higher education than ever before. I am totally disgusted and upset by the attitude I have so far seen on this site. I know tons of people who are in good jobs, who are Barnsley born and bred, ie Uni lecturers, schoolteachers, nurses, firemen, policemen, doctors and if they can be proud to live in Barnsley, why can't everyone?
  • nightlife and easy to get 2 da big citys like sheffield leeds and manchester
  • the wide range of pubs, at least 6 on every street
  • There are plenty of pointless back to work scheme's to send the pointless unemployed on in the Barnsley area, all that lead to nothing.
  • You can diss it all you want- it's been my home for 16 years, and I'm staying 'till I can get to University!
  • The best thing is that you can easily find an employment position in Barnsley without qualifications and a brain, because there is that many degrading manual jobs on offer, in fact 8 out of 10 jobs in Barnsley are manual jobs, and to get skilled for jobs like these you only need at the most a 5 day training course. Not exactly brain science.
  • the best things about barnsley is the lovely countryside and how the stone houses blend in with it. much better than a lot of this modern shit they keep building.
  • the Grassy Gap
  • The best most popular item of clothing in Barnsley is the Bright Yellow Jacket the manual workers wear, every where you go there are hundreds of bright yellow jackets, but then again there is a very lot of manual workers.
  • Wow! The best thing about Barnsley having 30 pubs and 3 nightclubs within stumbling distance. Wakefield has at least double that, and Leeds has about 200 pubs, trendy bars, and about 30 nightclubs, with at least another 50 to come. The same can be said about Nottingham. Baaarnsley people wouldn't recognise a progressive place if it hit them in the face, and the rest of the country knows that Barnsley is a third rate third world backwater with no hope, no money, no decent companies investing here and shite wages.
  • The best thing for any bloke looking for sex is that the women around this town are so easy to get into bed and have sex with, a hugh percentage of them that are out on a Friday and Saturday night are willing to have one night stands, most are gagging for it even though most have some kind of partner at home. Most women will sleep with any man that will letch over them, regardless of looks, and occupation, women will shag anything in this town, it is quite unberlievable sometimes how easy it is. Barnsley women are so easy, very few men fail, even the worst looking bloke will get a shag. I bet in todays world the average number of lovers for a Barnsley women that reaches thirty is between 20-30 different blokes. You can even meet them on a street and take them to a field for sex, unberlievable. The women of today are bigger slappers than those of 60 years ago.
  • The best thing about Barnsley is that you can leave school at 16 and without qualifications you will get employment opportunities and breaks that people with level 5 qualifications wont get.
  • The best thing about Barnsley is being able to go out with £30 in your purse and have a fantastic night out with a choice of over 30 pubs and 3 night clubs all within stumbling distance!
  • The best thing I could do for my family is leave Barnsley as soon as I can, I arrived here in October 2002 from London due to work commitments. (See my messages on the notice board for Barnsley - Alex Wright) my family suffer everyday from racist remarks, my children cry at night because the locals in Barnsley are so nasty towards them. This was the worst mistake of my life coming to a racist place like Barnsley to live.
  • The best person in Barnsley is the Believer (part 2) - this person believes Barnsley is a great place to live even when it as done nothing for their life. Forget rose tinted spectacles, the beleiver has rose tinted contact lenses attached to the retina, should you find yourself in the vicinity of a believer they will wast no time in telling you that Barnsley is great - fair enough - but does it do for their life's what such places like miami, hawaii, new zealand, australia, spain, etc would do for their lifes. The believer will say Barnsley does more and 99% of the people in Barnsley are beleivers, even though none take their summer holidays here.
  • The best thing about my life was the four years I spent away at Oxford University, up untill this period of my life I spent all my years in Barnsley thinking it was great and the people were nice. Boy was I wrong. At Oxford University I mixed with upper crust people, and I didn't visit Barnsley tyhroughout this period, but after my course I returned home to my parents in Barnsley while I searched for a job down London, and it was like returning to the slums of time, Barnsley people are so common I am now ashamed to call myself one, My new circle of friends from University are a much better bunch to mix with, so are the women. I don't mean to be nasty or a snob, but its true, I long to escape, the people around here are so unfriendly, common, racist, thicko, I went to sign on at the dole and they think I am a weirdo because I don not want a job a Tesco or B&Q.
  • The best thing I did during my life in Barnsley was fighting for my country in world war two, this was a time when people stood together against the Germans, when hundreds of people from Barnsley earned my praise. But today this town of Barnsley is a total different place, I have lived here for 83 years and I have seen a hugh change for the worse. Instead of standing together - most (not all) Barnsley people want to stab you in the back or trample on you, bad mouth you and pull you down, even the local Barnsley council wants to cut war pensions after all we did. Barnsley people of today are very unfriendly, racist and common, even sixty years ago there was racist people around, but not on todays scale. Barnsley is going down hill fast. Sixty years ago it certainly was not the worst place in Britain, but today (I have visited most places in UK) I have to agree, it is the worse place in Britain by far, and I am glad my life is coming to an end. I don't know why anybody defends Barnsley, or why any youngster wants to remain in such a place, or stick up for it, but when you look at people around this town, you start to understand why, most are as rough as the town. This country could do without towns like Barnsley, I did not risk my life to see the country I love fill up with places like Barnsley, it so the country will only get worse, Barnsley does nothing for peoples lifes or the British enconomy.
  • The best thing is the believer who has 100 per cent faith in this town 100 per cent of the time. They won't here a bad word about of criticism about Barnsley abd are never less than certain that this town is going in the right direction and that it is a great place to live. Many though will dismiss the belivers attitude as being wholly unrealistic.
  • come on think about it, do we pick a town that we have visited a couple of times and slag it off so much that people resent visiting it? NO SO KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOUR FUKING SELFS U STUCK UP CUNTS!!!! IF YOU DONT LIVE HERE WHAT FUKIN RIGHT HAVE YOU GOT TO SLAG OUR COMMUNITY OFF?
  • i think thatthe beat things about barnsley is all the down to earth people. u can go to another town or city and you always find that they are ALL stuck up pieces of sh*t that think they are better than everyone else, its them kind of people that look down their noses at us barnsley folk!yewe do talk common and (only some of us) swear a lot!But come on Barnsley wunt be Barnsley without it!
  • In responce to the person who is defending barnsley, saying the neighbouring communities are slagging this town off - WRONG - I am Barnsley born and bred I have lived all my life (29 now) I hate Barnsley it is a shithole, I am a local who is not proud of my roots, I lie about my birthplace, it is degrading to be part of this town, but I have no mponey to leave, It is true not all local born and bred people love this town I HATE THIS FUCKING SHITHOLE . If I started slagging Barnsley off I could continue to write for a FUCKING MONTH. I counld write a FUCKING BOOK.
  • The best thing about Barnsley is the amount of hatred and vitriol it inspires from the people of neighbouring communities. Please see other postings under this and the "worst things" categories if the point needs to be proved. The typical slurs that we are all uneducated, ugly, racist people show how uninformed the critics are. So we're the most racist town in the country? Not Burnley, or Lewisham, or Oldham or Bradford then with their BNP councillors? If a BNP candidate ever dared to stand in a Barnsley by-election they would be given extremely short shrift. Barnsley people are uneducated, eh? These postings mostly seem to come from a gentleman whose standard of grammar could be most flatteringly described as appalling. I attended a Barnsley state secondary school (Royston Comp.), Barnsley College to do A-levels and from there went on to complete my education at Cambridge University. But never mind, it appears there are those out there who deem us all uneducated, probably posted by another one suffering from delusions of intellectual superiority after obtaining a "degree" from Sheffield Hallam, Huddersfield or another of the surrounding Polytechnics which laughingly describe themselves as "Universities". Barnsley has enormous civic pride and sense of community which many people fail to understand. But this pride is certainly not insular - whenever I have been out in town with work or University friends and colleagues they have been amazed how friendly the atmosphere of the town on a Friday or Saturday night. Compare and contrast this with Leeds, for example, where it seems like a fight on the steps of "Majestyk" is obligatory at 2am each morning. Barnsley and proud.
  • The best future anybody around this place as got unless you creep around the boss or your face fits, is that you will have a working career of twenty years working in positions that command salaries of £10'000pa, most people around this dump would settle for this. Or you will be in a circle of dole, scheme, dole, scheme, were the scheme you go on are no benefit to anybody.
  • People thing they have got great high flying jobs if they work as a cook, cleaner, bin man, production line worker, shop assistant, stores operative, forklift truck driver, shelf stacker, car park cleaner, call centre operative, bus driver, school dinner lady, team leader. THESE JOBS GAIN RESPECT, you become one of the locals if you do a job like these and a wierdo if you want a better job.
  • BARNSLEY LIFE - when the people of Baaaaarrrrnsley show loyality and defend this town against all bad comments, what suitable reason do they come up with to legislate for this arttitude, what does this town do for their life's what it does not do for me, what are the highlights of living in such a fucking dump as this town.
  • The best thing about Barnsley are the people, i was born and raised here and to be honest I could nt wait to get away! After just 1 term away at University I was reminded of all the good things about Barnsley. Now i actually look forward to visiting......Maybe thats because i know i will never have to live here again!!!
  • if you don't like change then come to Barnsley cos' nothing EVER changes here!
  • The best advice ever given to me, was from a old barnsley man, who had lived hear all his life, he told me the way to pull a barnsley womman is to follow the following points, have a shaven head, be as white as possible, have more than one tatoo, act hard, act like a ape man, build up a reputation as a thug, treat women like dirt, work in a warehouse, so no ambition, love this town, get drunk at least seven times per week, grope over pissed up girls in the night clubs.
  • Barnsley has the culture and elegance of Paris, the chic of Barcelona, the affluence of Monte Carlo, the attractions of Orlando, the education of Oxbridge, the career opportunities of New York, the shopping of London, the fashion boutiques of Milan and the nightlife of Las Vegas. Wellington Street is just like Orlando’s International Drive. The women all look like Shania Twain, Britney Spears, Andrea Corr and Jennifer Lopez, while the men resemble Antonio Banderas and Tom Cruise. The population lives in large detached houses complete with their own swimming pools, drive around in Rollers, Bentleys, Ferraris and Mercedes, and pick oranges from their acres of well-maintained and manicured gardens, whilst Kendray, Lundwood and Athersley are amongst the world’s most desirable addresses. Oakwell is just like the Nou Camp stadium, and inspired by signings like Beckham, Zidane, Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy and Rio Ferdinand, Barnsley FC has gone on to win the coveted Grand Slam of the Worthington and FA Cups, the Premiership title and European Champions Cup after outclassing Real Madrid in the all-conquering 2002-3 season, showing a dominance which left Steve Waugh and his Aussies as green as their felt caps. Pity this idyll was spoiled by the alarm clock ringing and millstone-around-the-neck reality set in, just as the Barnsley FC squad were about to ride around, displaying this season’s trophy hoard from on board their open top Tracky bus.
  • The best thing about Barnsley is that once I leave this shithole of a town, I will never again mix with such racist wankers, I am from india and my life around this town is made hell, once I save enough money up I shall leave. Barnsley people are the least uncultured bunch of people that I have ever known and I have lived in 6 different places throughout the Uk, and this is a terrible place, the people around here are not friendly towards outsiders.
  • The supporters of Barnsley have a good sense of hummour, I recently walked around the town wearing a Juventus Shirt, every person that passed me that had somekind of Barnsley FC Clothing on, smirked and laughed, next time I will wear a Barnsley FC shirt, with printed on the back, Hay Hay we are the muppets, I will fit in amoungst the locals then. I love Barnsley FC.
  • The best thing to me about Barnsley is that it as got some kind and genuine peaple around and not all of Barnsley population is thick, dum, faule and abuseive towards peaple. So anyone that as got something to say about Barnsley before you say anything just think to yourself theres always someone thicker then us,you never now it could be your town thats got the fucking thick bastards around you.
  • The best thing is how much Barnsley people (myself included) are loyal to each other and the town we live in. This town gives us no employment opportunities no good climate, no good looking women, nothing to do other than to drink, nothing to look forward to and nothing to look back on, no great football team that wins european trophies, yet we (myself included) love it, and defend it to the grave, I will nver hear a bad word said against it, it might be a shithole but it is my shithole. Maybe us Barnsley people do settle for rubbish lifes, but what option do we have living around Barnsley, stop pulling us down, instead be gratefull you dont live in such a place as this town. I will always love this town.
  • BARNSLEY AND ITS PEOPLE ARE ACE !! ALWAYS FRIENDLY AND DO NOT START FIGHTS ALL OVER TARN LIKE THE FOREIGNERS SEEM TO THINK!. THE FOREIGNERS SHOULD TRY HAVING A NIGHT IN TARN WITHOUT BEING BIASED, IT WILL PROBABLY BE THE BEST NIGHT THEY WILL EVER HAVE. ANYWAY, IF THEY ARE SO INTENT ON SLAGGING THE PLACE AND THE PEOPLE OFF WHY DON'T THEY JUST PISS OFF AND STAY AWAY.
  • You do not have to spend thousands of pounds to go on holiday to Africa to see any chimps or wildlife, just spend an afternoon walking around this town, or just visit one of the local factories, you will see a variety of wildlife.
  • Most women in Barnsley by the time they are 30 years old are like second hand dart boards - so its cheaper than going to the massage parlour.
  • Mens looks in Barnsley don't matter - even if you look like the back end of a double decker bus - you will fit in - and the women around here will love you. A bit of advice is to try to look as rough as possible.
  • Is the number of roads that are avaliable to get / escape from this shithole.
  • Bramall Lane isn't far away for Barnsley dingles to watch the Blades and see some decent football. At least you can watch us play the likes of Nottingham Forest, Leicester, Wolves etc. Who are Barnsley playing? Northampton, Cheltenham, Mansfield eh? Looking forward to playing Darlington in the near future? As for the supporter who says BFC Division 1 Champs 2003-4, get off the magic mushrooms and smell the coffee beans. You won't get promoted this season or in any season. Indeed, you'll be lucky to avoid relegation again.
  • the best thing has to be how many pubs n bars we have. along wi that id say barnsley football club, div 1 champs 2003/2004
  • There might not be much good to say about Arriva Trains Northern at the moment, but at least you can get to Leeds, Sheffield, Huddersfield and Lincoln, and enjoy a day away from Barnsley. The problem is, you have to come back. Hopefully, that will be solved soon, and I can see and get to know some decent attractive women, go to decent pubs, and see a 10,000% improvement in my social life, and with any luck, I might get to spend 40 years away from Barnsley.
  • i am from barnsley so obviously everything includin barnsley fc, booze, our accent, the people, we r jus so gud.
  • The M1 Junctions 36, 37 and 38 aren't far away.
  • the best things about tarn is that all the people are so funny, they are always up for a laugh and will do anything for a joke!! the other best thing about tarn (well more in hoyland common and elsecar) is the sanchez and pizza house!
  • Barnsley is a good place with good people, yeah we have more tossers than most other places but most of em are a good laugh, it has its dodgy parts but then when was south yorkshire known for being the best part of england? there's no need to go round slagging the place off like most of you do, the nightlife is good to say its a small local town an i really enjoy it so if u dont like it then just go sod off!
  • aLL THE DOWN TO EARTH BARNSLEY PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE....
  • The Best thing is the fact that when you're drunk you can go up to anyone and have a conversation with them like youve known them all your life.
  • Drunk trendies
  • The road system is good, meaning you can easily get away. Maybe to somewhere people don't think that 'culture' is something you can get in a yoghurt.
  • Gotta be the students.
  • LEAVING!!!
  • in my opinion (a rotherham citizen - so i am not biased) the men of barnsley are by and far the best looking men of any town i have ever been to!!! i am also gay and so i have impecable taste. BARNSLEY MEN, BE PROUD, you are lovely!!!!!!
  • Value for money! The market.
  • (most of) the people who live there, the true tarn lads n' lasses are some of the friendliest, swearingist and drinkalotist darn to earth people tha'll find ont' planet. Some r' first class pricks mind.
  • Cheep drinks, easy slappers, regular fights to watch or join in with,
  • Decent ale.
  • The people are for the most part friendly and it's quite easy to strike up a conversation with a total stranger.
  • football club
  • The people will look after you if you treat them as neighbours and beat the crap out of you if you cross 'em. (This has to do with the social influences of the predominant industries - sadly now nearly gone - that created close knit team work etc etc etc...)
  • The massive plant pots that you can get in when you are drunk. And knowing absolutely everyone that lives there and the old people who go eveywhere in their slippers
  • Tarn Centre - cracking night out- , Oakwell, dead whale exhibitions, Pennines, Cawthorne Park.
  • i am of course the best thing about Barnsley! I'm a true barnsley lass (a little slapper as we are most often called) but one thing i dont agree with is people saying that us Barnsley lasses are ugly cos we're not (well maybe a few of us are) but theres just as many "nice birds" as u of the male species put itas there are in any other town n city in england! oh yeah and it is true we do go 4 the bad mouthed foul behaved lads, and its true most of us have had sex by the time we're 14! but that just adds to the fun of living in barnsley! xxx
  • Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord' beer. I live in Amersham now (Southern poof land) and I can't get a decent pint anywhere. The Manx was the place for us long-hairs. Orb.
  • Life and the nightlife. Oh, and the football, usually. The national record low for out migration from a British Town, it can't be that bad!!! Euan.
  • the best thing about Barnsley is the same as the worst thing. It's the people, the majority of people in Barnsley are a friendly aimiable crowd to people from both in and out of town. However there are some people who really let the town down, the majority of their bad attitude is directed thankfully not at visitors but at people they know, who they see quite a lot of and in my experience the attitude always derives from jealousy. Rather than let these few underachievers give Barnsley a bad name please pity them and realise they are a minority in Barnsley.
  • Barnsley is one of the best plces to meet loads of different and "interesting" people. Be it people who you just have to snigger about, or the most gorgeous of men to walk this planet. A night out around Barnsley is likely to be one of the most entertaining anyone will have. All this, and a good chance of a snog on a girly night out! What more could anyone ask???
  • Reasonably cheap to live here.
  • Barnsley has finally gained a decent body-piercing studio on Wellington Street.
  • The Amount Of Pubs (about 20-30) within the town centre and Quite a few stay open til 12am or 4am
  • the best thing about TARN,is this site and the rhetoric it genarates compaired to other sites it really is outstanding, the intrest in our little town fill,s me with pride. as for our simple but harmless "wakey" friend, understandably he joins in our banter for the "wakey" site, bestows apon us the razor witt of a blunt nail and the correspondence of the brian dead,so keep the comments coming for this alone proves our TARN,S a bit special to stir such passionate and evocative emotion,s in those poor unfortunates not to be born here. so sad but never mind....BUD*******
  • Metrodome Leisure Centre Good water slides, wave machine etc. Huge indoor bowling green (a bit OTT!) Climbing wall, gym, beauty salon, courts etc etc etc
  • Barnsley FC.
  • VERY low cost of living!
