• Well, there's good old Charlie Williams (Ayup Flower! as a catchphrase) - The only bloke who said "Ah dunt have to have a shower when av dun darnt pit... But that's as mebbe cos am black!" - worked with my grandad and is a true gent... Also - Michael Parkinson (Worsbrough) was from here..... and though we don't admit it, William Hague (TORY MP/PM) used to own a boozer in Wentworth.... the legendary Brian Glover (Kes, Alien 3, milk adverts, Allinson wholemeal bread ad) started life as a boxer before being talent scouted.... I think we can pass on the "Chuckle Brothers" who hail from Wombwell - their shop is still there (luckily someone else owns it else I'd belt them one)

• Mad Max was film using the local men from Barnsley, they were chosen because they did not require any acting lessons in order to act so rough and commen. In fact most of them still act as if they are still filming the Mad Max film, but this is just the way they are. Take them as you find them.

• There are plenty of the cast from the TV series Alien Nation walking around the town most days with fail, these people dont sign autographs they just grin and grunt.

• Sadly you get no Van Baston's, maradonna's, pele's, cantona's, strutting their stuff around the shops, after a days training at Barnsley FC. Instead you pass players you don't recognise.
• There are a few as been footballers, who when they were young, they were going to be worldbeaters and play for England in the world cup, their mams and dads always jumped up and down telling us how great they are and what the future olds. Well they ended up playing for a shitty non league team, earning less than a graduate job, or working in factories and playing for the local pub sides. Well it just states OVERATED BASTARDS, most of these are found around the Darfield, Low Valley, Wombwell area of the Barnsley District.

• The most famous resident must be Butch Dingle, every where you go you will also see Butch Dingle look alikes, he has had the most influence on this town than any other person in history.
