  • Well not too far away is a non league football team called Frickley Athlectic, if you want to watch a football team, these are better value for money than paying £16 to watch Barnsley. Alternatively you could watch the local Wombwell FC side, which is free to watch. And the quaility of football is not that bad. At least when the match is crap you have wasted nothing, certainly not £16 of your hard earned money.
  • Oakwell... its or8 but team can't play football!!!
  • The Oakwell donkey sanctuary, where Barnsley (It's just like watching Brazil) FC have just lost against the 'mighty' Northampton Town, to top off a 'fantastic' Christmas and New Year period, during which they've lost against Mansfield, Notts County and now Northampton. If it's like watching Brazil, then why have they lost against these three mighty teams? Could you imagine Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Co being on the losing side against Northampton in the Maracana stadium? It wont be long before they're building a brand new Safeway on the site of Oakwell, and the fans can then turn up at Bramall Lane, or stick to watching the local pub side. It's probably more entertaining than being at Oakwell, and £20 cheaper.
  • My name is Marcus and I am from Brazil, I am visiting the UK on a Christmas Holiday. I am a football fan, and have been for thirty years. I recently visited Oakwell for the 2nd Division League game between Barnsley 0 v 1 Mansfield on 21st December 2002. The people around this town had been telling me how good Barnsley FC are, and that I would get value for money. Also they showed me pictures of Barnsley FC supporters with banners - stating "its just like watching Brazil" - So off I went to the game. Well I have never been so insulted in my life. How dare Barnsley FC fans insult the Brazilian nation with a statement its just like watching Brazil. Barnsley FC are rubbish, I thought this would have been a club with a large number of trophies throughout their history - but they have won only one major trophy in 1912. Yet they come out with a statement like this. Barnsley FC fans must be mad to spend pounds on a regular basis to watch such rubbish. Its more like watching Burma (sorry Burma). I shall never return to the town Barnsley again, the football team fans have no right to come out with such statements. I found the town very common and the people very unfriendly.
  • I am a crewe supporter and I took my young son to the recent 2nd division football match between crewe 2 - 0 Barnsley in december 2002, and never before have I met such common and unfriendly people as them from Barnsley. I dread to think what the town of Barnsley is like - i shall never visit it.
  • We dont have any decent football team to watch, only a lower division team, you won't see any European games in this town, or any cup finals, it took Barnsley 100 years to get promoted to the top division and less than 1 year to go straight back down, that is rubbish.
  • You can watch Barnsley FC, but instead of paying £16-£20 watching a pub side why not just watch your local pub team on a sunday morning, I use to be a season ticket holder for Barnsley but not any more, I see the same standard of football watching the local pub teams.
