Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
  • The towns top mobile dj and vocalist Denisd Horan available for all functions, email denis@denishoran.co.uk
  • the cinema room
  • The Nines, Scorpio, The boat (Princess Calandia) me thinks
  • Coming back to barrow for night out end of April 07 - any good ideas where to go for a good night? Ages 25+
  • Barrow had some class dance events in its hay day, The ones like euthoria in the town hall, The place were you usually stuck to the floor but a banging night on a saturday! who could forget all sorts good night but had to be wasted b 4 going in, and the top heads club josephines bang bang! You could nt beat barrow in the early nineties for banging dance music/ rave and friendly people who could sort you out with party pills!
  • Martinis rules...it maybe full of chavs it may maybe full of fights but where isnt nowadays? the music in there is beltin ts a good nite out. maximes, frequency nites they r buzin. Theres not many clubs u can go in sober and i did it and had a brill nite. The DJ Zun!e, Ward:e & Rob M, MC's rhyma P Sparky, yammy B n Evey and more they all in there bangin out some beltin lyrics beltin tunes so dont knock it till ya try it!!
  • The Nines! Weve been waiting fro the re-opening of the 99 and it's here and as gorgeous as it's little brother Bar5! There's also a rumour Fridays are about to become Pop, Indie and Dirty Soul nights!!
  • Blue Lagoon - The Boat WOW! went to see Gary Lucy and the place is amazing been to clubs all over uk and the sound and light is terrific, you lucky people in Barrow, visited few other bars, very dated, smelly on Cornwallis Street, found a nice place called Bar Five. Moving into area soon looking forward to improved venues to visit.
  • cornwallis street looks dead now compared to the boat thats doing well the music is good but the town is still poor when it comes to nihtlife!
  • We need an alternative to Cornwallis street with its expensive beer and disreputable clubs.
  • I have just found this website and i must say its very informative, but i felt i must make some things clear as regards to the nightlife in Barrow. BARS/FUNCLUBS NEW WINE BAR - Bar 5 - (no dj)This place has recently opened underneath the old 99 club, it is very well presentabe and offers a relaxing venue to meet with friends, drinks are expensive but the seats are great. Other wine bar - Palos(dj on occasionally)(or watever its called) - Very small and dosent offer much. Bars Yates - ok to meet mates - Mediocre dj chambers - as above Railway - no music/ no dj, ok to watch footy but really a place for over 30s. cairo - another stop off point Funclubs / Nightclubs The Cry - Closed down Circus Circus - The best atmosphere, music varies from r&b (the only place that plays r&b) to funky house, (prob best dj in the town as i have read on here a few times) Kavannas - occasional bands / djs - not a bad place if your pissed. THE BOAT - Blue lagoon - A really great place, very nice inside and out, does get busy, you can get lost inside if you have never been before, music taste isnt for me but its still good, i do know they have had about 15 diffrent djs in the past 12 month because none of them have been any good. Martinis - Used to be great back in the day, havent been in there sor a good 12 months, but as stated on here, its not everyones cup of tea (unless you like a couple of tablets in your tea instead of sugar), renound for young kids and drugs, as far as the djs go, never heard of them. So there you go, theres something for everyone, a honest opinion of the main bars and clubs in the good old fighting town of BARROW IN FURNESS.#
  • MARTINIS, it is the place to be, people say that its a dive and full of young people well in actual fact it dus pull in a young crowd because of its type of music, its the only club around barrow that plays this sort of music BOUNCY HOUSE, WIGAN PIER, HARDCORE, if your not into that sort of music then dont dis it, like a similar quote on here, if ur into you brian adams and your meatloaf thats up to you but u seriously dont no wot your missing out on, theres nothing better than having a good bounce around with all ya mates!! Martinis myt not have the best decor in the world but its one of the best clubs in and around barrow!! As for the DJs & MCs... well u guys make the nyt, The DJ Zun!e, Ward:e & Rob M, MC's rhyma P Sparky, n yammy B! The boat is just a FAD its new and people wanna try new things personally i find its boring does'nt really seem busy as its far too big to fill in a place like barrow the DJs are crap play songs off a CD all nyt usually the latest NOW cd thats out, where as down at martinis u have real DJs who use decks wjho mix and scartch songs and are appreciated sooooo much for wot they do, i mean c'mon u geezers from the boat have any of use got a record lable or are signed by a record company had a record released??? nah dint fink so!! GO DJ ZUN!E U ROCK THE PARTY! any way less of that if ya up for a gud nyt with a gud crowd and like ya dance music then martinis is definatly the place to be!!!
  • Hi guys - THANK YOU to all the people who came down for the K-Klass and Flip & Fill nights, hosted by myself, on the BLUE LAGOON, Easter Week! The events were a tremendous success - thanks to you lot! We are planning other big-named acts for the club too!!! Also, I am starting a dance night EVERY SUNDAY, commencing Sunday 23 April 2006. Admission will only be aroundf £2-£3. Come and say hi! It's great to be back! Best wishes DJ Mat Stevens Original Blue Lagoon resident DJ (Nov - Jan) (now back...watch this space :-)
  • cornwallis st is finally dying thanks to mr lucas .... the cry is shut and about time too the place was full of cheap people and old bouncers who should have retired years ago . scorpio has gone too which is no sad loss and matinis is still pumping out the tunes to under 16's the only place to go is THE BLUE LAGOON (the boat) Fantastic place reasonable price and is something diffrent for us barrovians only thing is not to arrive to early cause i doesnt get busy till later to best go for a few in a couple of bars such as CHAMBERS or the EMPIRE ............. REMEMBER STAY WELL CLEAR OF CORWALLIS ST ... OR WHATS LEFT OF IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Am I dreamin or was there a place called 'Fatties where DJs used to do their stuff? That was always good. Must've been trollied if it's that blurry though.
  • ""has to be a place not to goto martinis its got joke line up of djs zun!E ward!E music is pure noise dont play requests dont use a mic call themselves djs line up of mcs is a mega joke bunch of kids with mics an think they are it.been no good since shokk left (STAY AWAY)"" Obviously this comment was made by sumone who is related to shokk sumhow,no names mentioned but i have my suspiciouns. If martinis nghtclub was such a dive as ur making it out to be then why r we officially the busiest club on cornwallis street now???fair enough the boat has had a major impact on the barrow nightlife scene epecially on cornwallis street but Martinis is still very busy on a weekend.so whoever it is who posted what i quoted at the start of this post then grow up eh.If shokk was so successful then how come they got the kick from there? The comment about zun!E & ward!E, calling them a joke, haha, the only joke is that comment. You ask anyone in barrow o name the most heard of djs and i bet out of a top 5 zunie & wardie r mentioned.Fair enough, martinis is a pure dance club, totally different from the other clubs on the strip,if u go to wigan pier, how many times do u hear the pier residents talking on the mic,,,i think none.dance music isnt made to be talked over unless it an MC doin his rhymes,ot like letting everyone know what the last track played was, im sure everyone in tinis would buzz off knowing wot the last track was everytime a new one is mixed in! anyways, if ur aged between 18 - 28 & ur into dance music then get yaself to martinis,,ill be honest the dress code is very laid back, ya can wear wot u want but if ur up for a good sesh and u know wot to expect then come on down!!!
  • its getting a bit heated on here (i personnaly have no idea whats happening at martinins because im not 14 and take drugs) But i can let every1 know that the CRY on cornwallis st has closed down :( The strip is losing its appeal, all we can hope for is that circus circus stays open as its the only place worth going to now, as for all the djs in the town, never heared of any of them except dj barney, and thats only because hes been around for years and is probably the most popular dj in the town,
  • OHH we LOVE martinis on a saturday night it kicks some serious ass in my opinion, especialy when G4Z (live n kickin MC) is on! Paul Platt is pretty nifty and all. little GEEK Kenny on the other hand aint all he thinks he is but we try to humor him as he aint on a lot, just to fill in the gapps. HOPE TO SEE U ALL THERE SOME TIME GUYS!!!!!! quote who ever wrote this is full of shit dj kenny knows more about music than any dj in the town and the person who wrote that as i found out was a jealous dj coz he aint workin haha get a life sado
  • has to be a place not to goto martinis its got joke line up of djs zun!E ward!E music is pure noise dont play requests dont use a mic call themselves djs line up of mcs is a mega joke bunch of kids with mics an think they are it.been no good since shokk left (STAY AWAY)
  • blue lagoon brill club pants dj called matt stevens what a puff loves himself dj salty cool though get some big djs in rick
  • Cotnwallis st, especially circus circus im 19 and love it, lots of diffrent types of drinks (slushes, milk cocktails etc) Best music and the best dj in barrow !! DJ Barnie...... :)
  • Blue Lagoon - great club but terrible DJ !
  • The Canteen on Michaelson road are becomming a sweet venue with the likes of AIM and Lethal Bizzle, dragging Barrow into the 21st Century
  • Phew alot has changed in the pasy year, theres a new club opened, on a boat ! its a excellent venue and attracts people fom all over the n west, the only thing that spoils it is the trouble, there was quite a few fights when i was in there but thats nothing new in barrow, also the dj who was playing didnt have a clue about the music, and u couldnt understand a word he was saying,every1 was complaining about him and taking the piss out of the way he looked, but who cares at 3am in the morning and having drunk 10 bottles of wkd, cornwallis st is still up and running although it does get quiet at around 1 am when everyone goes to the boat, so its best to stay at circus circus until then, at least there the drinks are cheap, its a great atmosphere, full of girls and the best music and the best looking dj you will ever see. Whatever ytou are after theres always a pub / club for you in barrow so why not come and see us ! u cant miss me ive had a boob job :) X sarah X
  • Places to go on the strip. Normally I start off at Yates' unless I've finished work earlier, then go to Circus Circus, it's full of teenie boppers and makes me feel old, but it's a good warm up, next Kavannas, then O'sullis for a change of music, might pop into Cry for a bit, but the finale of the night is the Blue Lagoon (the boat) what a stroke of genius!!! you pay a bit more to get in than the other clubs, but believe me it's worth it!!! It's huge!!! Male dancers for us girls, they're from away and can actually dance!!! they've also got some local lasses that do nothing but shake they're ass, can't dance to save their lives but the attraction is they wear next to nothing!!! the boats open till 6 now, and it's that good that you probably will stay till six. Welldone Ricky!!! However, MARTINIS don't even get me started on that place, FULL OF CHAVS!!! an absolute drug den, i wouldn't set foot in that place if you paid me. It could be sold and done up time and time again, but it will never get rid of that reputation!!!

  • well there is only cornwallis street if you want to go clubbing, but i like the duke of Edinburgh for gigs because its suitable for all ages. i go there, but so does my mum.
  • ricky lucas new venture a piece of scrap stuck in the dock.i thought we where regenerating the area.with any luck he will do what all good captains do and go down with his boat.
  • MARTINIS is the place to be! drop a gary and rave your tits off to these quality tunes! show apprechiation 4 the DJ
  • kavannas
  • circus circus, kavanas, an the cry r great! avoid martinis if u dont want a fight !
  • There are no good clubs anymore since they knocked down the Place,Cornwallis St is same old faces in the same old places at the same times week in week out.
  • HONESTLY THERE IS NOWHERE THAT DOESNT PLAY 1) BON JOVI-LIVIN ON A PRAYER 2) BRIAN ADAMS-SUMMER OF 69 3) MEATLOAF-PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD. AND THE SAD THING IS....EVERYONE LOVES IT COS THEY DONT KNOW ANY DIFFERENT
  • martini's club at the end of cornwallis street has closed and so far there are no plans to re-open it again.
  • avoid them all stu walker is a woman beater!!!!!
  • where has martinis gone! i know lots didnt like it but myself and all friends havent bothered going out more than twice since it shut! im 19 so scorpios no good and everywhere else is crap! bring martinis bak!
  • cornwallis st. has a great selection of clubs but dont stare at people, you might get in a fight, lots of pubs, some more inbred than others.
  • the clubs are full of cretins(the lads)for some reason the just want to fight or behave obnoxius, most have not been past abbey road and need to see how people behave.
  • eddysons was good 'cos i used to spin the discs
  • Martinis closed.99 closed May 2004
  • Big shout going out to the mucky feet tribe. one of the very few group of real headz that know what quality wax is all about. aslo big shouts going out to andy, gripper & the original funkmaster moon for laying the foundations in the early days. watch out for more m.f.t. dates coming up for the 04'. thanks to all those who have supported the cause over the years, you know who you are... dont forget if ya snooze ya looze.
  • first start at paulio's, yates, circus, kavs, sullies thn the cry. there all good most of the time.n washy the dj is fit:)mmmm
  • Martini's and its revolving dance floor, oh those were the days!
  • There isn't much int he way of serious(good clubs) in Barrow but on the music front, we have THE biggest hip hop act in the Uk at the moment, Mr Scruff not far behind in the call of Mr Andrew Turner aka Aim,leading the front of uk hip hop.On another note there seems to be a trend of grrwwwwwwaaaaarrrrr music in Barrow at the mo, little rockers with their slipknot tees on
  • Got to go to the cry its the best by far. Two top djs in dave casson and morgan plat every thing dave casson more dance and morgan more funky but all the same still the best nite in barrow
  • Dance Clubs?- well the closest ur gunna get is martinis! soon to be extended and refurbished!(believe me it needs it!)
  • CoRnWaLlIs st rokz.....part from da pigz shuv ya in tha cellz 4 nottin much gud nite 4 under 18z is bufferz on a wed nite..once a month..v fit bounca ther.....nectaaaa ;)n cry has itz upsidez 2
  • every saturday night round barrow goes as follows; pgs wine bar first, then yates, then circus, then kavanas, finish the night in the cry - if completely desparate join the pillheads in martinis. for a change, possibe places to go include The infamous Barrow Arms or the gay and lesbian night at the Lounge.
  • Kavanas is great
  • All cornwallis st is great.. there is monkeys on the doors that are huge. It is a great night out though.
  • The Cry, what a laugh. Not.
  • The Cry, is that even classed as a 'club'? It's more like a disco for decade old children to dance and hang around several older people who have continued to cling to childhood but still wear nothing above. "Like, lets go get your 10 year old friend and, like, party!" Not.
  • the clubs are all owned by 'booze baron' rick lucas. Corwallis Street (which is STILL called the Gaza Strip by everybody, despite what the guy from PubWatch wrote earlier) is Lucas Vegas - tacky, cheap tawdry, naff music, bars with DJ's asking of you want to party every 27 seconds over the record, fighting with teens in Mark One / JJB gear thinking they is 'da man' while threatening you in fake man-ches-tor accents, (suprising as the furthest they have been is Walney) - man, its that bad.
  • Scorpio's deffo, best club in barrow, I no thats not sayin much but the rest of em are even worse!
  • All ov cornwallis st has decent clubs,as im only 14 i can only go 2 tha cry on a thurs bt im workin on a full nights clubbin, lol
  • Martini's is the one the rest are rubbish.Lasers huge crowd top dj's you name it there there
  • i'm from liverpool came to barrow on a night. get to be the best night of my life. finish of the night in the cry. the dj think his name was dave, was topps play all kind's of music loved it. thank you the cry i'll be back xx
  • they should all be blown away, full of snotty teens looking to get their filthy way with the girls in short sleeved tops, and even shorter skirts.
  • the best nite out in barrow got to be the cry. with dj's dave casson and mrogan play all sort's of music for young and old. i've seen dave in pg's wine bar to and the teen disco at the cry for the kids
  • There Aren't any
  • dont bother it is shite!either go to buffers in ulverston or a late night bar!buffers has a novelty value!cracking night out!!
  • finishing the night in the cry is totally ace, kavannas is cool too, but if you really want a shag just head to martinis it's where all the slappers go!
  • the 9s for the experienced crowd, anywhere on Cornwallis St (Gaza Strip) for the nubile young thangs
  • cry, circus, kavanna's, Buffers (ulveston)
  • the cry is by far the most happening spot in town with dj morgan (phwoar!!!!) and dj dave c showin' us all wot they got. however its gotten so gud that saturday nights can be pritty dam pact so we preffer the upstairs coz its not so full!!!!....sal xxx
  • martinis night club. (bottom corner of cornwallis street.)
  • The worst club in the world!!!
  • Circus Circus, The Cry, Kavannas, Lucy's O'sullivans, Rick o' Sheas, Martinis, Scorpio
  • martinis!! used to b ful of youngsters but gettin better now!! lucys as well-basement bar with gr8 dance music!
  • Just to make a point regarding DJ morgan The only reason that dj morgan worked in circus recently is because the resident who we all know has been doin his bit for the local boys and girls in ibiza and so needed DJs to fill in. However dj Shane who also played deserves some respect and you can now see him at the wheel barrow pub which is devoting its nights to dance music starting in august
  • the cry is the best spot in town with dj morgan playing his stuff once a weekend!! circus has now asked him to work for them, and he's done two nights!! woo hoo!! go morgan
  • SCORPIO NIGNTCLUB HAS JUST OPENED FORMALLY ECLIPSE FOR OVER 21'S AT MOMENT OPEN THUR FRI SAT. Joy has shut down for good getting turned into a car park.Martinis is gettin refurbished and opening a new floor this summer 2002
  • Stotts has now re-opened and re-named as SCORPIO. Good mix of music but more importantly cheap drink offers.
  • gotta b da cry/curcus
  • Right, well.. being 15, i'm not gunna complain (haha) however most of the clubs on Cornwallis St are full of teenies, everywhere you turn. It wouldn't be bad if they went out to have fun, but they go out to get laid or fight!
  • Looking at Cornwallis street, I would be surprised if there was actually ANY action here, or if you would actually want to venture out into this absolute HOLE!!!!
  • the new 99 clubian wilson drinks in the golden ball
  • Your information on Cornwallis street seems somewhat out dated. It is no longer to be reffered to as the GAZA STRIP by order of Cumbria Constabulary. A lot of excellent work has been done to improve the night time economy through the Bar Watch scheme. For your information violence in the south of Cumbria has been reduced by over 14% unlike the rest of the county which is rising. Please ammend your dated web site
  • We have many clubs on cornwallis street but the best is kavannas or o sullivans.
  • everything on cornwallis st - martinis is good. the cry for under 18s on a thursday.
  • O'Sullivans on a Friday night plays music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Excellent night but can get very hot and sticky! Also a bit monotonous after a few visits as they only seem to have a set play-list of the same old songs.
  • Cornwallis street - Locals call it the gaza strip (thats a huge clue!) It's always on T.V for the violence, the only people who go down there are 14 years olds (don't ask how they manage to get in) You're better off going to some of the great pubs ;)
  • this is a new night club just opened called JOY and its for all ages on thursday night they do 14-17 years old and friday soul nights and saturday top dj's ive been 3 weeks in row cause its that good TRY IT.
  • Been a lot of changes. Upto date as of may 2000 The Place will not be opening up as another spot as mentioned in the knowhere guide. It was knocked down and a stupid town square built. The building was originally the old public Hall. Eclipse has now closed down
  • martinis will soon have a new capacity of 1500 as a new extension is opening in june 2000 barrow also has a knew yates winelodge
  • Stotts, Circus, Kavanas, Martinis
  • Eclipse (hiphop,tecno,funk)
Eclipse has now closed down as people (mainly teeny's) had lost interest in the club. The Place is to become Bubbles as that has also closed down. Another night club called The Cry has become the most popular of all the clubs with Martinis as a close second.
  • Martinis (popular dance - Fridays and Saturdays)
  • Best Club used to be 42nd Street but it changed to The Place and has since ceased to be. I believe it is going to be taken over and will be re opening A.S.A.P.
  • Eclipse has become Stotts, the place is not reopening, and another popular club is Circus Circus
