The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
  • dont ever come here its full of smack heads and idiots who are all gobshites
  • Why does everyone expect the public, i.e. the council to provide just about everything to entertain children As per comments (The Council. I'm sorry but they really need to pull their finger out. If there's a rise in crime in Barrow it's because the lack of choices for kids is a very sad state of affairs. There needs to be a fresh influx of ideas to regenerate business, tourism etc in area and people who are going to act on the ideas. (Maybe a political category or a discussion forum) )

  • chances of getting your head kicked in!
  • Weather. Barrow isn't sunshine and daisies, it's more like storms and cold. Here's a guide to living in Barrow. Don't.
  • Kill the pigeons!!!
  • Walney it just isn't worth all the hassle
  • Leave walney ppl alone !!!!!!
  • Longway, Broadway, Westway should be blown up. The houses are sooo unattractive!
  • Superbowl at Hollywood Park is noisy and either full of kids playing bandits or groups of lads trying to play bowling while full of beer, not what I would call a family night out!!!
  • The Bon-Bon, next to the old cinema on Abbey Road. Great place..always used to get sweets there before going to the cinema. Everybody knows it!
  • be careful who you talk about especially if telling porkys it's bound to get back to the person in question..everybody knows everybody or their brother
  • dont ever go to barrow! ive been (once) and its obvious from the large foreheads and the fact that they all look the same that interbreeding is rife !
  • 1.The often repeated fact that Barrow Town Hall faces the sea is, in fact, a myth. The building was designed by a Belfast architect, W.H. Lynn, in a competition. The late Jack Kellett was an expert on James Ramsden (Barrow's first mayor, and arguably the most influential person in it's history), and when researching a book on the great man (it's available in Barrow library, and there may still be copies in local bookshops), he found the assessment of the original plans which clearly refers to Duke Street as the main entrance. 2. The town has suffered unfairly at the hands of the media over the years. Some of the worst detractors are, unfortunately, Barrovians themselves. However, things are changing. There are now some long overdue shopping and leisure facilities (bowling alley, health club, a variety of stores, a new multiplex cinema etc.), the variety and scope of employment is increasing and diversifying, and it has some educational resources and facilities that are recognised as of national importance. It's a great place to live - ask the Canadian Navy.
  • Hollywood Park - Bowling Alley, Fitness Centre - Opening Jan/Feb 1999
  • It's a little easier to get to now. A bypass has been built around the town of Dalton In Furness, and it comes out by Ulverston.
  • Barrow has a nature reserve at an area called Roan Head, that is a breeding ground for a rare breed of toads called Natterjacks. Walney also has two nature reserves, and the one at the North end of the island is definately a breeding place for the toads, as well as having some rare'ish flowers. The reserve at the south end of the island is more of a bird sanctuary for seagulls though!
  • Barrow has so many expats now living in the USA and Canada, that there is an annual Jamboree held on the first weekend of July in London Ontario. Anyone from Barrow, with ancestors from Barrow, friends from Barrow, or with any connection with Barrow at all is invited to attend. Please contact me, Roger Hudson by E-mail to hudson@globalserve.com
  • Barrow has also got a Leisure Centre with a sports pitch (plastic).
  • The town hall is pretty spectacular than at other towns. Better than Prestons (it's crap).
  • Barrow have a football club Barrow AFC, they play at Holker Street.
  • There is soon to be a wonderful new shopping centre in the town.
  • Other attractions are the dock museum which is only two or three years old and gives a good insight into Barrow's shipping past, present and future. At the present the people of Barrow are more interested with the opening of Portland Walk shopping centre off Dalton road which cost the council 3.2 million to build. Shops include River Island, Andy's Records, Top Shop, Debenhams, Stolen from Ivor and the Body Shop.
  • you didnt realise in your famous things about Barrow that Mick Hucknall came to Walney Island for his holidays in 1972 I know I met him there but sadly in April 1973 I left my hme town and went to Brisbane Australia and havent returned its in his autobiography if you care to read it and as an expatriate of Barrow its the best town ever except for the fact everyone knew everything about everyone LOL Carol
