• The Council. I'm sorry but they really need to pull their finger out. If there's a rise in crime in Barrow it's because the lack of choices for kids is a very sad state of affairs. There needs to be a fresh influx of ideas to regenerate business, tourism etc in area and people who are going to act on the ideas, instead of living in the diminishing shadow of the ship building industry. And for the person who posted the nasty little comment about inbreeding, theres a population of over 70,000 people in Barrow. It's not a hick town.

• The way the children are out on streets way into the night in some of the areas. They must really intimate some of the older residents. Local car parks walls used for continuous ball games even when dark, and the poor houses that are adjacent, say nothing as some not all of the kids are a real menace. Other areas see ball games in the street in between park cars, yet again if you love your car with no dents and scatches get a garage.

• Barrow Councillors tellng you what they can do weather you agree or not. They never listen to it`s public but can award themselves big fat pay rises.
• Isolated- almost an island (but in some ways that's one of its curous charms as well) An undertow of drunken violence - it adds a certain edge to a night out.

• Barrow's a bit of a dirty & grimy place (but it's getting better).
• The sky line is dominated by the diminishing slag bank, and by the huge VSEL submarine sheds.
• Barrow has very little for younger people to do at night except go clubbing. There is a cinema (it's recently been revamped), but it's small, and not reasonably priced for the quality of the viewing (in my opinion that is).
• Barrow has Heysham nuclear power to the south, Sellafield to the North, and a place that builds nuclear submarines sat in it. This suggests to me (and I'm a physicist) that radioactivity may occasionally be a problem in the area. If there's a nuclear disaster or war, Barrow will be ground zero.
