• Software Plus is expensive Ñ go to Thatz Entertainment in Lakeside if you can (it's much cheaper).
• Lovely games shop called Phoenix Games, that's the one in the Galleries of Eastgate by the entrance of Allders. It is usually full of regulars playing games of magic and such, and if you bring a deck you are welcome to play even if they don't know you. The atmoshpere is generally one of friendly insanity supplied by Del, the young energetic goth who works there, and Jim the hairy owner. It supplies roleplay games, card games, war games, etc. This isn't an advertisment, it may sound like one, but I'm just a regular who thinks this shop deserved more of a mention than it got.
• Software place has shut down but there are lots of alternatives. Game and the Virgin Megastore are both in side East Gate but on the town square there is another big games store. If role playing games are your thing try the comic shop opposite the big Toys R Us shop or third floor of East Gate in the Galleries.
