Pubs in Battle, East Sussex*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Battle.

Pubs
  • The Chequers Inn, 17th Century Inn with a good selection of real ales, largers and Ciders, served well, by a friendly team of staff. Nice Beer garden with Boules pitch. Live Music, Quize nights, see the website for whats on.
  • Real gem, real ale, real food, real atmosphere, great place to go.
  • The chequers pub ha improved vastly over the past couple of years and appears in CAMRA's good beer guide with a good write up. The food is good and even though some of the regulars are a bit strange, there is always a friendly atmosphere
  • There are no decent pubs in Battle, move onto next town.
  • Chequers. Took my family there for a meal and were treated like dirt because we have three children. What a couple of miserable and two-faced uglies.
  • The Senlac is not a total dump but close but so is every pub in battle no where alternative best getting on the bus/train and going to the pig in paridise in hastings
  • Chequers, Kings Head, 1066, Senlac, Black HOrse, Squirrel, The Bull, The Abbey.
  • Senlac. First pub up from Railway station. Big White Dump next to Bowling Green. Full of Hoorays, skanks and people who use their heads as suppositories. Beer will disembowel you. Smells of Formaldehyde. Chequers. Opposite bookmakers. Used to have well dodgy pianist and naff decor. Serves Harveys, so OK. All oak beams and horse-brasses. Stinks of fag-ash. 1066. As much bonhomie and atmosphere as Matalan. Drink the Boddingtons. Open all day, serves edible food, though waitress will drop it on floor before you get to eat it. Another laughable bog, urinals so close together not even three stick insects can use simultaneously. Abbey. Landlord is allergic to smiling. Shepherd Neame, so beer is vile swill. Crap discos occasionally. Hums on a Friday night when the inbreds come out to party. Has a bench outside ideal for sleeping on. The Bull. A wine bar. Swine bar more like. Live folk music on Sunday. Rickety old chairs and duffers with zimmers everywhere. Not big enough to swing a cat in. Least likely venue for a punch-up. Kings Head in Mount Street used to have deliciously hot blonde barmaid, now staff all look like Freddy Kruger crossed with Porky Pig. Pokey, hot as hell thanks to big fireplace, but has character. Tiny bogs. Door will slap you in back and knock your dick out your hands as new punter enters. The Squirrel. Kiddies bouncy castle in carpark. Bikers stop-off and another place for Hoorays and their Range Rovers. No way to walk it from town, so drive, get drunk, get arrested. Police are humourless oafs in Battle and will even breathalyze skateboarders. Most have pool tables, dartboards and fruit machines to fend boredom.
  • a few, the chequeres
