- The place is full of people who wouldn't cross the road to pee on you if you were on fire - and I feel the same about them.
- Battle was the site of the Battle of Hastings 1066. The Abbey was built to commemorate the battle and the town grew up around it. There is a famously dangerous and anarchic Nov 5 carnival in the town which culminates in the destruction of an enormous efergy of usually a political nature. There are many entertainments and re-enactments on the battlefield which is open to the public.
- On Bonfire Night all the inbred moogs don their ring-pull suits of armour and coal-scuttle hats to annoy the police, for a big firework display. The cobwebs are dusted off a brass band and they oompah up and down the High Street tunelessly.
Re-enactments of historical battles always happening behind abbey. Any excuse to dress up in armour and twat someone on the head with a play sword.
