• I completely disagree on the whole slatering of the Chinese take-aways in Beccles. And please don't use the word Chinky! It's offensive! And since when do they serve up turkey meat instead of chicken?? That's a lie! Superfry Chinese is the best in town!
• Townhouse Cafe Beccles Kebab good for lunchtime deals Toby's Chip Shop - battered sausage & chips for £1.25
• tobys fish and chips/restaurant all the kids love the toby special for £1.oo in the take-away. the batter on the fish is crisp and golden. you pay a bit more in the restaurant but you get waitress service and larger portions.
• sandwiches from Twyfords are excellent and full and overflowing. you get what you pay for here
• Judy & Phil's home made special cakes, the best in town can't get enough.
• Chicken 2000 - please refrain your poor existences from venturing into this decrepit place. As the banner outside the shop states: 'blah, blah, blah, Pizzas.' I went in there one merry even, asked for a pizza, only to be greeted with, in a grumbled, 'foreign' accent, 'What is a pizza? Pizza?' You work it out. Blimey.
• The bakers oven rocks! nice pastys!
• BECCLES KEBABS are the best in the country, bar NONE!!!
• Avoid all the Beccles Chinky take-aways at ALL cost!! Free with each portion is enough excess oil to perform an oil change on your car... For a great tasting & great value chinky, hop in your motor & try the Golden Palace in Carlton Road, Lowestoft. Proper man-sized portions with loads of chicken/beef/prawns in each dish, unlike those in our otherwise fine town. Bombay Indian is ok, but beware of the wine served, as most of it seems to be bought from Somerfield on a daily basis. The Italian restaurant is ok for food, as long as you don't mind waiting in excess of two hours for your main course or takeaway. Oh, and there's the somewhat top-heavy charge of £3.50 for a glass of wine!!
• Avoid all the Chinky Take-Aways in Beccles - they are over-priced, and dish up Turkey meat when you ask for Chicken! Lowestoft has little to recommend it, but at lease they have some decent (and good value) Chinkys.
• The food outlets of Beccles leave a lot to be desired - the three Chinky houses either rip you off with tiny spring rolls & half-portions, turkey masquerading as chicken, or dishes with enough excess oil to service your car! Best Chinky for miles is the Golden Palace in Carlton Road, Lowestoft. I recommend that all fellow Becclesians boycott the Bombay Indian as it is cheaper to spend a few quid on petrol to save a fortune by buying a decent curry from the numerous curry houses in Norwich. Plus there are some good pubs down Magdalen Street whilst you're waiting for your top-notch Ruby.
