Cinemas
- Nearest is Hollywood in Lowestoft but it ain't that great. Better off tripping over to Norwich and going to Vue in Castle Mall or UCI on Riverside.
Public Hall sometimes puts the classics on for the older generations
- Used to be the Beccles Regal and, even earlier, the Cinema - now a furniture showroom. Problem with the Cinema was the fleas and the problem with the Regal was Fat Ernie farting during the love scenes and Mr Kett shining his torch on the couples in the doubles at the back just when they got to the heavy bit. All this happened in the 1950s and 60s but Sir David Frost (old local resident) once described the Regal as 'East Anglia's leading entertainment centre', and, indeed, that is what its programmes proclaimed. All gone now!
- Well you could always go to the public hall and sit on hard back chairs rather then going to Lowestoft or Norwich
- Beccles use to have Two cinamas, but this was unfortunatly many years ago. On the site where one stood in Bally-gate the local builder purchased the plot for a song then crammed in so many private dwellings to be unreal, probably made his million and I sit here pennyless. The other is in Saltgate (opposite the medievil garage) and has been turned into a very nice furniture shop.
- There WAS one once upon a time, though it got shut down and is now a classy retailer specialising in wooden furniture.
