Cheap Food in Bedford, Bedfordshire*

Corner eateries, quick bites and the local chippy

You can tell us more about Bedford.

Cheap Food
  • Abduls keeebabs
  • All in Tavistock Street or the High Strret.
  • farms are always a good source of cheap dining if you like vegetarian food, usually best to dine at night time though... farmers have shotguns
  • Everyone likes Mamma Mias, the price matches the food. Personal opinion cannot be included. The Four restaurant 2 doors down sells mainly fish dishes, is new. There is a restaurant called La Scala I cannot tell you where it is as I cannot remember, got taken there, the food is Italian home made and by Italians! Pizza Express, the same as all the others. Next to New York New York always busy. La Dolce Vita another Italian open Thurs- Sat evenings, and open during the day run by a family, home made food and fresh! Saffron in Tavistock street Indian, Busy as is Indiaya on Broadway. There is a new Thai open on the Broadway not tried yet. And there is a Thai on Tavistock street, also busy. Several of the Indians in Tavistock street get busy.
  • Just look in the bins round the back of Iceland.
  • s u b w a y !!!!
  • Best Pizza. Viva Pizza. Domino's Pizza (lunchtime meal deal, 12pm until 4.30pm - 7" personal pan pizza + can of drink + potato wedges = £3!)
  • subway lidls
  • subway lidls
  • subway lidls
  • Most definitely give the dragon restaurant next to the river street car park a go if you like chinese food. Great yummy buffet, better value than the one on midland road, nice place, but when it's busy you may feel like cattle.
  • Dragon Inn on Peel Street(off Tavistock Street). cheap meal with great food. excellent value for money
  • curry, chinese, any kind of asian italian. all based down and around tavistock street.
  • andreas on a sat night at 3 am lol
  • pizza hut as long as u don't mind eatin with several hundred bhs slappers wen its someone's birthday, Mamma mia's does proper good food but it is more expensive and futher outta town.
  • MIDLAND ROAD, take away central! got everything you could possibly want takeaway wise
  • just want to point out the restaurant named russels ceased trading about 6-7 years ago it is now called nicholls. i don't think you will be to inundated with over 65's now.
  • Mongolian near the Ford showroom is all you can eat pick your ingredgents i was like "raw veg? okay must be authentic" then "raw fish oh well sushi and all that" then "RAW MEAT your having a bubble bath" but they cook it for as i saw when i turned around n.b. don't buy beer not worth it
  • tavistock street - purveyors of post midnight snacks galore!! Also plenty down the high street including maccy d's.
  • The Carvery on Goldington road is rinsin', excellent food at bargain price if u get the carvery. OK, so booze aint cheep, but the food is cool, and the the carvers are always really friendly.
  • Russells Brasserie turned into Nichols, and serves some unusual fish from time to time. Best place in the Bedford area is St Helena in Elstow.
  • All food in Bedford is absolutely dire, except Safrons (Indian) on Tavistock street. This is the only place in Bedford which holds me back from recommending the Tescos on Cardington road and making it yourself. Even here you can't pick up fresh vegies so you might as well give up on the idea of finding a decent salad in Bedford. God love the place.
  • Chicken Master is quite good
  • one thing this town is not short of is takeaways there are hundreds
  • Rio bella is a small frienly family run italian. Great food, Great service and its not too pricey
  • Tavistock, andreas is no bad when you are wrecked. Also boxing events regular on this street
  • Ahh!! the wonderful 'Pizza Pizza Pizza Express' (yes, thats its real name!!) down near Bedford School does extremely scrumptious pizzas, particularly the 4 cheeses one. Highly recommended as an alternative to the fake Pizza hut and pizza express puffy versions. Only thin crust served here!!

  • Pizza Express in St. Peters Street does the best pizzas in town (real Italian not US erstatz). De Parys in De Parys Avenue for Tex-Mex.
  • Alfonso's in Lime Street does the best BLTs.
  • Santaniellos good italian pizza etc. Don't ever eat anything from Tavistock pool & snooker club esp. the Onion Bahjis!
  • Sanentellios in Newnham street - possibly the best pizzaria in the world - every town should have one!!
  • New coffee bar on Mill Street. It's smartening up around here, despite the High Street and Boulevards going to the dogs. Why isn't there anywhere to grab a coffee in the evenings though? Best pizza kind of a bar is next to the auction - forgot its name but its not Santaniellos, I mean next to the chippie
  • The Piazza is an out-door cafe. The owners are really friendly and the food is tasty, but watch out for Rob, as he's always trying to chat up the girls ;-)
  • Expresso Bar on Rothsay Place/Newnham Street rules supreme, this place is so cool, their ice cream is pretty expensive but lovely and their pastrami sandwiches are it. Well worth a visit (As is Freds Fish and Chips next door if you dig the smell of grease).
  • Santaniellos is the cheapest pizza place in town, it's pretty cool as well, it's also on Newnham Street.
  • Russel's Brasserie is the classy tea and cake joint on the Embankment by the river, well worth a visit if you're 65 or over.
  • The Time Of Kings on Midland Road does Chinese lunch for £3.50 between 12:30-2:30 wicked.
  • Don's Kebabs is open on the High Street until 2 in the morning.
  • Chowdhury's curry house on Tavistock Street, man you gotta check out this street there's about thirteen curry houses and they all rock. Plus China Palace round the back of the multi-storey on Newnham Street is the best Chinese, but it's a bit expensive.
  • The Golden Dragon Chinese restaurant on Foster Hill Road does a stunning special fried rice, which is even tastier after a few bevvies at the Executive Club, on the way back to Burnaby House (which is even tastier and bigger if you get someone Chinese to buy it for you!!).
  • A string of good Indian restaurants along Tavistock Street.
