Live Music Venues
- Keep awauy from esquireys, full of twats in der.
- Oasis didn't play at Esquires. They played at the pub called The Angel which was demolished and flats built in its place.
- Esquires mostly. I used to go to The Angel up until the end of December last year but it's just joined the long queue of places mentioned earlier that have closed down for reason or another. I noticed it now has builders boards all around it's site. hopefully before too long millionaire investors will realise the enormous potential if they haven't already and transform it into a brand new reinvention of The Angel and make it 5 times better and bigger within a year! Then my local monthly Goth night will become the best in East Anglia!
- Live bands play in quite a few pubs in town on various nights and also in Esquires.
- Esquires. Huh. If you're lucky, the Selecter are heaving their aged bones over the broken-down old stage upstairs, trying to make themselves heard over the woefully inadequate, badly maintained sound system. Or maybe the Bulgarian Shed Seven are in town. This is still better than the local bands.
- check out esquires, the pad and the angle. they have started doign soem really good local and big bands. razorlight he other week, bloc party playing too, bez from mondays and loads of good newies.
- Esquires, The Angel, The Bedford Athletic Rugby Club.
- esquires is brilliant for bands and people over 16 can get in so u can hang out with ur younger mates there. angel is really pretty and stylish great for bands.
- The Angel on tavistock street has re-opened. really nice venue, and you've gotta love the guitars on the wall!
- Esquires used to be a great place to check out both established and upcoming live music. It had a somewhat bad period over the past few years where good bands and acts seemed to dry up, for what reason i'm not sure. However there has been a resurgence in the quality of acts now being attracted to play esquires with names that have become quite big since their recent esquires shenanigans(Bloc Party to name one) and bands already with quite a name (The upcoming Fightstar gig for example). All in all a great night out that I have been enjoying for quite a while, with a brief pause in the middle! I've also heard that The Angel has opened up again, details unknown. Previous Fat Wreck Chords proteges "The Fight" have advertised a gig there on their website. Never been myself.
- Gordon Bennett, how old are some of these entries? The Angel got knocked down in about 1997, didn't it? Mind you, Oasis played their first headline gig there, so I suppose it deserves a mention...
- esquires
- lizzeds or lizards.........they keep changin the name nver been but heard gd things about it.......bit didgy tho
- New place called Lizard Lounge? Supposed to be good!
- ESQUIRES is the BEST alternative music venue i have visited... everyone is there for the laugh and party...ticket prices are very good value but drinks can be a little expencive, the best night to visit would have to be saturday
- Esquires gets some pretty good bands and lots of smaller local ones play there too. Also there are always interesting people hanging around in the park outside. they tend to be 'alternative' and really nice
- Again, Esquires upstairs - watch out for it cause they can get some pretty good bands who are on their way up there. But for anything more substantial you're gonna have to head to Northampton (Roadmenders) Cambridge (Junctino/corn exchange) or London. Bedford did do a pretty good version of a scaled down one-day festival - lazy sunday, but last time i heard it had been scrapped. the river festival is usually quite rubbish, unless you got nothing better to do...
- Angel is now flats.
- Greb music played down esquires. Oasis played there once n Nirvana wer gonna.
- The usual... Esquires; The Mission (new); chicago's; ...; The Rose is looking to try something new (?)...(under new management!)
- Esquires digs the alternative vibe, if you can, try to see Sick on the Bus in action there, punky band with a lot to say. not bad at all.
- the best music venue is esquires in the rown centre . you can buy tickets for any gigs from planet clothing. my friend fred plays there.
- Esquires (Greyfriars) for live rock/indie bands, nearly every weekend.
- probably the best pub with sounds had to be the angel. a hardcore venue that hosted some big names in its day, shame its gone. esquires is all thats left and thats turned to pants with to much trendy music.
- upstairs esquires. i've seen the freestylers, king adora and LTJ Buekem and MC Conrad. Plus the bands tend to wander round abit after!
- Esquires, good for gigs.
- The Angel - past acts include Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, but sometimes they get decent bands too.
- Esquires is the best place in town for underground music (indie & dance). Suburban Beats brought some of the biggest names in. Fabio, Freestylers, Grooverider, Breakbeat Era, & many more). This Night is fukkin wicked when its on. used to be a monthly thing, but now only so often
- Esquires, good for gigs etc. thats about it!
- To hear live music in Bedford it is recommended you should saunter down to Esquires on a Saturday night. Many a big name has passed through those doors and is student friendly. Check local press or trip into Planet Clothing and ask whats on. Check out the Hobgoblin Pub on the Hight St as they usually have live music aswell.
- Esquires
- The Angel's 'Out on the Floor' nights are quite good, especially if you like wide open spaces to dance in. No, the club isn't very big, but it's usually very empty. It's a feat of financial management that the place even stays open. Esquires still has bands that play, but you'll only ever see bands who are 'likely to go somewhere' rather than those who have 'made it'. Oasis, Supergrass, Ocean Colour Scene have all played, but before anybody knew them. Haven't returned, and I don't blame them, either. Haven't been to the Hard Rock Cafe, but I here it's the only club in Bedford not full of under age drinkers. Whereas the Plaza has been known to allow actual Embryos in.
