Record Shops in Bedford, Bedfordshire*
The places where you buy your music
You can tell us more about Bedford.
Record Shops
- All of the music shops in Bedford lately out-competed each other, and now there are no more dedicated CD shops in the town centre (unless it's very well disguised). If you want good music, the best place would be the bigger shops in MK, but at the moment you're not going to find it in Bedford besides small subsections in WH Smith etc.
- It seems like along with MVC and Fopp other places too such as Choices and more & more businesses of different trades are closing down in Bedford year after year! What's up with that? It can't just be down to parking, council tax and internet issues although they obviously count! So for now we are left with Woolworths and a pretty much small dealership which opened at the end of 2007 called Entertainment Exchange that are the only locations left for CD purchases. Like a lot of UK areas besides, we still only have second hand stores like charity shops and a buy or sell CD and DVD etc place similar to Cash Converters to go to for those with smaller budgets. As far as Best Selections go, we are left with spending our money on petrol or fares to go elsewhere!
- MVC or whatever it was called... but its shut down now, shame that.
- there's a new one called pfaff i think outside of the harper center
- WS Records in Mill Street sells Vinyl, different types of music, nothing cheesy I'm afraid and cd/tape packs from raves and other dj equipment. www.wsrecords.com
Also Big Shot Records in I think its Silver Street sell vinyl too for djs, not sure on the web address.
- All the record shops have closed down in Bedford now. The only places left are Music Zone, which used to be MVC. They're more concerned about selling mainstream DVDs and the acne-infested scamp behind the counter had never heard of Lee Scratch Perry or The Fall but was drumming his scabby fingers to the Coldplay track that was playing. Bedford is a town where Coldplay is cool, which says it all really. There used to be a great reggae shop on Midland Road. I now see the ex-owner pushing a kid around looking depressed. Sounds Good To Me Too was a great indie shop; I now see Jason who used to run it walking round looking like he's entered the rat race with a really dodgy-looking 'tache. Ah yes - and then there are the poky little drum'n'bass shops populated by chavs in sports gear with exactly three records on sale. If you walk in and you're not one of their mates they look at you like you've got shitting goblins trapezing through your hair.
- ha ha likely. theres a woolworths and an old mvc which is now under a different name and was worse then mvc ever was. ts disgraceful. theres a coupel of independant record shops dotted about the town, so if u keep you eyes peeled you'l see soeme. but i would not go out your way.
- MVC but its closing down soon bt i think its being taken over by HMV
- mvc
- W:s records.
- MVC is the ONLY place...............andy's reords closed down.....grrrrrrr
- Sadly we are further lacking in record shops for Bedford. Andy's recently shut, Our Price/V Shop/Sanity/delete as appropriate is now a bloody mobile phone shop (bastards!!!), so other than yer Smiths and Woolies, there is still MVC which isn't much help for fussy CD single-buyers (try Virgin or HMV in MK). There are no independent record shops, other than the one on Mill Street, which specialises in Hip Hop, Drum n Bass etc.
- Andys records used to be very good but the staff have gone downhill. Theres a little indie CD shop in Claire Court, and also a more dancey record shop for DJs on Silver Street.
- just a groove now shut. big shot records open on harpur street.
- MVC, Virgin, urm, Andy's? Hehe
- we got dat DJ Shop nxt 2 wher plaza used 2 b oposite chicagos called just a groove so dats aight.
- Andys Records on Harpur Street is just sooo fab, the staff really are the 'Bedford Elite'. Always banging out chilled choones or banging vibes...
- Planet Of Sound Indie/Rock/Dance (in Planet clothing) closed about 5 years yesrs ago.
Do the people of Bedford want or need a replacement, now in 2002 or they happy withawhat they've got?
- that'd be "just a groove" sells loads of white label stuff. everything from DnB to hip hop.
- nothing special at all, andy's records and mvc, good for mainstream crap, but
nowhere to buy alternative stuff. Virgin shop, good for ordering stuff from.

- Just A Groove on St Peters Street (next to Vincenzo's Hairdressers) is fucking brilliant. All up to date drum n bass, garage and bits of house. Run by KC (DJ & close friend of the Dream Teem) always has the freshest cuts. Also home to most of the decent DJ's in Bedford.
- Well, the obvious little shite Our Price and the better Andy's but we also have... Planet of Sound upstairs in Planet Clothing in the Arcade.Jason moved Sounds good to me Too from Claire Court to keep Planet Clothing company. Theres also Just A Groove which sells some kickin' DnB, Garage etc..next to the Plaza on St Peters St. Eze Records on Midland rd also sells the same kind of music.
- We've Our Price which is shit, MVC, which is a club thing for cheap videos and CDs. Andys on the end of Midland road, next to Burger King is a better chain store and it still sells vinyl. Sounds Solid further up Midland Road caters for the jungle and hardcore. But the King is Sounds Good to Me Too, also in Claire court, our local indie vinyl emporium, it rocks.
