The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
  • i thought de montford university was a much better name for a university than bedford university, and is bedford the only town in the uk where it isnt a legal requirement for taxi drivers to hold a full uk dvla driving licence... none of them can drive properly!!!!
  • the security staff in the harpur centre are nice, but should be issued with legal grenades and tear gas in case of undesirables often wandering in.
  • I LOVE BEDFORD
  • the mayor is a prick and does no work just goes on holiday and the bouncers need to chill they are way to jumpy
  • Weird bloke with Addidas bag who was always writing to local papers about legalising Cannabis died a couple of years ago. Death was drink related (!)
  • Why is the Bedford notice board so under used. I can't believe everyone is happy with Bedford, not if Beds on Sunday is to be believed. Go on let it all out. You never know who may be watching.
  • Just noticed the comment on your page - 'whatever happened to C-Saim' There is now a web site run by a former band member that has a small section about the band that some people might be interested in. See below
  • fraid to say that the 'wierd guy' is now dead after years of local politicking and lobbying to legailise it there you go the moseberry wood 76 story sounded so familiar - i was the kid with the airpistol chasing him.............
  • the uni is more like a college so everyone knows everyone, that makes it wicked!!! so relaxed at lansdowne!!!
  • the strange man with the beard and adidas bag died some time back, quite a harmless character really.
  • There's a lot of stick bout private school people in this site so I'm redressing the balance. There are some annoying ones, but the majority of us are just normal people who don't have money to burn. Many a time I've gone out into Bedford with £5 to spend and had a great time. There are 4 major private schools in Bedford, all belonging to the Harpur trust. Two boys and two girls. The girls are Dame Alice Harpur, down by the river, and Bedford High School in the centre of town (the best one!!) The boys schools are Bedford School in De Pary's Avenue and Bedford Modern near Sainsbury's. Bedford School is the poshest and most expensive and here are the Eton types, at Bedford Modern they're pretty normal guys.
  • Having lived in the back of beyond for 6 years (north beds) it was a relief to get out and live in the real world with a selection of services, clubs, pubs, bars more than 5 decent shops etc. I could not reccommend anything about Bedford. It's grim. The only good bits about Bedfordshire are those that aren't Bedford.
  • What ever happened to C-Saim, where are they now ?
  • The one way system is a nightmare! If you visit, you are far better off, parking out of town, or just being a pedestrian. The Borough of Bedford is the second oldest in England having been awarded Charter status by Henry II in 1166. The Borough of Bedford is the most cosmopolitan in the UK outside London - out of a population of just under 140,000, some 43 ethnic groupings are represented.
  • Nostalgia Things
    • Your page on Bedford made me real homesick and nostalgic. I'm writing this from Brisbane in Queensland, Australia where I live and sweat now. I moved to Bedford to study for a degree at what was Bedford College of Higher Education in '83 and didn't leave the town until 1990 when I moved to London. I lived in Fosterhill Road for a couple of years right opposite the Park. This is beautiful street, five of us rented a huge house for peanuts and froze all winter and played in the park (notorious for cottagers ) all Summer. I lived right behind the aforementioned Santaniellos for 4 years or so in tiny garage thing and regularly had people doing runners from Santies running over my roof. Is that weird bloke with the beard and the Adidas bag still trying to legalise cannabis?
    • Wow. So much has changed! I lived in Bedford until 1987. I grew up in Brickhill, went to school there (Parkwood and Pilgrim (could it be the same Carl Bergen. This bloke could grow a beard at 15.)), college (Mander), worked for BT (Windsor Road Yard), met my future wife (Winkles in 1980. All right, there was no where else to go back then), got married (Priory Methodist on Newnham Avenue), bought a house on Goldington Road, had some children (well my wife did , my eldest daughters were both born at North Wing) and finally left to move to Toronto, Canada in '87. The biggest complaint we had growing up in the 70's was that there was nothing to do, unless of course you were and old fart and wanted to walk by the embankment and smell the flowers. Then I reached 14 or 15 and found I could get into the pubs. Then came the clubs. The "Nitespot" used to be on the Embankment, "Stars", used to be on St. Peters, the "Spectrum" I can't remember the name of the street. And then in about 1980 came "Winkles". Is it still tiny? I was back in '94 and couldn't believe the changes. There seems to be stuff for everyone now. My daughters think it's a cool place although pretty expensive compared to Toronto.
    • Well Bedfords certainly changed since I left in 77.This place makes me very nostalgic recalling running round mosebury woods in the heatwave of 76 was it? been back one briefly on my way to MAGNA CARTA freedom rally freeked by the changes and the one way system.
