You can tell us more about Beeston.
Cringing Cult of Celebrity
- Prominent mathematician Alan Lander lives in Windsor Street. Last year he was adviser to Gordon Brown no less. Tall, with a shaved head, and remarkably enough often walks around town in bare feet. Architect Elizabeth Sturman also, often smoking and hanging around either the video shop, or Huttons AM/PM. Add to that list Andrew Hooker, historian and novelist of The Beeston Monalogues. You can find him often sat on a park bench near the church opposite the Wetherspoons. That's about it.
- The late great Edwin Starr mystifyingly lived in Chilwell, and recorded in that hot-bed of music brilliance, Bramcote. All together now...WAR! UH-HUH UH-HUH!
- the world famous boxer "bendigo" was born in and lived in beeston next to one of the big mills on wollaton road. apparently he also had the tallest chimney belonging to a household. 60foot indeed. i saw a picture of his huge stack. woof! what a size.
- MP Liz Blackman.
- Er, Corinne Drewery of "Swing Out Sister" who sang Breakout was born here - her family had the nous to quit here when she was about 8. Also Sherrie Hewson of Coronation St was born here. And that, guys and gals is about it!
- Strap On Sally, fine Nottingham band and Rock-City veterans hail from Beeston, as does the Paul Smith, the designer.
