My G.Father Arthur, was born 8 Essex Place, B/G in 1870 to George John Cumming and Mary Ann nee Anderson. Other childrens names: Alfred Edwin, Clement, Edgar and Ernest. Probably others. My grandmother, Dora (alias Harriet Matilda) Latham (alias Murphy) gave birth in Brent House Salvation army mother and baby home, to Ronald in 1915. She was one of a large family. The father of her baby was Thomas Hall, born in White Street. Anything at all known about any Lathams/Murphys/Halls? Or anything about Emily and George Ashwell, who lived in Brierley Street? Reply

Still looking for info on a lost relative of my stepfather. Greta Whittall ( nee Emondson) born 1909 Barrow-in-Furness, left or was kicked out of the family home due to a crises not known as my stepfather was only four years old, never heard from or saw her again, knows nothing of her family, just really trying to find what become of his mother during the time she went, her birth certificates sta tes William Edmondson b: 1888 as her father, Angelina Edmondson ( nee Harvey) as mother. 1911 census shows her as an only child at that time aged two, living at 89, Smeaton Street, Cumbria. it is thought that she may have went to London or Scotland, could have remarried had more children whatever. any info would be much appreciated ... more >> Reply

My Great grandmother Alice Elizabeth New was unmarried and had my grandmother in a Salvation mother and baby home she stayed in Brenthouse and had her in Ivy house maternity hos for unmarried mothers. She came from Swindon 1885 Does any one out there have this lady in their line. She never kept my grandmother so i know very little of this lady. These ladies would have gone to hell and back just b ecause the had a baby out of wedlock. when people call them the naughty girls i get angry. IF IT WAS NOT FOR ALICE I WOULD NOT BE HERE. Her fathers name was Thomas Wheal a butcher in his time form the London area. These details were kindly given to me by the Salvation army Herritage centre..
