The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
  • Well Wribbenhall on the Kidderminster side of the bridge is a great place to hook up as long as its not raining. When it does it floods, not because of the River, but Ridding Brook which flows via a culvert that runs underground from Riddings Close, down the Queensway, through Church Meadow, throuhg another short culvert, open Brook, under the road, through a series of pools in the Safari Park, under another short culvert, brook section alongside Sandbourne Close, before finally joining the River Severn by the Sports Centre and High School.
  • Teddy grays sweet shop, HSBC and Nationwide banks
  • Nigel Knowles - a local writer - factual books about Bewdley's wonderful history (Baxter and the Civil War etc) and also fiction inclucding novels, poetry and plays. Check out his work in the local book shops. 20/3/02
  • floods
  • Other good places to visit - Severn Valley Railway, Britains premier steam railway, sounds boring but is actually a brilliant day out. Safari Park - I haven't been for years. Fairly Decent rollercoaster plus the animals Wolves, lions etc. Wyre Forest, a good place to take your Girlfriend/Boyfriend at night. Also good to scare your mates and yourself.
  • Apparently there have been a couple of UFO sightings in the surrounding area though if you're into that sort of stuff Trimpley is better. It is by far nicer than anywhere in the surrounding area. Good place to take Grannies etc. and the river doesn't look as polluted as it does in Stourport. Again can be a little bit violent in some areas at night but you should be okay. Oh yes and the Safari Park is pretty naff really, they've got rid of most of the rollercoasters and they've stopped the monkeys form escaping which always used to be a bit of a laugh. However you can drive through the lion, elephant and rhino enclosures which is pretty cool.
  • The Safari park has in fact gone seriously downhill and is not worth the money they are charging. The Severn Valley Railway is still a top day out and can take paople to Arley, and further up the river severn to Bridgnorth. On a Friday night Scuffles do start but usually only between school kids. Areas to avoid are the Library car park and under the bridge.
  • Habberly Valley, half way between Kidderminster and Bewdley contains a large (90 feet high) sandstone cone which is well worth visting to climb all over. Bewdley has a classic cheasey carnival, with fireworks the night before on the riverbank. The town hibernates in January and February.
  • I have been living in Bewdley for most of my life. It is very peaceful, but if you're some weirdo do not go to the schools, I was the talk of my school for about three months, because I dyed my hair bright red, and my sister still gets comments about it now. Do not go to the Safari Park, you would be supporting a regime which only pay their workers lousy wages.
  • Bewdley & District Mountaineering Club Meets at the Pack Horse Inn, 9.30pm Thursday.
