Pubs in Birkenhead, Merseyside*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Birkenhead.

Pubs
  • the swan, the half way, and the clipper in Prenton are all decent places. For a more up market scene head to oxton village and try the shrew and the terrace ( be warned the people do think they are kind of beautiful )
  • uiydutylujyyu
  • The pub formerley known as oxton arms nee talbot attracts very cool clientele. i wish they would remember that when they take harpic into toilets they should simply put down bog not up nose. god this really is a bad town. TRFC OK
  • yates is ok but its on charring cross thats where most of the trouble is but yates is guf
  • parkview hotel duke st is one friendly pub and good beer
  • The Bridge Inn in Port Sunlight is fab.....great food!
  • Oxton Bar and Terrace opposite Oxton Computers in Oxton village is an excellent bar with good and sometimes live music. Mike and Joanne are good hosts behind the bar with a good team of staff and outside terrace feature in a unique feature in our picturesque village. No queues at bar and no schoolies or rifraf
  • Clipper next - live music good atmosphere, shame about the crap ale though. Shrewsbury arms Oxton and the Crown in the town centre great pubs great buzz great ale
  • the hotel califonia ( formerly the castle on green lane ) which is the successor of the boot hill saloon on argyl street which is now the liquid lounge ( another scally scally bar full of kids) so if u like rocking and you area rocker or rock chick or like that stuff go to the hotel california just 5 mins from the town centre
  • THE STORK!, a great pub to visit on a Friday afternoon, all ranges of ales, great food and pleasant staff. Be there or be sober!!!!!
  • the george on argyle street is ok
  • The Stork for a good pint of real ale. Rotating guest beers. Plus the management make you very welcome.
  • pubs are the friendliest in birkenhead
  • trav's on mount road, brillaint selection of guest bitters.nice and quiet pub no loud music you can hear yourself think, get in early as it gets packed out
  • The Stork. The Crown Conway Street.
  • The boot hill continues to be the hangout spot for the ugly people... rife with drugs and still not a healthy idea to go there unless youare close primeavle relatives of the thugs on the door
  • The Boothill Saloon - Got a late licence, plays nothing but metal (varies from DJ to DJ). Does theme nights for members only, walls are decorated with metal artifacts - shirts, gig tickets, album sleeves etc..
  • have you been to the stirrup lately well its got a new manager, a great new menu the manager and her parner has repainted the inside them-selfs and noe have started on the outside, they also have the best funnyest quiz on the wirral on thurs nights GIVE IT A TRY
  • Has the person who slagged off the Boothill Saloon been there lately? It's the best place in Birkenhead for easygoing people who don't like dance music. There is never any trouble and the bouncers are not a problem. Give it a go! (And no, I am not the owner or an employee)
  • Yatess coz its yatess, Sonnys is quite good aswell as some others like; Hornblowers, halfway house etc but not the blu bar!
  • My cousin Andy & me used to have some cracking nights out in The Stirrup (or Seven Stiles occasionally), followed by plenty of dodgy dancing (and DJ Dave Graham) in the Pleasuredrome (late 80's/early 90's). Usually followed by a quick taxi down to New Brighton for a fight outside RJ's. Happy Days.
  • Old Colonial, Bridge Street/ Taylor St (on the corner), Birkenhead. Brilliant food & real ale
  • Not the Bloodtub in teh North end.... Waterloo is ace, also loved the Commodore and of course the long demised Angel Inn where I had my first ever large Southern and Lemo at the ripe age of 15!(it was my brithday!). Think theres a new swimming pool there now.
  • I am a regular at The Boothill saloon in birkenhead and i disagree totally with your remarks. It is a very friendly non-violent pub with excellent staff (the bouncers are the same as any other bouncer in birkenhead)and music. I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to sit in a pub with teenyboppers!
  • John Laird=full of OAPs the rest=full of "youthful" lookers Birkenhell-awful!
  • The Shrewsbury Arms in Oxton - wicked and a top landlord.
  • The Boot Hill Saloon is great... (has a goth night, if your interested, but im not sure when). Need to be a member on saturday evenings.
  • Absolutely never ever bother going to the Boot Hill Saloon if you are in Birkenhead. The music and ale are great but the bouncers leave a lot to be desired. Unless you are particularly ugly (like the bouncers) or want to lose your looks -don't bother. The bouncers are rude at best. Not knowing who did what, but isn't it funny that two regulars recently ended up beaten to a pulp, one actually dieing? Enough Said.
  • Good pubs - Halfway House in Prenton (they have live bands an quizzes), The Mersey Clipper in Tranmere (again good live bands)
  • woodchurch hotel, woody estate, regular haunt 4 local pi##heads.more stolen goods than in the bridewell.
  • I'm in the Royal Navy, living in Plymouth and miss Birkenhead for a)Su-Su Super White Army! b) The George & Dragon pub c)the people. It may be run down in places and have dodgy drug dealing druggies hanging around like flies on shit in the North End, but they beat the people down here hands down!
  • THE MEADOWS, lovely pub, great crowd, beautiful beer, some cracking live music. Brilliant boss and barstaff, and if you're very good you might even get a lock in. Can't forget to mention the SEADOG as well, same again, great crowd, brilliant barstaff, smashing boss, great live music,'MALLY & CHRIS' Only problem is you must like warm beer.
  • The Eagle and Crown in Upton Village on Sunday nights is the place to be - best karaoke ever!! £20 for the winner.
  • For all those who can remember the greatest band in Wirral, Hush, do not despair. For even though one member has started up with a bimbo who warbles and no longer play any decent songs, the other is starting up a new band called "CO.UK". Their first gig is on 7th April at the Claughton in Claughton Village, and promises to be a great night. Although the line-up of songs won't be exactly the same as Hush's, I guarantee that a few old favourites will be played.
  • Get your arse down to The Swan, Prenton, Birkenhead !
  • New pub Horblowers on Market Street is now open and is GOOD! Great food. Good atmosphere and hoping to have live music in New Year
  • the shrew, in the beer garden when you can hear tranmere playing
  • Market Inn and Glass House seem to have been knocked into one space. Called Hornblower. No idea of opening date. Will advise. Looks cool! Dispensary by Oz Cabs is also OK!
  • The Shrewsbury Arms - nice pub, opposite The Mayflower. The Cherry Orchard in Arrowe Park.
  • the mersey clipper, next to TRFC. has great live bands on weekends and superb food.nice young crowd and no scallies here!
  • New pubs in Birkenhead : Ice Bar - 2am licence. Quite good Liverpool Mathew St. style bar Aston's Bar - 2am licence. Smaller than most, but better than most ! Colliseum - 2am licence. Never been, meant to be average.
  • Yates' Charing X pre club extravaganza ***
  • North Western (Blackies) Cleveland Street. Late. ****
  • Prenton Park, Borough Road. Lockins, fun, friendly boss. ******
  • CHARING CROSS HOTEL doubles bar fri and sat
  • The Oxton Arms in ( surprise) Oxton is about one of the cheapest and offers a wide selection of nuts.
