Dear Lisa
I was visiting this website when I happened to notice your message regarding Barbara Craven/Martin/Clowes.
It is likely that you have found the information you need by now, but if not, I can help you.
My name is Mike Collinson and I am a well known, leading Adoption and Missing people researcher with 15 years' experience of finding missing people worldwide.
I have now discovered most of the details that you are seeking, but can't post some of those details here for reasons of discretion.
I have your own birth record - Lisa Ann Martin, born early [Jan-Mar] 1969, but as you must know, that Birth registration was changed, and shows up some time later, but I won't dwell on that topic here.
Barbara, as you have said was one of 6 children - not 5 - as you haven't mentioned her oldest sibling Norman who died at birth.
As far as Barbara's marriage to a Mr Martin is concerned, there is no visible record in either England or Wales that such a marriage ever took place.
However, when she married Geoffrey, she married as Barbara Martin.
It's very possible that she married Martin somewhere other than England or Wales, in which case there would be no record of the marriage in this country.
I don't know to what extent you are in touch with any of Barbara's surviving siblings, but they may well be able to help, unless you've already tried that route.
Do please get in touch if you would like any help.
Kind regards
Mike Collinson

Hi,
I was born at Clatterbridge Hospital in 1969. I was then put into foster care in a private house. I think it was in the Woodchurch estate.
Does anyone know who the foster people could of been? My case worker was a Mrs Bellis.
I have my adoption records but there is so little on it.

Hiya.
I know you have your adoption files but do you know that you are entitled by law to have access to all of your care files? I would like to give you more information so that you may continue with your search. Thanks for taking time to read my message. xxx

I am looking for information on Childrens Homes in Birkenhead around 1915/1920. My father Harold McWilliams and his siblings were put in a home around the above dates as his mother & father could not look after them, his elder brother John got them out of the home as soon as he could (this information from the son of John). They lived in Cleveland Street between 1912 & 1915. Any help locating the Homes and the where abouts of records would be appreciated.

Hi,
I spent time in two Childrens Homes in the Birkenhead area in the 1950s. One was at the top of Park Road South, where the road divides to Ashfield Road. Right in the middle of the divide, and long gone, was the Manor Grange Childrens Home, run by Nuns. It overlooked the two roads from its gardens.
The second Childrens Home was on Overchurch road, right opposite the Overchurch Estate, now private homes, alongside the Moreton Spur. That also was run by the Nuns.
Hope this might be of use,

My nana was Elizabeth Mary Cullen and her and her siblings were in Manor Grange and Overchurch childrens homes in the 40's. The other Cullen children were Doris Cullen, Margaret Joan Cullen, Stephen Barry Cullen. Does anyone have any personal experience of these homes they could share? Does anyone recollect the Cullen children? Where might I go about researching more about these homes?

My name is John O'Hara, married to Geraldine O'Hara (nee Har). I Geraldine was also in Manor Grange and Overchurch childrens homes at the same period. also my sister Kathleen and brother Ronnie. I do remember the Cullen family. Doris had very bad catatacts, don't know what happened to her. My sister Kathleen says Betty who was probably Elizabeth was absolutely beautiful, I remember Joan was also very pretty. Then there was a Brenda who used to come with me to a family on a Sunday, named Mr and Mrs Fernley at 100 Elmswood Rd Birkenhead, they had a sweet shop it was on the corner just off Borough Rd. I am almost sure they adopted Brenda. Also vaguely remember Joan went there for a while also. Sorry don't remember any boys.
Hope this can help. Please let me know if anyone remembers me. e-mail: gegsy6@hotmail.com ... more >>

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help. Me and my sister are putting together a "this is your life" type album for a family member and we are looking for old photographs from around birkenhead.
I'm looking specifically for old photographs of Birkenhead town centre, Higher Tranmere and New Brighton from the 1950s, through to the 80s.
In particular I am looking for photos in and around Oliver Street in Birkenhead. It no longer exists - but used to run parallel to Grange road (it lies beneath the open car parks at the back of Grange Road where the new ASDA is being built).
I have found some stuff using google - but its very limited.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks ... more >>

Hi,
As far as I can remember in my old age this is how it went:--->
on the left hand side, from the top going down to Argyle St were:->
Stan the butcher's shop,
Bryants sweet shop,
Robert's tool shop,
Then ->
O'Kells clothes shop,
Candlish the green grocers,
And I think there was an opticians near the bottom somewhere.
Hope this helps.

I worked in the Direct Meat Co Butchers that stood opposite the Bakers Arms, Exmouth Street in 1956 and as far as Memory serves O'kells was on the left as you walked from Claughton Road toward Watson Street/Conway Street Junctions.
O'Kells was a double fronted shop that was four or five shops down in those days and lasted into the 1960s when the slum clearance destroyed it all.
Hope that helps,
Bryan

Hello, I am currently working as part of a team assisting with an exhibition of work by the photographer Tom Wood who photographed at Cammell Laird in 1992 and again in 1996 and also at the Chelsea Reach nightclub in New Brighton in 1984 to 1986. We are trying to get in touch with people that can share their stories of their time at the shipyard from 1996 or before and from the nightclub from anyt ime up to its closure. Also we are interested in any memorabilia that people may have from that time. If you or anyone you know can help us please contact me on reply or email me on tomwood@hotmail.co.uk. Thank you,
