Chemist at 130 Price Street, Birkenhead by Les Walker (Member 10296199) on 30-Sep-2014
Anyone remember Cooksons (Hodgkinson) the Chemist at 130 Price Street. I worked from 1944 - 1947 behind the counter. Boss Robin Hodgkinson had daughter - Christine - who later became a Chemist and opened a shop very close to Price Street - would love to hear from you Christine.

I lived across from Cooksons and as a young child would go there often for Ostermilk baby food. I remember a tall thin man who used to serve in the shop. Perhaps it was you.

Also remember a cough moisture called Liquidfruta. Sounded lovely but, in fact, was horrible tasting stuff.

i remeber a bernadette ocallaghan living in a shop opposite the chemist

That tall/thin man was me - I enjoyed just under three years in the shop before departing for 'national service' - or 'conscription' as it was called in 1947..........Les

  • Re: Chemist at 130 Price Street, Birkenhead by Les Walker (Member 10296199) on 25-Jan-2015
Liquidfruta was pretty foul to the taste - but quite an effective mixture for those days. We sold a 'home made' mixture called 'Rock Salmon' which was an excellent mixture for cough/colds and was well known in the local area.....Les

Born at Clatterbridge Hospital 1969.Adoption by ian (Member 10274921) on 16-Jun-2012
Hi,
I was born at Clatterbridge Hospital in 1969. I was then put into foster care in a private house. I think it was in the Woodchurch estate.
Does anyone know who the foster people could of been? My case worker was a Mrs Bellis.
I have my adoption records but there is so little on it.

  • Re: Born at Clatterbridge Hospital 1969.Adoption by CHRISTINE (Member 10283717) on 14-Mar-2013
    Hiya.
I know you have your adoption files but do you know that you are entitled by law to have access to all of your care files? I would like to give you more information so that you may continue with your search. Thanks for taking time to read my message. xxx

  • Re: Born at Clatterbridge Hospital 1969.Adoption by ian (Member 10274921) on 3-May-2014
    Thank you for your reply.
I have all my records but there isn't a lot in there. They didn't have to keep all records in 1969. Lancashire County Council have told me all I know.
I found out about the foster placement I had for 5 weeks on the Woodchurch Estate from my birth mother. She wont tell me any more information.
