Pubs in Birmingham King's Heath, West Midlands*
The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call
You can tell us more about Birmingham King's Heath.
Pubs
- just up the road (i cant believe no ones mentioned this) the jug of ale should go down in history as the god of all places £1 a pint on wednesdays!!!!!!!!!
- hare and hounds, goose, just up the road in moseley is the best pub ever- the jug of ale but don't go there because i like it all for myself. Mwaa ha haa.
- Hare and Hounds has new landlady as of Dec 2001. The crowd has changed slightly, and not for the better, as the folks that were barred by the previous managers have started to drift back. There is a Wetherspoon's pub under construction further up the High Street towards Sainsbury's, opposite the Post Office, which will be a pleasant change when it opens.
- They are ALL old men pubs, especially the Horseshoe. Lots of boarded up places, if you are under 40, go to Moseley or town.
- Station (rear lounge when open) is nice for a quiet chat.
Goose Pub is now done up but still o.k. for cheap beer. Lost its charm a bit in the renovation - no longer the Social Services Day Centre it once was -bouncers now provided. Former clientele seem to have been dispersed amongst all pubs.
- Hare & Hounds - probably the best pub on the High Street. Recent price rises not welcome, but not too bad.
Front bar generally quite lively. Slightly older crown in the back, but
it can be nice and quiet in there, even if it is a bit smelly (old men!).
The Station - Front bar is terrible (too bright and very smoky (and I'm a smoker!)), but the back bar is OK. Quiet enough to get a seat
and have a proper conversation on a Friday night.
The Goose - this is the one to avoid. Recently refurbished, but still with the same crowd
of old lags queueing up outside at 10:55am, pi**ed by mid-day. Not pleasant at any time of day.
Does reasonable food though - some people go there for Sunday lunch.
- THE place to drink if you are underage, i.e under 16, best in the conty some would say, plenty of em to wash your cares away.you'll need it after a in the local hospital.
- Hare & Hounds - spit and sawdust
Goose & Granite - full of Irish old folk with shopping bags shouting at you for no apparent reason
Station: zzzz
Forget it and head (15 mins walk) for Moseley, where there's:
The Cross - *loadsa* babes
Hogshead - full of rugby ****s
Fighting Cocks - full of crusties and expensive pints. Food's okay, though
O'Neills - gorgeous redhead of a barmaid and good to chill out in on a Sunday afternoon. Let's hope they'll get their 2am licence soon - Moseley needs it
Patrick Kavanagh (formerly Trafalgar, dodgiest pub in Birmingham). Irish without being Oirish. Best pub around even at £2 for a lager
Prince of Wales - full of BBC ponces
- The Station.
The Goose and Granite (formerly known as the Cross Guns).
The King's Arms (Alcester Lanes End).
The Billesley.
The Fieldmouse and Firkin (Moseley, formerly known as the Fighting Cocks).
The Hogshead (Moseley).
The Prince of Wales (Moseley).
The Trafalgar (Moseley).
O'Neills (Moseley, rather bad).
If you hadn't noticed, much of the drinking goes on in Moseley. The residents are not amused!
