I recently saw some photographs of Kings Heath from the early 1960s and the memories came flooding back. My mates and I must have walked grooves in the pavements on either side of the High Street. Up one side and down the other, night after night. The Silver Grill, The Kingsway, pinball machines in the cafe in York Road, the under 18s dance at The Ritz on Monday nights, The Scorpion, Kings Heath Park, under age drinking at The Hare and Hounds.....Happy days.................. ... more >> Reply

I'm sure you were all as devastated as I was when you heard about the awful Earthquake and Tsunami over in Japan! Felt like you wanted to help but didn't know what you could do all the over in Brum? Never fear, cakes for Japan is here! There will be a pop up shop THIS Saturday, 9th April, over at the Custard Factory. Bakers from all over the West Midlands have joined in and donated so there will be some absolutely delicious goodies on sale to delight your senses. Not just your tastebuds my friends, some of these cakes will look absolutely STUNNING, almost too good to eat, but who doesn't want to eat cake?! It is for a good cause after all! Just a warning about the service I received from a local tradesman. I chose Gas Man because he was local and said that he would service my boiler in the cost of a repair. Peter (owner) from Gas Man firstly spent a few minutes and told me that the boiler needed a new fan, He charged me without doing anything 'promising' to come back to complete the job. I then had to keep phoning him to get him to do anything. His quote for the fan was very expensive and I got one for him for less than half the price. When I eventually got hold of him to fit it, he said that his original diagnosis was wrong. The boiler still didn't work (a total waste of money on the fan!). He did appear genuine when he said he would come back but has disappeared from trace. AVOID ... more >> Reply

10 year old Emma has had surgery for Scoliosis and is now campaigning to raise awareness of the condition and for all children in the UK to have the very simple 'bend forward' test to get an early diagnosis of Scoliosis. She has an online petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/start-testing-for-scoliosis-in-schools. Emma is aiming for 1000 signatures and currently has just short of 300... I'd like to see this figure go through the roof!!! This is an issue close to my heart as my son was diagnosed with adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis at 16 and had surgery last november when he was aged 18 and a half. Many thanks!
