Pubs in Bishops Waltham, Hampshire*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Bishops Waltham.

Pubs
  • The crown The barleycorn The bunch of grapes
  • IMHO: Barleycorn:- Used to be reasonable Pub. But now, it's more of a restaurant with very average food. The bar prices leave you checking your change every time. Shocking really. Kitchen staff can be rude (really didn't what to take my order 10 mins before the kitchen shut). Bar staff are generally young good looking females - destracts you from the bar prices. The Landlady is hardly ever there. No atmosphere. BUT good kiddies area out the back. Good beer garden - Probably the best in BW. Bunch of Grapes:- An experience. They prices are high - they like it how it is! Crown:- It's got potential and sky sports ;-). But it does have a (now less smokey!) atmosphere of some description. White Swan:- Closed, and not missed. Priory:- Not bad. Could do a lot more with the kiddies area at the back. Real ale is MUCH better than it used to be. Food is value for money, if nothing else. The annual fun day is good (Mid July). Lacking a landlord/lady. Wine bar:- Makes a change, and makes-up the numbers in a pub crawl!
  • the CROWN all the way its the best pub goin, paul is an amazin landlord and we all luv him, and nic is amazing to! but sadly its the only decent pub in bw, its good because they dont take any shit and if ur underage dnt even try it unless u wana be made a fool of. u get all the regulars in there and there a great bunch off peps luv them all apart from a couple!
  • its got to be the crown all the way its the top spot in bw, although going to town is proberly a much better option if you are after a good night out with some great people come here, its got a great landlord (paul) who wont take shit from anyone. and if you are underaga dont even bother trying cause u wont stand a chance here.

  • The food was excellent at the priory
  • love the wine bar, especialy the large barman The Swan is cool and the landlord and landlady very welcoming
  • To drink at the Bunch of Grapes you had better take out a mortgage, but it is a nice pub. I found the staff rude at the Barleycorn, and although the staff were good at the Priory, it was lacking atmosphere. The Crown was loud a bustling, and had a good atmosphere, but i thinkthe winner for me is the White Swan. Its a small, badly decorated little pub, but wont find a nicer Landlord and Lady anywhere!! Everybody in this pub is there to have fun and enjoy themselves, which i think is what a good pub is all about. The White Swan is exactly what a local pub is all about.
  • Bunch of Grapes - full to brimming with loclas which is usually a good sign.
  • Bunch of Grapes but it's very small. The Priory but it's a bit of a blokes pub. If there's just a few of you, head for the wine bar and sit at the bar.
  • The Crown is THE Pub is Bishops Waltham. It has a good mix of age groups and has a excellent control of I.D. Nothing worse than feeling like you have just walked into a Youth Club! 'Old Les' is great to talk to, he knows everything you need to know about Bishops Waltham. If you are 'Remarkably young' you may wish to try the Barlycorn, the Priory, or the Swan- it seems you may have much more luck.

  • Hampshire Bowman at Dundridge. Great and rightly famous real ale pub; beer straight from the barrel(no gas). No music, no fizzy beer, no machines, no teenagers - great!
  • The Empty Pocket (aka The Barleycorn), this pub has been re-christened by me and a few mates as this is the sensation you feel upon leaving the establishment after consuming several pints of 'How Much'(Stella that isn't quite £3 a pint). If you care to travel a mile and a half to Durley you will find the best pub within a 10 mile radius of BW - The Robin Hood.
  • The Crown is the best pub ever!!!! If you want to have a good nite go there. But dont upset the Landlord Paul Dowsett, that would be a big mistake. The Barley Corn if you want the Land Lady to try and steal your boyfriend.
  • What can I say, if you want to be featured in the Guinness Book of Records for having paid the most amount of hard earned cash for a pint of Stella, go to the Barleycorn. Its odds on a pint will cost £3 by Christmas. Best pub in the area has to be The Robin Hood in nearby Durley, top beer, top food and a good atmosphere.
  • The Crown is a wicked place to drink!!!! Every one gets on with everyone. You have a mixed age group from 18 - 80. Every one should brave the 'Wild Turkey'(Tastes like Fire). If you can down it in 1 (Nick,Jeanette,Ian,Ollie, Lee,Paul),and your eyes don't pop out your(Old LES). Then you can handle your drink!!!!!This people of Waltham is a challenge!!!!!!
  • The Crown is NOT full of addidas wideboys, and screaming slappers. I am a very regular drinker in there. And since Paul Dowsett took over as Land lord, it is the only place to drink in Bishops Waltham!! To person that made the comment about Wide boys and slappers, I would love you to walk in the place and say that!!!!
  • The White Swan is crap. It really should close down
  • The Bunch of grapes over priced and undersized! The Social club is the place to be if your up for a good old punch-up. The White Swan is the last resort as your'll probably be the only customer in there, yes really it's that bad. The Priory Inn - If your names not down your not coming in - very clicky. The Crown - Most definately the most popular pub, entertqainment most weekends always packed on Fri, Sat night.
  • Many: The Crown; dive, no smoking, easy birds and townie lads. The Priory; as the crown, smoking permitted...rooms available/hour above. The Barleycorn; famillies, say no more. The White Swan; hmm...the mucky duck somewhat more fitting. The bunch of grapes; unless you're a farmer with one leg and a blind collie you won't fit in ("this is a local pub for local people"). The Wine Bar; hold of the slightly older slappers, and ponces perving on the waitresses. If you're under 13, your best bet is the bus shelter, always plenty of freindly blokes (peter lynch) more than willing to share their white lightning.
  • The Hampshire Bowman in Dundridge is actually the best pub in the world. If you like taste-free lager, conversation-killing music, wideboys in adidas and shieking teenage slappers then you really shouldn't go here. On the other hand, if you like award winning, decent beer, conversation with an amazing range of people, lots of friendly dogs warming themselves in front of the real fire and a cozy retreat from the media blitz that passes for modern life then you might have found your spiritual home; mobile phones are banned here! What else can I say about pubs in Bishops Waltham...the Bunch of Grapes is very nice, very small and very expensive. The Crown is full of wideboys in adidas and shrieking slappers, and yet is also very nice. Good bunch of people in Bishops Waltham generally, actually. The Barleycorn's probably the best place to go if you have a family; the White Swan's nowhere near as good as it used to be. The Priory's stuck out on its own and is slightly fake. Don't go near the Alma - it's a plastic pub. Uniforms! With your name on!
  • All pubs in the village are shit. Try going further afield, for example The Cricketers in Curdridge (ask Clifford to pull you a creamy one), or The Hampshire Bowman in Dundridge (home of the Portuguese Racing Sardine Club - honest).
