She allowed me to use her addy for contact with my home and family, but read all my emails. And then she got very upset with me over the last one that went to her addy as I got my family to stop sending emails and I telephoned home when needed. But those who read others mail deserve what ever meaning they choose to take out of it. She was so very wrong, and I do believe she is the cause of why I am not hearing from any of my family. In any case, I love Bishops Waltham and shall be returning in two years time hopefully with my son and we shall rent a car and look up our family once again and put things straight.England is so beautiful and lush with green, unlike most of Canada. I shall be retiring in your wonderful Country and purching a small cottage if possible. Thank you and please be proud of your Country.

I was very surprised to see how it is so much like the little town I grew up in, in the east coast of Canada. No wonder my Dad felt so at home there. I met 2 family members in Durley, but am disapointed that I only saw them for a very few hours,and was only given the address of one. More info on Merritt's of Bishops Waltham. It is my belief that my Grandfather had 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Their names and dates of birth are as follows. Peter Merritt born 1874, George Merritt born 1877, John Merritt born 1880 ( it is believed that he founded Merritt British Columbia Canada), all born in Bishops Waltham. Emily Merrett born 1883, Durley ? , Martha Merritt born 1886, Durley. Although I have never set foot in Bishops Waltham, my roots are from there. My father was a twin of two boys. He was born there in 1894. His father was William Merritt, his mother was Amy Hammond. They came to a very small town (Chatham. New Brunswick, in the east coast of Canada) They did not keep in touch with any family back in England. I have always wonder as to why, as a child I asked many questions, and received few answers. I am the youngest of 10 childern, and sadily now 4 of my siblings have passed on, and not one of us have ever been to England, shame on all of us. I have started a fund to visit Bishops Waltham and walk the streets that my Dad, his brother and parents walked. A few years ago I sent to the Tourist Bureau and received some pages from the local phone book which I had requested, and the only Merritt I could find was a P Merritt in Bishops Place. I am looking for my stepbrother who would be 56-57 yrs old now. During WWll, 1943-44, my father, Robert "Gordon" Cole, was stationed at Aldershot. While there he was a gunnar instructor in the Canadian Armored Corps. He would go into London on leaves and there he met a love. Her name possibly Emma, we are not quite sure on this.
