The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
- Whoever mentioned the fake empty people in Los Angeles could well have been writing about the inhabitants of Chichester, a stone's throw north of Bognor. That dump, and the surrounding villages, if filled with arrogant, obnoxious fakes with totally unjustified superiority complexes. They have no personality at all. Bunch of knobs.
- Mikes Music sucks and so do the staff. (Grumpy Saturday girl is the pits!!)
- Give the Newtown club a chance it has a capacity for over 100 people and cheapest alcahol in town. I think it just needs utilising differently.
- Bognor regis is the home of ROX. Rox is a music organisation that supports festivals, youth music, and can supply management and infrastructure for any event. It is also a registered charity See www.the-rox.com
- 1942-44, July/August school holiday period.
My father was stationed at a nearby airfield during this period & my mother, younger brother & sister stayed in accommodation in Bognor on two occasions.
One year a German bomber bombed Bognor during the day, can anyone remember when it was? I remember passing a bomb crater in the road and a house had all its shingles blown off it. On another occasssion, my brother & myself were able to access the beach. To indicate how old I was, I was born in 1935. Oh, by-the-way we had travelled from Yorkshire.
- go to chichester far far better
- I understand the Regis Centre may no longer be there anymore. Well if it's gone it doesn't suprise me. It was an artificial little place with bizarre characteristics and recti-linear oddities in terms of its style. The most sinister side of things was the quiet, malignancy of its piped music. You could listen as your life ticked away, as you pottered through its bar and looked at the different mug-shots of personalities, entertainers, musicians and freaks who had appeared there.
- I have lived in Bognor Regis all my life and when I was younger used to hate to admit that was where I was from, to the extent that whilst travelling in Australia if anyone asked I would say merely Sussex and if anyone dug a little more a town between Portsmouth & Brighton. Until the day that a lady in a small mining town in the middle of the desert, Coober Pedy, asked. I gave my usual spiel and after saying "..a town between Pompey & Brighton" she replied "Would that be near Bognor Regis?" a fellow Bognorian had passed through only the day before, not only that when the lady told me his name I'd gone to school with the bloke.
These days I'm proud to admit I come from Bognor and am sad to see that we're still the butt of other cities jokes. If the londoners like to make fun of us so much, why do they keep coming to visit on holiday?
- Wilber is a top chap and bananas are on special offer in tescos
- good smack dealers and nonses
- COMPLAINT: Please remove reference to "rudest barmaid in the world Maria no neck Gannaway" - your site states that nothing malicious or vindictive will be included which is obviously not so. Apart from being 10 years out of date since I have worked there, I originally took it in a form of fun which has now worn particularly thin. Having faced MUCH embarressment from this in the past, I no longer intend to do this as friends from accross the country have commented on it. I have copied a print of your site and if this has not been removed within 7 days with details of the originator passed to me (to investigate any other sites this has been sent to),I will contact my solicitor with instructions to sue for liable. I am sure that you will appreciate that if no acknowledgement of this is received within that timescale, there are means now to discover the originators of sites if computer literate, which I will endevour to do if no reply. Either way, my solicitor will be informed to act accordingly. M. Gannaway
- Where i'd like to live instead of bognor:
i want to move to a less violent town, maybee london (joke)
Also its impossible to get a jobin this town!!!!!
- Lived in Bognor until I was 21, then moved to Los Angeles.
Belive it or not, I sometimes miss Bognor and the people. In comparison, Los Angeles County is 4000 sqare miles and it's not quite so easy to take a quick walk to the pub. There are definitely benefits to living in a small town and it's nice to live in a place with people that you've grown up with, who know you as well as your own family. LA is beautiful, great weather, loads to do, but the people suck! No personality, no sense of humour, just fake empty people only interested in money and image. Bognor people are much more down to earth, better sense of humour and despite the often gloomy weather and lack of things to do, they always know how to have a good time.
- bogna needs a re vamp quick
- it is full of townees ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!
- King George V was right about Bognor.
- -retirement homes
- Te coppers who walk the town are the best.
- I was Gob-smacked, when i heard that " THE REX " was going to close. one of the best nights out - ever ! BOY ! do you remember the BAR..... it seemed to go on forever, when a little " oiled" you could look-up and see all the " twinkling" little stars !! A SHAME ! Blow - up the Regis center and re-build it I say !!
- Anagram of Bognor....fuckin' shit ridden. punch up on a Saturday night, wanna kill the poor white trash two along, as soon as I've got my degree I'm takin' the wife and kid and moving to Devon -(OK so I threw in a few extra vowels!!!)
- "Bognor Regis" officially is just 4 local government wards, of around 22,000 residents. But the Town/parish of Bognor Regis is not what most of us think of as Bognor Regis which is in fact five such mainly urban parishes which run from Middleton-on-Sea in the east, through Felpham, then Bognor Regis, then Aldwick (some of whose snobby residents disdain Bognor Regis in their postal address prefering "Aldwick near Chichester"), then Pagham in the West, with Bersted in the north. There is no gap between these parishes [but some would like e.g. border controls etc]
Most of us think of it all as Bognor Regis, but a minority (mostly those who are either snobs or who are on the various potty parish councils) insist these five parishes have an identity of their own. Most residents don't care, but my god if the Mayor of Bognor wears her chain of office in Aldwick - that's World War III. I suggested we need one Council for the whole five parishes (around 59,000 people) but was severely mauled in the attempt. Mind you I was sensitive to the "Bognor Wants to Take Us Over" Syndrome/Pathetic Moan so I devised a new name, after the esteemed founder of our noble Resort, Sir Richard Hotham. But "Hotham City" hasn't caught on for some reason.
- Its bizzare how the locals and the students don't ever talk..... thoughts of a University College Chichester student.
- Amazing cottaging down in the gardens opposite the beach with the beach huts. Cocks a go-go.
- Bognor is Gay and should be dug up and have Butlins buried beneath it along with Mr Nash the Mayor
- Hi Bognor, we love you, ex pats now living in the Big Apple.
- Comedian Ken Dodd has just given a morale boost to the cast of "Moon Over Bognor" currently about to start rehearsals for next year's Millennium musical.
Writing from Knotty Ash, Ken told the cast you must all have been working extremely hard and when it is your creation there must be all sorts of worries along the way.
He hopes Bognorians will have a wonderful celebration at the birth of the new musical. "My best wishes to all concerned. Thank goodness there are some creative people still around".
Creator of "Moon Over Bognor", Terry Kirtland writes. "We still need plenty of help, but it's going well". Those interested should E Mail Terry for further information tezza@hawthorn48.freeserve.co.uk
- My cousins, from Crawley, used to call Bognor "Boghole Regis"...cretins ! Although I left 34 years ago, after being born and raised there,I still love it.
We lived on Steyne Street...I went to Nyewood C. of E...and then Chi-Hi...I'd love to know if the Bognor Post is still alive and kicking.
Summer used to be one lazy swimming day after another...everything depended on the Tides...and heaven help us if we went on the raft anchored just by the esplenade. They used to have Razzle Dazzle shows there...
- Did you know that Bognor was used for all the sea-side scenes in the film of "The Leather Boys", but they called it Southend?
- Good? We have Butlins South Coast World which is the best place in Bognor Regis and there should also be a roller-skating park in the summer. Bad? There are too many old people, young people are the minority.
- My name is Jonathan. I lived in Bognor Regis all my life until I was 21, when I couldn't take it anymore and moved to London. I went to Bognor Regis Community College from 1980 to 1987. I was visiting my parents in Bognor at the weekend, and apart from a new pub where Sainsbury's used to be in the High street, very little has changed. One of my fondest memories of the town was the putting green in the Marine Park gardens. I used to spend many a long summer holiday trying to perfect my "up and over the bump" technique. Later on, the seclusion of the gardens became a good adolescent hanging out spot. If anyone likes the beaches around Butlins, then they should head west and visit the sandy, breakerless strips that lie off Aldwick. Look out for rocks though!
- As a former resident of Bognor I particularly enjoyed the rocks down Dark Lane in Aldwick. Unfortunately I think the sea washed over them. But never mind. The field I used to play in was built over as well. Anyway, the best thing was Nyewood Junior School and the beach and the worst was the fact that Bognor was quite boring.
- My name is Ajit Korgaokar and I used to live in Bognor Regis. That sounds like a line from an introduction to alcoholics anon. Anyway you're right, Bognor is boring, but after being away for so long I still miss it. I live in Nashville, Tennessee USA, and I would have to say it is much more exciting than Bognor. What does that say for poor old Bognor? Oh well I still loved to go back and see how Bognor's football team are doing.
- I have lived in Bognor Regis for just over six years. When I first moved there the town did match up to its depressed reputation! I think that the town has improved loads over the last few years, I mean if the IRA think it's worth bombing it can't be that bad? Can It? I would agree with the point about too many old people! There are hundreds of them in Bognor! Although I live in Bognor I go to college in Chichester. If anyone want to e-mail me (!?) go ahead... MSeager@inetgw.chichester.ac.uk P.S. Bognor Is Best!
- I live in nearby Chichester, and Bognor does have its uses, as long as you find some way to shield Chi. I Think Bognor would make a very good alternative site for the French to use in their Nuclear Test Programme! It is perfect: no atmosphere, close to the sea, and few people (of significance!). So I say "Nuke the place!" All in all, Jolly good fun! Mail me at Tau@inetgw.chichester.ac.uk [Strong requests to remove this from a friend of Tau, who happens to live in Bognor. Also promises: "If you remove the entry on Nuclear testing on Bognor, I will re-think my lifeplan and be very nice to the elderly in the future." What does the panel think?]
- Pinehurst Park is a cool place to live.
