I’m looking for members of 60s Beat/mod/R&B/Soul and even Psychedelic bands from Sussex and the South Coast area’s during the years 1961 -1967.

I’m interested mostly in hearing your stories, seeing pictures and hopefully you may have old acetate demos, (or if you were one of the lucky groups who actually managed to record a 45)... It would be so fantastic if you would contact me and maybe contribute a song or two to my compilation LP project.

What got me into wanting to make this LP was when I managed to purchase a copy of Horsham’s The Beat Merchants debut 45 ‘Pretty Face’ on Columbia. It made me think that surely there were other bands from the area that never got as lucky as The Beat Merchants.

If you were in a band from the 60s and were based in East or West Sussex please feel free to contact me and reminisce to me about your times in the 60’s.

Because if I have enough material I may even try and write a column for 60’s beat magazine Shindig about the Sussex & South Coast BEAT SCENES.

I moved away from Bognor in 1968 bound for Eastbourne further along the coast, and have been here ever since. I was in the 3rd year when i left, does anyone remember? My best friend at the time was Gilbert White who used to live in Lyon Street, but I also remember Robert Enticknapp (??), Adrian Keen (who's dad had a shop on the corner of Lyon Street). I can remember that I used to have a form te acher called Mr Burrows and that my maths teacher used to be Mr Meggitt. My sister also used to go there she was called Teresa and was 2 years older than me. Other names i vaguely remember from my class are Lesley Warren, she was great mates with another Lesley ( can't remember her surname though) Howard Baker (I think),Jim Dempster (??) and Adrian Saunders (??). Very sketchy I know but if anyone reads this from around that time and remembers me it would be great to hear from them. For the record I'm visiting for a week in August and am going to look up the old school, so was quite dismayed when I heard it was going to be demolished and that I had missed the recent open day that they held there. I left William Fletcher in 1945, it was formerly known as Westloats Lane School....for Boys on one end, and for Girls on the other...with Junior school in the centre. When I left school I worked for Longford Engineering...obviously on Longford Road..From there I joined the R.N. having been recruited at the Brighton Recruiting Office....two of my friends joined with me...Brian Smith who live in Steyne Street,#53, I think; and Sid Harvey who lived at #1 Steyne Street...I don't know where Brian ended up, but Sid died by my side in Beamsville Hospital, Ontario, about ten years ago or it could be more...Sid's sister Christine passed away a few years after Sid, in Alberta.If anyone knows us or wants to get in touch...please do. There's a Dantes reunion happening in Bognor on November 28 and I was hoping that someone would have some photos of happenings at this time at Dantes or any of these bars. People I hung out with were basically mostly from Chichester, Rick Smith, Paul Thrower, Ian Linfield, Mickey Isgar, Graham Apps, hmmm Keith Lloyd-Jenkins, Roland Day, Mark Bone, Deb Lucas, Jo Murphy, Deb Reynolds, Gill Woodcock . I am working on a project of putting together a compilation LP entitled “60s Savages from Sussex and The South C oast”.
