• The winter of 1963, weather so cold, it was warmer at the south pole. Look up the records if you do not believe.One mad, may have been more than one, person. Made headlines in the Standard, driving down the Witham from Lincoln. Ice 8 feet thick, about average for the youths around the town at that time. Ice flows jamming the locks at sluice bridge for weeks. I thinnk that the army had to blow the ice to allow the river to drain. OR,,OORR,OOOORRR, what about the floods of 1953, the river topping the wall over the bank at the top of Fydell street, this lead to the river defences being modernised not long after. Think about it. The rise from low to high tide topped 50 feet. Unheard of since.
