The Best Things in Burnham on Sea, Somerset*

If you're around, be sure to check these things out

The Best Things
  • i think how good you think burnham is is relative to where you live yourself. Having lived there all my life I can see why people complain, especially teenagers as there is not much to do. However as a holiday destination from a city I can see why it appeals. It has a clean blue flag beach and is a great place for little kids with Brean and Weston super Mare a short drive away.
  • Having just moved to Burnham in January I've found the people (locals) very friendly. The new hair salon (BoS Hair I think) on Pier Street, run by an American so it's always just nice to go in and listen to her accent...they also stock my fave Paul Mitchell products and make a great cup of coffee!!
  • Carnival - it's a marvel that such a big spangly thing happens in such a small place! Cut price Clarks shoes (if that floats your boat) Cheap parking, should you wish to stay a while.....
  • Cycling - it's VERY flat around here! Walks along the Sea Front and South Esplanade. October when most of the holidaymakers have gone home.
  • my mum
  • The fact that the M5 goes practicly through it making it really easy to leave.
  • Fresh air - lots of it! Ability to forecast local weather - If you can see Wales from Burnham you know its going to rain; if you can`t see Wales its raining already! Its twinned with somewhere abroad that`s not too hard to pronounce (just hard to remember who it is!)
  • I know this website is "supposed" to be tounge in cheek and "fun", but having just read the authors opinion of BoM, I am wondering if its worth cancelling the holiday I have booked as the place now sounds really dull. The author describes nothing worth eating but fish and chips, and now it sounds like I cannot let my kids into the Sea for fear of catching something. It also sounds like BoM is full of little gits with nothing better to do but hang around. Can someone please tell me about the good things in BoM or should I take my money to another place, that IS worth visiting?
  • The laid back attitude of most of the residents, politeness and manners are in abundance. Old and young live together, not literally, but side by side in perfect harmony.
  • the best street entertainment, when i were young, was watching the oldies and grockles trying to park in the high st during a summer saturday morning, and watching out for babes, on the changover day whilst working at the holimarine holiday camp, some were hotter than others.
  • Walking along the high street and crossing whilst a cyclist is going the wrong way down the 'one way' bit. You can claim ignorance and have a right laugh as he hits the tarmac with his front gnashers!!
  • It's a laid back sort of a place and a must if you get off on charity shops.
  • The best thing was having so many pubs within walking (walking? more like staggering...) distance from our house. Not too many clubs while I was there - just the Carousel Club in the High Street above the Amusement Arcade - good for after pub hours if you couldn't be bothered to go to Weston or Taunton!!
  • Beach parties used to happen at least once a year but I'm going back in time about 10 years in my reference to those social events - huge gatherings of people and bands near the Burnham and Berrow Golf Club (actually on one of the greens during one rather large party if i remember correctly!). Even though I no longer live there I must admit I still think of it as home...what do you think of it?
  • Loads of beer festivals?
  • The beach was so much fun, never really went swimming, but roamed the dunes and "played war" a lot. I'm old enough to remember "The Burnham Flyer" and would wait to watch it go by heading to and from Highbridge
