families by Patricia Burgess (Member 10219121) on 2-Apr-2008
Re my last post, I don't know any more about my grandparents, but with some digging I have come up with "Cocks' barrows" Waterloo Road Camberwell. Aparently, according to a cousin in England, these are still in existence. Any info would be greatfully appreciated, and even better, if I could get an email address

If I remember right Waterloo Road was a very short road from Lomond Grove to Camberwell green, it was locally known as 'Waterloo Market', it was the old fashioned traditional market with market stalls which were known as 'barrows', there was actually a family called 'Cox' who run a Fruit & Veg Barrow in this market - it all fits.

    Hello
The name is "Cocks" - daughters of one of the owners are good friends of mine, I am still intouch with them. I was in camberwell earlier this year (from USA) family still there - and walked through what was Waterloo St. which doesn't exist anymore.

  • Re: families by John Harding (Member 10232757) on 17-Oct-2008
The name Pat Burgess seems familiar. Did you go to Brunswick Park School? If not however, I can join in mourning for the old Waterloo Street and its market. I used to go with my mother to her shopping, and was sometimes given the task of bringing the Sunday joint home on Saturday from the butcher's where it had been kept in the cold-room. The memory of the stalls, Cater's grocer's, the little ... more >>

If anybody has photo of waterloo market at Camberwell that would be great. Also can anybody remember the name of the florist opposite Kembers the chemist.

  • Re: families by barbara (harris) Whitlock (Member 10005688) on 20-Oct-2008
Yes, and Caters - remember the broken biscuit selection? We couldn't afford the whole ones!! Pat Burgess...familiar to me too, but I didn't go to Brunswick....she might have lived close by - I was in the Lomond Grove area.

As for pictures of Waterloo St.....I can poke about in some of my little booklets, whatever see what I can come up with.

The Flower shop...errm.....can see it, can't re... more >>

Was the florist named Finneys it seems to ring a bell but I could not be certain, My family were from Lomond Grove in the 1930s until the slum clearance of the early 1960's. I also lived there in the early 1970's.

my grandparents by Patricia Burgess (Member 10219121) on 6-Jan-2008
I am trying to find our more about my grandparents, Walter Herbert Caddock and Clara Augusta Caddock.
Walter had a street of stalls, fish, fruit and veg etc. would have been the mid 1950's. We moved to NZ in 1952, and as far as I know, he was still going then.
We lived in flats in Stockwell Park Road, and I was born in St Georges Way

Further to my last post, talking to my mum today, grandmother's maiden name was Clara Augusta Cocks, so would be interested in following that lead also.

    Hello again June.
Im afraid I may hahve mis-lead you.Mosedale Street is no longer there. The last time I went back it had turned into blocks of house/apartments for the elderly I think.
I was there from 1944 (A year old) I lived at No 33.
