• Please support the Protect Our Pool campaign. We are trying to stop the Council demolishing the paddling pool on the beach. Please sign the petitions there is a kids petition as well as one for adults and look out for all the posters giving details of meetings. We cant let them take away every bit of Canvey Island.
• As someone from outside Essex and now living here I can say that Canvey is no better and no worse than Southend or any other town in Essex you care to mention. True some bit, or bits, maybe a little better or worse but the overall effect is the same. A town with a local council that only cares about keeping it's job and not keeping the community happy defines most towns across England why should Canvey be any different?
• The Beach in Summer is surprisingly full of fitties. Many a bent walking moment as a young boy...

• Canveys mainly full of narrow minded twats and townies. That spend there time pointing and laughig at anything diffrent.Ive lived here(mainly here) all my life and im now 14. In simple terms canveys plagued with idoits that have the interlect of a kerb stone, maybe im being harsh as im sure there must be life out there some where. The local council are corrupt and are reasponsible for over development,lining thier own pockets and provding nothing of any interest to waste time doing. Ill shut up now.

I would like to say to all those of you who only have NEGATIVE things to say about Canvey and its residents that you guys are all narrow minded, predujice filled, small lived people who need to open their eyes once in a while and see what Canvey really is about! 'In-breeding'!!!...oh plurrreeease...can't you even think of something ORIGINAL to taint and tarnish us with??? Yes Canvey is dull for teenagers and the like and yes Canvey may not be the "Saufend" of Essex, (but quite frankly I don't want an amusement arcade and a job lot of crime and all the lovely things that go into the same catogory as Southend)BUT Canvey is full of people who have managed to build homes and lives and communities and friendships around what all you narrow minded twits call a "Shite-hole" and "Dump"! Canvey people are (in general) friendly, welcoming and NON-JUDGEMENTAL of their fellow peers and are happy to welcome you in their homes for a cuppa any time of the day. They appreciate having to travel to do anything decent (no trains on the Island so you have to drive to Benfleet!....but Benfleet is only 35 MINS by train to London!!) and are willing to put themselves out when need be! In return us CANVEY INBREEDS as you so lovingly call us have probably bonded and have more sense of community than anywhere else near here! So I would like to personally THANK all of you people who have contributed to putting Canvey in a negative light, because... if it wasn't for all you lovely people I wouldn't have bought a lovely BIG detatched house here a while back for a price that you would NEVER get anywhere else locally, and you know the reason....well its that good old Canvey stigma that you guys have attached to us lot! I live in a place that is beautiful and if I want to escape the "DUMP" that is classed as Canvey...well I'm only half hour away from London by train so I get the best of both worlds! CHEERS!

• i'm 17 years old and i have lived on canvey most my life.when your a kid canvey is a great place to play in and explore. when i was 14 up to 16ish the front, wooden park, and da padocoks (sorry if misspelled) were the place's to be. the school to go to was and is cornelius. BIG UP TO BATES,AYSA and PAT. from the bloke who really wants a monkey.

• Sports Clubs on Canvey. Canvey Island Swimming Club @ Waterside Farm Leisure Centre during the week and every Sunday evening from 5.30p.m
• Furtherwick Park are not scum...... not as individuals.... i should know.

• SORRY BUT THERE IS A CINEMA HERE. AT THE SEA FRONT. NOT LARGE, BUT GOOD ENOUGH. SHOWS THE LATEST FILMS. FAIRLY NEW, CLEAN, AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST EXCELLENT STAFF. CANVEY IS GETTING BETTER. JUST THE ROAD SITUATION NEEDS SORTING URGENTLY!
• Canvey is a cool place to live, People who are not from Canvey slat it but people from canvey love it.
• tolerant attidude to dope in most pubs and clubs - don't skin up in the conservative club though

• Southend was missed of NATO's hit list purly because shite would be spread everwhere and contaminate surrounding area's and area's of natural beauty like Canvey

• Theres definately some kind of force field that keeps Canvey people from wondering further afield (e.g. to Benfleet!) it seems that once a resident you must eat, live, breathe, work and talk Canvey! Somebody help us!!! the men are nothing to write home abou either!

• Never been to Canvey before has a poor reputation but was pleasantly surprised. Million times better than Leysdown on Sheppey.

• The Oysterfleet Hotel is the place to go. Have recommended it to 4,000 of my closest friends and they are all coming in the Spring. Good looking staff, book early because there are only 16 rooms. Chef is from Spain and the food is exquisite. The music in the evening is "cool" by British standards, but Americans will love it too! It is owned by Brian White whose family has apparently been builders on Canvey Island for quite some time.
• Best Shop - Woolworths
• Worst Shop - Hills Electrical - it has been there for centuries, and no-one ever shops there, but it is still in existence! Amazing.
• It's got a shit road system - with only one roundabout which you everyone has to pass to get onto or off the island...
• I was one of those skateboarders who protested to get that metal ramp built around 89. We hated it then and the idiots who built it. I live on Canvey and it's ok. Knowhere to go at night though, if you're young. The nearest cinema is Southend or Lakeside. Me and my friends all frequent SaksII bar which has a much better attitude than the Haystack.

• The Dr Feelgoods music bar which was knocked down (sucks) but had some great bands on at the time.
• The Soon to be famous band Whoremoan (I'm in the band) - we have a page which lists local gigs.
• Places to avoid. Emilys bar. The Town (full of OAP's)
• Must see's: The beach in the summer (full of overweight smoking sut tan lotion covered holiday makers)
