Arts, crafts and such in Cardigan, Ceredigion*

Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.

You can tell us more about Cardigan.

Arts, crafts and such
  • There's no public art gallery as such where ANYONE can walk in and feel comfortable as you can in larger towns and cities. The galleries in Cardigan are cliquey and arty farty.
  • Pendre Arts is not wonderful, it's for middle class nobs and they who won't even take a look at your art if you haven't got an art degree or haven't studied under a trendy, well known art lecturer. Another pretentious outlet adding to the list of ever growing, out of touch establishments popping up around Cardigan, catering to the well heeled, trendy middle classes who are moving into the area and turning it into their playground.
  • Pendre Arts is a wonderful gallery with the most beautiful paintings, ornaments and jewellery. It also has an extremely tempting smelling coffe shop.

  • loads of these, custom house expensive there's the posh Italian one in the high st that also sells coffee and another coffee & art shop up the Tesco end oh and Gandalf's Garden for yer naff ethnic furnishings art supplies from Mike's Pound Shop in Chancery Lane and stalls in the Market.
  • Flopsy Designs is a nice, friendly stall in the upper market opposite the automatic doors selling handmade cards. They're a bit different from the usual "stick a bit of mulberry paper and twisty wire in the middle" type of card. The bloke who sells the cards doesn't mind having a chat either, he'll talk about anything from maths to music!
  • there is loads of art in our town, graffiti mainly, the sk8 park has shait graffiti but the best is b osian shed and co. a.k.a osians shed and co.
  • Check out Custom House down that side road. they've got some really cool stuff in there. a tad expensive though...
  • some good local artists...often have joint showings at Theatre Mwladan gallery.
  • THE ONLY ART I HAVE FOUND I CAN DO, IS TO GET RAT ARSED, EVADE THE POLICE,BUY THE WIFE SOME CHOCS, AND WHEN TOMMY ASKS ME WHAT IAM UPTO WITH HIS WIFE, AND I REPLY "MY BOLLOCKS AT THE MOMENT" AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WINDOW CATCH THE LAST BUS AND GET HOME IN TIME FOR TEA. AND WAKE UP IN THE MORNING, WITHOUT A HANGOVER.
  • Phoenix Art shop, just off Priory street is really good. They are very friendly, helpful and open to idea's. Prices are cheap too . Give them a go . If no-one supports these younger people to support their new businesses, how will Cardigan ever have new life breathed in to it.
  • Whoever wrote the bit about the local artists, get your facts straight and remember Cardigan is a very small place..... paople concerned will know who you are and watch this space for "useful" information on how often you lock your house etc..... oh and FUCK OFF!
  • ELGAN
  • Local artists include, Andie Clay, Clare Jury and Robin Holtom. The latter is an extremely arrogant and egotistical person. I can't disclose where he lives, but what I can tell you is that he goes away forlong holidays and leaves his house unlocked. Included in his own personal collection are original paintings by David Hockney and Andy Warhol.
  • There's loads of stuff down in the market, from cushions, a mini florist, welsh fabric, welsh photos to Nirvana and Catatonia t-shirts. It's great, if you have the money you're sure to pick up something nice. Two good shops that I know of are 'Meadow Sweet' and Siop Y Castell' they have lots of gifts and souvenirs especially welsh and celtic books and ornaments.
  • Decent gallery in the back street between the Tivyside and the bakers at the top of the main street who's name I have forgotten. Lots of local crafts, some of which is pretty good - a lot of crafts people seem to emigrate to West Wales.
