- some of the people are arse holes (D Jarvis)but go to the better pubs and avoid them.(kings head ,sportsman.)because on the whole the people of Carlisle are spot on.
- The people from here. And the people from outside who understand the people from here!
Good history, and a city that has moved with the times in the face of adversity.
- Apart from the motorway, a train heading south or east and my house, erm, im struggling.
- Carlisle is the best thing about Carlisle
Friendly people
Not EVERYONE is a scally, believe it or not
Nice buildings
Nice City Centre
Lots of shops (for somewhere of its size)
The Lanes
- when i left to go to America to work all summer

- One of the newsagents used to sell Dairy Milk Quick bars, and Morrison's salad bar.
- One of the newsagents used to sell Dairy Milk Quick bars, and Morrison's salad bar.
- Its clean and tidy, more shops than you will ever need, loads of characters
and everyone asks if your alright/
- That Chris Davidson bloke, Gosh he`s such a Charver....
- THAT CHRIS DAVIDSON CHARVER HE`S A TOP BLOKE, TRUST ME...
- Getting to try out the latest chocolate bars and drinks on the consumer market, which is 'Only Available in Carlisle'(can be seen on most commercials you've never seen before).
- it has to be the people -It's such a friendly place, if youre from out of town the locals will go out of their way to be hospitable and get you to join in with all the fun and local customs such as fighting, smashing windows, pie peas and gravy
- Being close to the Lake district and northumbria,Newcastle,Liverpool,Manchester,Glasgow,Edinburgh.Alot of history.
- You always know someone --- although you can't get away with anything on a night out! The accent is both cool and the people are funny. (who said that Liverpool is the funniest city, I'm sure that its Carlisle!)
- Small but lots to see and do.Good nightlife for all ages.
- Small but lots to see and do.Good nightlife for all ages.
- The Fire starters: Jenna Laverick, Claire Lowther. and botch support of the zone at maximes (in wigan) and tony graham (zone DJ).
- Pulling out onto the M6, knowing that I'd never have to live there again.
- Hadrians wall built to keep out the the bloody Scots
- Near Penrith
- As a Southerner as you'd all say (Wigan) I'm utterly pleased to spend twenty quid on a train journey just to get up there, stop slagging Carlisle off! I reckon it's one of the best cities in the country, and I've travelled- try coming to the industrial melting-pot that is Manchester and surrounds! Oh yeah, the people are pretty nice too. Especially the hippy at the railway station.
- Sign saying your leaving Carlisle
Freedom (new nightclub till 2am)
Mood (new nightspot till 1am
- Trinity School, Very friendly people, beautiful, compact town centre. Take it from me as someone brought up in Carlisle and now lives in London - you don't know what you've got Carlisians. Stop slagging yourselves and Carlisle off - with a bit of thought and effort by you all it could be a super-cool place. It has its own Radio and TV stations, an art college, great architecture and countryside - do something with it instead of moaning!!!
- BEING THE GATEWAY TO THE NORTH IT MAKES CARLISLE A CITY FOR DRUGS. U WAN IT THEY GOT IT!
EVERYONE LOVES TO PARTY HERE
- Generally friendly people, no attitudes compared to big city people
- A clean, tidy place.
Rickerby Park, a lovely open space, but mind the perverts in the chinese gardens
- A while ago you might remember that Richardson street was cunningly canged to read
Hard on street. this is all down to me. There are 4 signs for the street, and I changed them all.
Also you might remember a giant green penis painted on the road between carlisle and
Aikton, I also take full responsibility for this act of vandalism.
- There are some?
- its pretty, bitts park, art college, trinity school (and all who went there!) pubs, clubs, shops its near glasson (funky little village!)
- pretty round cathedral and castle
ever changing town centre
friendly people
- That no matter where you go in the city youwill allways bump in to somebody you know
- Cheese pasties @ Carlisle College
- Mike's tattoos on Botchergate, the best piercing and tattoing place in the country!!
every 1 knpows everyone (could be bad or good)
- are none
- It's not so small that there's NOTHING going on, but it's small enough so that everyone knows everyone and there's a friendly la'l scene.
- Nice buildings and lots of trees and good parks!
- Great place to be a student (I went to the art college) although it's not obvious at the time. Clean, friendly, compact and open city, although with a definate "Royston Vasey" atmosphere. Lots of independent shops you don't get elswhere.
- Just the whole place. Moved here in 1968 and have stayed. Why move?
- None - carlisle is an isolated dump - generally best to avoid staying there for anytime. Cumbria has nicer countryside why would anyone want to go to Carlisle?
- The chip shops
The accents.
The BIG CHIMNEY!
- 'Crappy' Scottish notes in Carlisle? One GREEN Scottish one pound note is very easily mistaken for an English Five pound note down south. Also good for causing arguments with southern shop owners who try not to accept it.
- Location - can travel to Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool for a proper night out.
- Castle, Cathedral and Trinity School
- I like the way that you can go out one week and the same people will be out the next week - this is the beauty of living in a small city!
Pubs - there is a huge choice of pubs in the city - from your old man local in the suburbs to your younger style pubs in the city. Although you do get a wide range of ages in all the pubs in the city.
- The busker from outside Barclays!
- It's in Cumbria, the most beautiful county in England, no buts.
- It's the home of the famous Carlisle United. E-Mail the owner of the Carlisle United homepage, Phil Jones : jonespm@aston.ac.uk
- Southerners are nearly at Scotland if you've got this far
- The best thing about Carlisle is the lack of southeners, however other points of interest include a pub which featured on the Cook Report for people dealing in birds eggs and firearms.
- The Best thing about Carlisle has to be the Fish and Chip Shop in Botcherby, followed closely by CFM, this is the newish local Commercial Radio service on 96.4FM, quite cool, especially the Mike Charlton phone in on Sunday Nights between the hours of 10 00 and 1 00. Watch out for Gareth the Gob, he is a bit of mouth!!!!
- The best thing about Carlisle is the fact that know one south of Birmingham knows were it is and so I can take great delight in telling them that they are absolute fools and southern softies.
- Anybody south of Penrith is a southerner. The pie & pea shop on Botchergate at 3 in the morning.
- A Good Night Out: Get yourself down to the Turf Tavern for about 9pm and get yourself thoroughly innebriated on Pedigree (cheap and moderately pallatable) at around 11pm, try and get hold of a Twisted Wheel Summer/Winter savers pass, and get yourself to the Wheel for a good all night fest. Alternately, you could go on on to the Page where they have cracking quiz game machines, cracking Voka nights (50p a shot), cool atmosphere and above all... they do food (I personally recommend all the house soups and the garlic bread is well nice - that's only if you're an ugly person and you don't think you're going to score... or if you're a couple and you don't care!) Anyway, there's a lot to do.
- Stella Artois on draft in the Turf, racing sad boys in Escorts.
- CUMBRIA HAS SOME OF THE BEST ROADS IN ENGLAND FOR HAVING A BLAST ON YOUR MOTORBIKE. IF YOU LIKE SCRATCHING THEN YOU WILL ENJOY ALSTON.
- Carlisle United Football Club Stanwix Its not Bolton
