- I remember the talk of the border, saw black lace...I was pissed...also saw mud playing there to....was jigging it good style to tiger feet
- THE TWISTED WHEEL
- Hi, Reading some of the comments with reference to Carlisle Night Life brought it back to me a little and was SO Pleased to see an entry for the Stars and Stripes (Rock Nite). Pleased because I was the DJ for Rock Nites in Carlisle for around 14 years playing at the Stars and Stripes, Legends, The Wheel and the Pagoda. Oh do I miss those nights. In the early days of the Stripes (Kreeps) it was a fantastic night out, much more of a club than what is available right now, it was a place to meet up with friends and have a really good night out, none of this getting so drunk you can't stand up kind of thing and wanting to take on the world and his army. May be times have changed, but with regards to someones comment here, YES Carlisle really could do with another Stars and Stripes. There have been recently in 2007 an odd night here and there, one recently at the Brickyard, although the crowd wasn't huge it was a decent night all the same but Carlisle does lack a home for the avid Rock Nite fan. To answer another comment re "Big Les" Griffiths, he's still alive and well, I worked for Les for some years, a good guy. He's recently put on a couple of Rock Nites, The Whitehouse, Golden Lion and the Brickyard (although he seemed absent on the night). I miss the DJ'ing I have to say. I'm currently stocking up on my music to hopefully this year make somewhat of a comeback, so you never know, Carlisle may one day again have a Rock Nite for all the deserving fans of Rock Music. Watch this space as they say. Mainmanmark (Mark Britton)
- Fats - Bar with Extreme Sports on TV continuesly. Acoustic nights on Mondays, other nights are mostly dance/house music. Pool table, popular place. Never any trouble.
- Hi all to the oweners or management of any club in Carlisle myself and few friends went to Dontinoes @ Hexham little bit of an out dated club. But we have to say the Dj was fantastic he has this well dont know what to call it an ability to naturally please any crowd had the best time we all wish we could get a dj in Carlisle as he would surlely have the punters coming back week after week he is fantastic. There is loads of comments about him on knowhere guide for Hexham he has left an e-mail for people wanting a particular song it is Martin.a.Taylor@mtagt56.plus.com me and my friends are now going to Dontinoes once a month on the last Saturday this guy is the bollocks excellent. Love ya Matt from the Carlisle girls
- Mood has a good age mix. If you are over 30 you dont feel like you should be home in your slippers. Good music. Gets very busy at weekends.
- mood, the lizard
- Fats, early week before they play dance music. The Wheel at XS, mON, wEDS, fRI. And Goth nites wherever they are....
- UrbanNatives UrbanNatives UrbanNatives UrbanNatives UrbanNatives UrbanNatives
- On Buskers upstairs dancefloor
- well theres lloyds bar, jumping jacks but the best place in town for a propa groove is xs!!!!!!!!
- xs - x press, the cresh, egg n cress. a feel enough sed from the thurd statment !¬
- the lovely front page- pre facelift- that slimy pole in the middle of the downstairs dancefloor and the nice dj with the crazy curly hair! Also the twisted wheel- scruffy but cool!
- The Front Page was the place to be till it closed down. It had alternative music n a bit of rnb down stairs. It was 50p vodka on thursdays. There was nothin bad bout this place. Was dingy and mingin tho but that was all part of the charm
- The Village (used to be Buskers) is new, same management as Robertsons and a couple of others. Gone for the same look as Robertsons, but a calmer atmosphere earlier in the evenings. Wouldnt recommend for much more than just a plain night though. XS has gone downhill, the old Wheel is dirt cheap - where Legends used to be. Jumpin Jaks down Botchergate not been yet, wife beat us to it on my stag night so I was steered to the Village. Concrete under the solicitors on Lowther St, meant to be a good spot, not great though.
- The Wheel is now open on Wednesdays and Fridays, at the Lizard Lounge part of'XS'. Alternative music, and rather good.
- I know everyone hates the Purple Lizard Lounge but other then the Brickyard it's the only half decent place to go at the mo and its just a substitute while the Wheel is getting sorted. Ok, so the DJ plays the same songs in the same order every week...but the drinks are cheap and as it's free entry you can get pissed off a tenner and i can go in there and bump into loads of people i know! Everyone who keeps slagging it off should shut up and find somewhere else to go!
- Moods, Botchergate. Club Excess West Walls, Jumping Jacks, Botchergate.
- club xs & mood r spot on
- the origional buskers before the fire, when you could walk right round the bar.
- XS IZ DA PLACE 2 BE ON WEST WALLS
- guild kicks ass, good place to pull but it never works, you can play the air guitar on your back on the dance floor and no one gives a fuck
- The Wheel was one of the few places where the alternative crowd can go.
Never seen ANYONE under 17 in there. Self-mutilators are in short supply, and if someone wants to do that that's their business.
And speaking as the honorary student, they ought to re-open the Cumberland 'Studentland' Bar on Botchergate. The Upstairs bit. Students only, they'd play at least one track on any CD bought in (time allowing), and cheap drinks.
And no old farts except the weird one who was 34 , and quite, quite, mad.
That was me.
- Carlisle is pure bangin´ man!! XS is our hottest clubbin´ sensation so divn´t diss it man like eh??? It maybe doesn´t compare to gud old Camping La Siesta´s pub in Spain, cos it hasn´t got a gud bit of spanish and argentinian buttifara de pais!! but its da next best fing!! aiiiii bo selcta banzai! so all u dat diss XS wisht man hoiny and shut ur mouth cos ur breath stinks of cheese!!!!
- Duh... The Twisted Wheel!! Sposed 2 b closin soon - DAMMIT, save THE WHEEL. Go soon n check it out. Not if yer a trendy tho....
- Pagoda - as it was then and the Front Page! brilliant especially when you sneak in with half a bottle of vodka, not the next morning though!
- Jacksons
Club XS
- All shie, XS is hell.
- The front page is always a laugh thanks to its youthfull regulars it's just like a sixth form party and the bottles are only a quid on student night so can't be bad. Try Monday's "drink the bar dry" supposedly every drinks a quid. XS is a better club but it's either a belta or pure crap.
- legends and the wheel went down hill when John Prat took over and Emma left (was there a link,i think so.).the page is run by a man you wouldn`t let run a girls school.buskers smells of piss but a good place to pick up a teenager(boy or girl).Moods has the dumbest doormen and worst clientel.the Whitehouse is just rough (ladies included)
- ok dere is a new club n its fukin mint excess on west walls. n as 4 buskers i think its spot on and dont foget fats dats also da place to be.
- Mood (on Botchergate) was quite an amusing place to visit as an ex-pat! Why? Because it has got to be the one place in the whole world (apart from Caracus Venezuela) where the male population is outnumbered by the female by about 5 to 1!
That doesn't necessarily make a good night though. Some of the things you see in there would be better exhibited in a glass case! Still worth a visit just to make yourself feel good!Or if the idea of venereal disease appeals to your warped mind.
- Freedom, formerly Pagoda, is now shut after the owner spat his dummy after he was on the receiving end of an attack from one of the many retards his club happily admits. Funny how he never gave a sh*t when anyone else got hurt.
- BUSKERS IS SHITE THE BOUNCERS THINK THEY R ALL IN AND AS FOR THAT STEVE CROOKS HE IS THE INSTIGATOR THEN HIDES BEHIND EVERY ONE I WOULDNT RECOMMEND NE1 GOIN TO THAT SHIT HOLE
- there is a night club in carlisle called XS but me and my mates can never fined it on the net there was meant to be a web page on it it has be up and running for a bit now it used to be legegens
- Go to Freedom if you want young girls and lollipop flavour pussy.
- Carlisle must have the worst nightlife in the country so don't bother going out. If you must Buskers has great dance music but its small and full of inbred people who go every week.
- How about adding some info on well known d.j.'s from around the clubs of Carlisle....I was one once, D.J. TRICKY (BUSKERS ABOUT 5 YEARS BACK)Now i'm running a club in the Middle-east since 1998.
- List...
The Page (OK, The Front Page, Jacksons, whatever. Clientele EXTREMELY young - i.e. young enough to be on David Jacksons hard drive)
Buskers (if you are v. sad/scally)
Club XS (new and rather cool)
A few others.
- Well what can i say! iv lived in this dump for about 13 yrs, and its become torture now, Carlisle is just full of sheep! first Buskers night club, yeh it was a good club until Mood opened then Buskers went down hill and ended up being an Ibiza night!, iv gotto say Mood will always have its good customers. but as soon as Freedom opened, yeh it was a top club, but people got bored and went back to Buskers. But as soon Club xs opened now, Buskers has gone down hill again and is only open for little tini boppers!, but im telling you this now people, club xs will rub off on you and you'll get bored, like with the rest of the places, every one knows Buskers will always be the place to be!
- Freezed at The Page http://www.freezed.co.uk
- The wheel is the only decent place, mood is ok, both of these copntain legal customers, which is always good, freedom and buskers are full of 13 year olds
- The twisted wheel!! U guys knock it? But have u been? I've once seen a 16 year old in there, normally less than 17 is rare. I'm 18 and have been id-ed there a few times, tho now they know me. It's good music, good dance floor, good people. Okay so they don't dress mainstream, but so?? And skinheads????? There's about....2. Some ppl are wannabies but mostly it's rocking. They even played Soundgarden on Saturday :):D. It's better than anywhere else. Page is a sweathole... Buskers makes me laugh. Went to freedom and got kebab thrown in my face and started on cos I have long hair..... I'll stick to my rock thankyou very much.
- legends is great if u like the thrill of MDMA, buskers if u are brave, the page if u wear masive cords and say dude a lot
- Yeah, like Freedom. Many a night I have broken the law in there, not to mention a few young girls in half!
- rock night at the pagoda is no more
- Club Scene, diabolical. Talking from experience of having to Dj there. Wake up Carlisle, scene's are passsing you by!
- Legends has been revamped downstairs - it now has an amazing jbl system and wooden floor throughout, it's also nice and dark, I would say that this club has excellent potential, currently they only have the odd good night on and the rest of the time it's dead
- MOODS,over 21's thank god and they're quite strict aswell.Good range of music 70's,80's,90's,dance, pop and rock.Good atmosphere not much bother no kappa'slapper's tolerated or 10-men charva's.
FREEDOM,Full of school kids and young lads who think they're hard with their mates but shit themselves on their own.Dance, trance guest DJ's Carlisle's biggest club but no atmosphere £6.00 to get in for f***s sake!!!!!!!!!
C.A.1,Small but good atmosphere mostly over 30's, a bit of a shag palace at times.older women on the pull and old [35+]desperate men hanging around the dance floor hopeing for that one last shag before rigor mortis sets in but not half as bad as the......
MALT SHOVEL!!!,Legendary!!! for those too old, sad, ugly to pull.Popular with gypo's and Raffleites because its the only place they can get in. Allways bother most nights but good entertanment to watch two old slappers trying to pull the same saddo in the addidas top with no teeth, shit tatoos[mum+dad, a swallow ect]and a pock-marked face. It's good to walk into a club and say to a friend "CHRIST WE'ER THE BEST LOOKING LADS IN HERE!!".And mean it!!!
- Although the clubs are crap - I have to admit that once you live away you appreciate the fact that you are likely to know people in the clubs at Carlisle - so therefore when I get completely @rseholed, I am picked up and carried home (as people usually know where you live too - yes its that type of place) whereas in the big citys, I am left in the gutter!
- Moods, alround entertainment nightclub caters for over 21's.Large dancefloor,80's/90's music mostly dancemusic also live bands on some nigths.Has upstairs chillout zone and resteraunt also.
Freedom, huge nightclub popular with younger clubbers two huge dancefloors plays chartbased dancemusic also has guest DJs but nobody too famous.Has had Carl cox though and sasha.
- buskars We have the biggest niteclub in cumbria FREEDOM
- The Wheel for a bit of rock very cheap on Wednesdays(that's the one with remarkably young patrons though), The Page (now called Jacksons) for a good, cheap night out on tues +thurs. Not Freedom, whatever happens!
- I agree with alot of the points made above ALL THE CLUBS IN CARLISLE SUCK and that's the final worrd. However if you were to go to Jacksons or now Legends on A LUCID club night you would be amazed real DJ's like SEB FONTAINE, YOUSEF, FUTURESHOCK and loads more play all the time and it's a proprer super club atmosphere great music and fantastic DJ's, next ones JULY 20th 2001 and is gonna rock.
- Pagoda has closed and is now called "FREEDOM" which is the new in place. Being 38 my niece told me that. Pagoda was good though in the eighties.
- Shoom 1989, sorry nobody else from Carlisle was there!
I maybe saw a couple of you at the Hac! Maybe!!!
- Go to the Wheel or the Page/Jacksons. Only places for students, intelligent people etc. All other clubs are full of fat-necked checked-shirt-wearing divvies who are currently failing their car maintenance course at carlisle tech and have never left the town in their lives. The woman in said clubs are all atrocious, 18, bring down the reputation of Pedigree Chum, and have bucko boyfriends call Dazza who give them a slap.
Remember, you can call me biased, but you'll never call me wrong.
- Jacksons for a good night out, or the wheel. But for your own sanity AVOID BUSKERS AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!
- All the main clubs in carlisle are where the trendies and fags hang out generally, the main spot at the moment for punks, skaters, mettlers and so on is 'the coach house' in heads nook just outside of carlisle, they sometimes have bands playing there aswell.
- this summer it was buskers on monday (occaisionally) , wednesday (student nite after 5 a side footy at the sands with the boys) the occaisional Friday, and evry saturday.
The page on thursday for student nite and most tuesdays, and, now i am 18 and not 16, the wheel NEVER. We only used to go coz it was the only place we could get in! I swear i can still smell 'fresh n funky' in my nostrils now!
I came home from college one weeked and went in freedom and i wasnt impressed...u cant meet up with your mates in there like you could in buskers.
If they played music from the page in buskers that would be the best combinaton.
- The Front Page/ Jacksons on Fisher Street on a Thursday night - 50p vodka!!
- go to buskers for fights the malt for sex legacy for drugs
- Mick's Club
- The front page will be blessed with my pressence evey thursday. me & my crew are always there, making complete tits of ourselves
but hey, who gives a damn.
the front page is home to a gaggle of pissed up loons causing mayhem.
Jacko pulling very young girls.
- the wheel is brilliant! not quite full of mutilating 12yr olds, but close, anyway its a lot better now that emma is in charge! and can i say NEVER EVER GO TO BUSKERS, THE PAGODA, CATS or any of the other dodgy clubs full of idiotic charvers who think they are 'greebos' cos they like nirvana's teen spirit! the kings head is great bit of a dive but still cool!
- Buskers for the kiddies / those with little musical discernement but out to dance to lame house
the Front Page for a better night, but a fairly limited repartee
- buskers is shite!!!!lets face facts here and its the malt not the mault
- wheel.....erm...if u r a skin head, have a wallet chain and loads of piercings then you'll feel right at home in the wheel......legends if u r over 50 and otherwise just go to buskers....or Penrith!! even better believe it or not, but its true....carlisle clubs are just shoddy!!!
- The Twisted Wheel is no more full of narrow-minded people than anywhere else, and its indie/rock music policy caters for its audience so you can't really criticise itjust because you're not its audience.
- WELL, BUSKERS MAY BE THE CRAPPEST PLACE ON EARTH WHEN YOU SPEND 24/7 AT THE PLACE, BUT BELIEVE ME, IT IS POSSIBLE TO MISS THE SAD OLD PLACE. AND AS FOR THE MUSEUM-I WONDER WHICH ONE OF THE SAD INDIVIDUALS FROM NEWTOWN ROAD, BELLE VUE/SANDSFIELD PARK CAME TO THIS CONCLUSION!!!!! ALTHOUGH IT HAS TO BE SAID, IT IS QUITE A NICE PUB.
- Generally prehistoric or living in the eighties - plenty of scope for improvement particularly Buskers. If the management could sort themselves out this club could compete with top clubs like Cream or Gatecrasher - they are expanding but need better DJs to bring in the punters. There are virtually no promotions run by Carlisle clubs ie the have no creativity. The Twisted Wheel is full of twisted narrow minded people - and yes some are only 14 and yes some do cut themselves - I have seen these people. The page is where most students do, generally safer but Buskers is the best decorated - it has more comfortable chairs a better range of drinks and is about the biggest coherent club. Buskers is good but you're most likely to get beaten up there - carlisle is full of too many psychos
- Buskers upstiars holds residency to Neil and Patty - both nutters but can play some good tunes!
- hello first i would like to say that i thought your carlisle knollage was very good and presented in a funny atractive way, but i have to argew that the twisted wheel is a very bad night club......and i have been goin for twice a week for two years and i have never seen a forteen year old or someone who mutilates themselves.....it is just becouse the wheel is the only place in our great city that has broken away from the norm and decided to play allternative music.......much the same as the Front page. They also play great indie, rock, metal and hip hop. to think that all the people who read this are into dance music is silly asumption. If people in carlisle were not as narrow minded to think that becouse someone has a pair of combat pants and a black t shirt makes them wierd and antisocal, who cut themselves is plain ludicras......it is almost like saying every one who goes to a football match is a huligan...obviously wrong. i have lived in carlisle all my life and i love the place but it needs to jump forward to the 90s cos it aint even there yet.
thanks for listning....... e mail me with a response to toad29982@yahoo.com
- The nightlife in Carlisle has to be the worst in the country, the place is stuck in a time warp- those people from Carlisle City Council should visit cities like Leeds and Manchester to see what will bring in visitors, students etc. Buskers, Jacksons, Legends and the Wheel are not what people call a good night out.
- Good night at Legends called Perfect. Very popular with House clubbers. On about once a month and cost varies depending on DJ. Past DJ's include Farely Jackmaster Funk, Tom Wainwright and Greame Park. Membership available which entitles you to discount on entrance and newsletters.
Buskers is good but it is the same most nights now - it needs to do something new to liven the place up. New DJ downstairs on a Friday and he is really good. He doesn't talk as much as the others, but he blasts some blindin' tunes.
Club to avoid - never go to Mault Shovel unless you are over 35 or looking for an easy 'pull'! Full of old slappers and pervy old men or 13 - 14 year olds ahving their first taste of clubbing - enough to put them off for life! A complete dump. A club with curtains - well need i say any more!
- Dance scene: 1. Buskers- New floor opened, good dance music, good DJ, Well bouncered so less underagers, pay to get in - won't break the bank. 2. Legends- The popular second (upper) half to The Twisted Wheel. Don't have to pay or reduced pay if you have savers pass. Expensive drink, good dance floor, good music and good DJ. Bouncers present..very relaxed and security is not too good.
The middle floor of Legends is called Fresh and Funky for your info. 3.Pagoda- 100% chance of `Pulling' here. Expensive (5) to get in, drinks are expensive. Security and bouncers is often too strict, no jeans or trainers allowed. Be careful of local gangs who hang around!
- Indie Scene- There are two true Indie places where any student in their right mind should be: 1. The Twisted Wheel- Excellent in every way. Cheap, can lounge about anywhere (most people lie on the ground), very good music and good dance floor (often too much fake smoke), security is non existant and there are too many young drinkers adding and spoiling the fun! Be warned, it is very hot, so dress very cool!!! 2. The Front Page- Also excellent (except on Friday nights) all other nights are student nights. Has the best music (live local indie bands etc), has a good DJ - not a lot of dance floor space. Often gets a bit cramped (however, news has come to me that they are actually rennovating it - gasp!), excellent quiz and arcade machines. Upstairs is a technically different establishment called Jacksons. This is very, very good. You can hang about here all day drinking coffee and eating the fine homemade food... and then at night... you can do exactly the same - or get drunk... it's brilliant!! Also extremely hot - temperature wise, and that's no joke!!
- The Twisted Wheel very bad - the home of 14 year old freaks into self mutilation
- The Front Page is now renamed Jacksons after the renovation. Downstairs is now more than double the size and there is now toilets which won't kill you with the smell. A very good improvement. Still good value on Thursday night with vodka at 50p a shot.
