- The Brickyard is Carlisle's premier and only full time live music venue and has hosted some of the biggest names in music today.
We are ideally situated only nine mile south of the Scottish border, and an ideal stepping stone venue for any act on the way to, or from Scotland being ideally situated between Manchester and Glasgow or Edinburgh.
In the summer of 2002, The Brickyard was born out of a desire to revitalise Carlisle's flagging live music scene, which at that time depended upon tribute acts, the occasional local band gigging in local pubs and a few sporadic gigs aimed at an ageing audience. On New Years Eve 2002, Andrew McCormack and Garry Kerr opened the doors for the first gig...
The Brickyard is a venue that caters for a wide variety of musical tastes, we promote a wide range of bands and Dj's from Folk through Heavy Metal, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Drum 'n' Bass and Hip Hop.
The Brickyard is the only venue of it's kind in Carlisle and we are definitely unique in Cumbria if not the North of England in that we only promote local and touring "ORIGINAL ARTISTS", we prefer "NEW MUSIC" and there are no cover or tribute bands allowed.
Bands that have played at The Brickyard include everything from DJ's to 11 piece Drum 'n' Bass bands to and Jazz Orchestra's to Heavy Metal, so in no particular order:
Arctic Monkeys, The Little Flames, Hell is for Heroes, The Subways, Kasabian, The Zutons, The Cosmic Rough Riders, Ari Up (The Slits), Biffy Clyro, The Fall, Tom Hingley, Winnebago Deal, Chikinki, Octave Pussy, Splitters, Tom McRae, DJ Yoda, Nick Harper, 10,000 Things, Jah Wobble, The Scratch Perverts, Hondo Maclean, Tom Hingley's The Lovers, Reuben, The Selecter, Funeral For A Friend, THE*GA*GA*S, Brigade, Degrassi, The UK Subs, Psydoll, The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, The Verra Cruz, Aziz Ibrahim & Dalbir Singh Rattan, Albert Lee and Hogans Heroes, Josh Rouse, Dreadzone, Your Codename Is Milo, AMEN, Keiretsu, Tom Hingley, The James Taylor Quartet and Stiff Little Fingers to name but a few. The list is nowhere near complete...
As you can see our music policy is about as diverse as it gets...

- The Brickyard has some bands. However can I say that Jah Wobble was a pile of unmitigated donkey excrament. There is also the Sands Centre that does the occasional 'chart' act, plus a few times a year there are gigs at the Tithe Barn.
- Sands centre
- What about the Legendary Stars and Stripes, is "Big Les" Griffiths still around. How many bands played here in the 80's (Punk bands, Psychobilly bands, Ska bands, and even Chart stuff, Dr And The Medics played there the week "spirit in the sky" went to NO 1 in the charts, and, Sigue Sigue Sputnik played one of their first live shows there, the list is massive, and i was there for all of 'em) we could sure do with a few more like that around the country

- Brickyard pretty crap.
- The coach house has the whole folk music stuff. But a few young local bands show up sometimes. It's class for parties for the more babyfaced of us.
- The Sands centre is all i can think of, but even they get hardly any decent bands. Newcastle or Manchester is the nearest option to see a decent band.
