  • turf, totally fab love the student night on a tuesday and thursday, do a great quiz on a sunday make sure you have your id tho as they are really tight on that.
  • Fats is where all the cool kids hang out! *cough* *cough*
  • Crown at the top of stanwix, the redfern in st anns.
  • howard arms
  • Woodrow Wilson. mixed ages. No music so you can talk. And cheap drinks.
  • Most pubs in Carlisle are unmitigated donkey excrament. However, the Boardroom can be ok some nights, and Fats and the Guild on occasions.
  • HARRABY #1
  • THE MUSEUM BELLE VUE!!! USED TO BE A GOOD PUB !! BEEN A FEW DIVVI MANAGERS IN OF LATE, ESPECIALLY THE ONE NOW !!! COULDN'T PULL BIT OF STRING NEVER MIND A DECENT PINT SHE'S USELESS !! WHEN SHE ISN'T PEEVING AND SITTING ON HER ARSE !!! THE PEEVE IS WARM AND THE STUDENT BARMAIDS WHO ARE GENETICALLY INEPT, ME THINKS!! THEY TRY AND BE CLEVER AND DRAW A SHAMROCK ON THE HEAD OF YOUR GUINNESS WHICH TURNS OUT LIKE A "PISHED ON DANDELION" STILL SOME GOOD LADS GET IN, REGGIE,KEV REIRDON,SIMMY, BUSHY,MIKE KEYES, I HAVN'T BEEN IN FOR A WHILE AND WON'T GO BACK TILL THEY STOP ARSING AROUND DRAWING 18 LEAVED "TRIFFID SHAMROCKS" ON MY PINT, STILL ONE DAY WHEN THE BEVVY COOLS DOWN AND THEY GET PROPER SAUSAGES INSTEAD OF CUTTINGS OUT OF THE SKIP AT PIRRELLI'S I MIGHT GIVE IT ANOTHER GO!!!
  • the crown!!!!!!!!!
  • the scot in mortan the birds are weapons
  • the scot in mortan the birds are weapons
  • recently lots and lots of new pubs opening in carlisle- i like the boardroom and the beehive -good food and cheep drink! Also the guild- student union bar with the lovely Ellie and co.
  • Unit is da latest dissapointment to cum2 carlisle, and if wot they want is to attract a FRESH FACED crowd, unit is definately goin about it da wrong way by charging a hideous mount of money4 not so decent drinks. to all of u out there i wouldn't recommend goin there unless ur loaded.
  • Pippins used to be ok even when it was always empty. New management has brought in the wrong crowd... not recommended. The Howard is great for an afternoon pint. Yates has always been just that... Churchills was Finnegans and has started decaying, Kings Head is ok, Boardroom could do with a makeover but the crowd and staff are good, the drink is ok too. Griffin is often packed, good pub! Robertsons is clean looking, Sportsman is probably one of the few traditionals left in the city, certainly the only in the centre, serves good food, friendly crowd where work colleagues meet for a quiet pint if the bar staff have remembered to put their hearing aids in. Loads more pubs!
  • The only pub for alternatives to go to, and not get hassled most days of the year is the Boardroom. Dark, yet welcoming. Rather like a classy brunette.
  • the county bar 1989-91
  • Cant beat the Musem on a good night.
  • Near boot, but dont go there as thats our place
  • Reopen Studentland at The Cumberland on Botchergate. Just for me!
  • The Crescent - cinema and chip shop close by.
  • Pipins smells. Fat Fingers tried ta be good a called themselves wat everyone else called them for years, Fats is still good probably the best to start of a real sesh.
  • Now the Kings Head is under new management Mr Michael Edward Vose it has improved a huge amount good food and even better drink. Many other pubs need refurbished and prices reduced to join the year 2003 and not 1983
  • Linton Holme is worth a visit. As is the Royal Scot in Morton for an afternoon quiet one. Weatherspoons is dirt cheap - but just the same as you would find in any town
  • Moods! Why oh why oh why! Go in any Saturday night and see...old men leering over young girls in cowboy hats (permanant hen night city!)...Or if you are really lucky see women well into there 40s dressed like 20 year olds trying to relive their youth getting pissed on "alcopops". Send them all back to the Malt Shovel!! Ooops that place has gone now...wonder why!
  • The Crown & Thistle was the best place on earth in its hey-day.
  • Carlisle has an awful choice of pubs. The only decent one would be Yates wine lodge on a Saturday night. CA1 is quite Trendy but like a lot of places that look good in carlisle, they are spoilt by the unfriendly and ugly people that go there.
  • Nice pub behind Binns/Marks and Spencer Pippins nice for quiet pint White Lion Griffin?
  • there are some nice pubs but yet again some rough pubs, but again wherver you go you will always find the rough crowd!
  • you're right, carlisle has had a crash down on age limits, I have very recently turned 18 but have been out in carlisle many times before and for the past couple of months i get ID'd everywhere, even Buskers!! Now thats saying something!
  • Kings head has a graet enviroment but enter with an open mind!
  • yates is ok, dont go to leonardoes
  • Turf is cool.
  • Fresh faced? I was seventeen when I first started going to THE CROWN and THE CROWN & THISTLE. The former is infinitely preferable because they do glass bottles of coke. If you like a bit of cock meat (and remember men know what men like) then the Boardroom is for you - it's full of quafs and of a weekend they're all up for it, having spent the week fucking their farmyard animals.

  • The Rock! Boundary Road
  • I like ft's in the town, it's sort of modern/traditional without the tackiyness of pippins or even bar logo
  • WOODROW WILSONS,cheap drinks good atmosphere but lets in wino's in the daytime. THE GRIFFIN, converted bank on two floors expensive drinks nightclub prices. PIPPINS,abit rundown now but good in its time. HOWARD ARMS,cramped but great atmosphere. THE BOARDROOM,cheap drinks also rumoured to be an unofficial GAY bar. BAR-LO-GO,good atmosphere let down by "up their own arse" bar staff. THE WHITEHOUSE,cheap drinks and food, can get abit cramped good live music at weekends.
  • CA:1,popular with over 30's has small dance floor plays 60's/70's/80's/90's music rock and pop.Often described as a pick up joint but this is undeserved but does have alot of over 30's both male and female singles "on the pull".

  • the magpie in botch
  • FAT FINGERS - yeah! The Guild, the Turf (how we love it - best beer garden in town too), BA-LO-GO.
  • Friars Tavern (83) on a Sunday to pay Scooter club dues of £2 Never did find what it got spent on
  • Yate's is crowded out by scantily clad slappers and neds but the boardroom and finnegan's wake are probably the best pubs
  • when we fust started drinkin it was the Cumberland on botchergate...i swear ive never been in since i was 16...then it was the King's Head which was a bit of a dive...on a saturday night it was Finnegan's, Pippins and the n the wheel (those were the days!). Nowadays a saturday night is more like The Portland snooker club (a great place),Fat Fingers,Leonardo's and then onto Buskkers (or freedom nowadays). The Rambler on botch for a game of pool is always good on a weeknight, and the turf for an afternoon drink is a favourite too. Go to Woodrows for a cheap 2-meals-4-a-fiver and less than £1-50 a pint in the daytime. AT ALL COSTS AVOID GOING TO THE LAKES COURT HOTEL! I USED TO WORK BEHIND THE BAR THERE AND IT'S ARIP OFF! THIS WAS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AND IT WAS £2-20 A PINT AND £1-90 FOR A SHOT. ALSO THE GENERAL MANAGER AND GED CROOKES'S ARSEKISSER ANDY GARDINER IS A GRADE A CUNT. DAVID NELLIS WHO WORKS THERE IS ALSO THE MOST CAMP PERSON YOUVE EVER SEEN AND A COMPLETE WANKER TO BOOT. DONT GO THERE AND GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY, ALTHOUGH MOST OF THE WORKERS ARE GOOD LADS AND LASSES THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE ARE CUNTS (although eldon, cyril and old-boy-cyril-the porter are all good crack).
  • The Turf Tavern - handily close to Trinity School - for the over 18 sixth formers obviously!
  • THE AVENUE IF U R ARD ENUFF! ARRABY!
  • The Linton Holme
  • All the pubs in town are full of charvas. trying to be hard. all wearing the same fucking clothes...you know who you are.
  • The Griffin is a groovy gaff for a quiet afternoon pint. Or the Turf...
  • THE KINGS HEAD ROCKS!!! well its not as good now, but during uni holidays theres lots of great people in there!!!!
  • The Howard is the place to start . . .
  • Leonardos .The warsteiner lager is excellent
  • Turf, pipins, white house, golden lion , Bar logo
  • finnigans is the best..... its just quality!! great atmosphere.... they all need more pool tables however.... not the cellar bar though.... the pool table is incredibly low, could that be any connection with it being a gay bar......
  • The King's Head is a dive but I like it. It used to have the best jukebox in town 'til new management came. It's still OK though.
  • Gosling Bridge, Kingstown.
  • Pubs to avoid - all on botchergate unless you want your head kicked in
  • New bar where Mr Jingles was on the crescent - Ba Lo Go
  • 'The Haywain' at Little Corby....ahh! that dominoe shuffle, those red velvet walls, and the hushed gossip of the breaking news stories of the 50's. Fantastic.
  • New pub where the old Midland Bank used to be called The Griffin. Very nicely done out and is very popular. I went past about 10 pm on a Friday night and people were queing to get in it. Drinks reasonably priced - Yates has now met it's match! Yates is (or maybe was depending on how well the Griffin does!) the palce to be. Ok music but not a lot of chioce. Drinks very expensive. Usually the palce to go before Buskers. Other good pubs include Woodrow Wilsons, Finnignas, the White House and Chaplins. Pubs to stay clear of, are usually the ones down Botchergate (of course with the exception of Woodies!)
  • The Lane End, a quaint little establishment nestled in the roling green hills outside of Carlise, great sannies served by the best barmaid Donna Mae!
  • The most overcrowded pub in Carlisle has got to be The Howard Arms. If you want to have a drink there make sure you take a straw because you won't be able to move your glass up to your mouth. If someone sneezes at one side of the bar then the shock wave will push someone near the door out on the street. The pub football team take to the pitch in a tight huddled group because the wide open spaces make them feel very nervous.
  • Why is the Howard Arms noted in the pub section? I know Carlisle isn't blessed with the greatest nightlife, but still. Special mention must be made of the Museum pub in Belle Vue, The BEST local anyone could have!

  • As well as having certain Tardis-like qualities, The Howard does, in fact, serve a remarkably good pint - probably the best in the centre of town. The Museum at Belle Vue is notable for the number of potential brass rubbings available in the lounge. It is rumoured that the Landlord keeps a pencil and paper pad behind the bar for the use of the locals (if they can't stand the excitement of quiz night).
  • Yate's wine lodge, The White house, and the Hallowed Turf .
  • Crown and Thistle - good pub if you want to avoid under age people
  • The Boardroom Inn is a very friendly pub with good guest beers. It can get a little crowded sometimes but there is a pleasent lack of underagers and lager louts, unlike most of the rest of the pubs in Carlisle. Good for a quiet afternoon or Sunday pint. Football fans beware, the TV is tiny.
