  • The town time forgot is a quote I like from another post. 30 years behind the times... I remember shell suits in Cheltenham. Lovely to look at but you don't want to live here, some of us just have to. Good nights out though if you like to dance and drink stupid quantities. Some lovely social groups but you'll find after a year everyone in town knows you... my wife knew my brother 2 years before I chatted her up at the bus stop, even my dad knew her uncle, even worked with him (no we're not related other than by marriage, I came from hundreds of miles away). So you always know someone who knows someone who can get you a rare object to look at.

  • Born in London, raised, schooled, missioned in Currock, Carlisle. Settled in Leeds. Pleased I lived their. Carlisle gave me my sense of humour. If you can take the piss all day and night every day, and laugh at your self as well, then Carlisle's good for you. In Carlisle, if you have a fight with one man, or mot, you are likely to fight him every weekend or his mates every other weekend. Trick is don't fight. Easier said than done.Areas of Carlisle hate each other, but it's healthy. However, Carlisle really hates people not from Carlisle as a whole! If you are privvy to being in the Wheel and spot the brown leather jackets of Wigtonites, you know, they are going to get a hiding. Carlisle, does not dress in shite. If you do, you usually get yer head kicked in!But it does have a stunning Castle, home to the Kings Own, and Cadet heaven.

  • Everybody loves the old bloke who sells newspapers in the middle of the town. "There's only one or tow left" when it can be clearly seen that there is aboout 40 underneath!!!
  • I was born and raised in carlise, went to school at St. Aidans...moved to california in 1986. I had the good chance to return home for a vacation in May of this year. I think the town is looking much better, however, I believe the Burger King you reference has gone and botchergate seems to be changing for the better...eg. Co-op turns nice pub.
