Famous residents and ex-residents.
You can tell us more about Carmarthen.
Cringing Cult of Celebrity
- NO ONE!!!! everyones failiures and criminals!!!!!!
- Rhod Gilbert, comedian, Radio Wales DJ and TV Panellist is from Carmarthen.
Eastenders scriptwriter Rob Gittins lives nearby.
- Gorkys Zygotic Mynci, Y Tystion member & well known Anarchist/Welsh Activist Steffan Cravos (Ble maer Cymraeg?), Rhys Miles Thomas (hes in Very Annie Mary),
- Is that the same Tony Smiles who escaped from St.David's?
- Mark Thomas or "Gypo" as he is more commonly known.
This guy only has to open his mouth and the sweet talking just gushes out.
Oozing with sex appeal he never fails to impress the women in fact he doesnt need to open his mouth the ladies flock round him.
I have seen him walk out of a club with one on each arm.
He is a true heart breaker and a legend on the surf board too.
- Bernie.Famous around town. Can be seen in several pubs or walking around town with a portion of chips in his hands.Constantly reverting back to late 80s early 90s tunes especially Erasure.Clean off bloke, does anything for a laugh, favourite sayings include "Mallow" "Fucthyamuvver" and of course "Mush" like every true Carmarthenite says.
- Mark Thomas.Or "Gypo" as most know him. This guy is clean well groomed and handsome boy."Lush Mush" as I have heard many a woman say.And while were on the subject the guy pulls every time he goes out.Without fail he will take some bird home at the end of the night......well not home ....but you know what I mean.Lets just say we know what he means when he says "Im going surfing".......NOT THE SEA KIND.
- Terry Griffiths, snooker player.
- Megan Lloyd George, daughter of the guy who knew my father, and father knew him too, was MP for Carmarthen(before my time)
- Tony Smiles
- Niel Morrisey owns a hotel or something near by - bit of a freak if you ask me - met him a few times&really wanted to tell him to stop doing those stupid Homebase ads with fish lips.
- Gerald Davies, very famous former welsh rugby star went to the Boys' Gram
- Mike Doyle the comedian, and that famous snooker player, no one amazingly interesting.
- Andrew Fletcher is a local and national celebrity who everyone loves!
- Mathew Stevens (snooker bloke&all-round arsehole).
- The drummer from stereophonics owns a pub in Carmarthen now!
- David Gray didn't attend CCTA Pibwrlwyd (unless he's secretly been back to study catering or small animal handling - or both, - it's always good to have something to fall back on) - He did a Foundation Course in Art and Design at CCTA Job's Well Road campus in 1986 -1987. I know because I was there the same year. I think he threw up on my carpet once. He liked to drink a lot of Thunderbird wine. These two facts may be related. If only I'd bottled his vomit - I could've made a fortune on e-bay.
- Ray Gravell, Wales and Britsh Lion rugby star, now President of Llanelli RFC, went to Carmarthen Boys Grammar School.
- Super Furry Animals and Zabrinski both hail from Bro Myrddin. Both now reside firmly in Cardiff. Oh and Brian...
- Peter Hughes Griffiths, actor, writer, ex-Mayor, politician.
Dylan Thomas, we all know him.
- David Gray was brought up in neighbouring Pembrokeshire (Solva to be precise) but apparently he attended CCTA in Pibwrlwyd.... it can't be such a bad place!
- Erm...various rugby players. Merlin the magician!
- mick barber is always worth tracking down for a bit of local street-poetry/surrealism...
- Cridland (Mock mayor of Llansteffan)
- Mathew Stevens can be seen regularly driving around Carmarthen in his Ferrari.
- Merlin the magician. Delme Thomas, Ieuan Evans, Stephan Jones, Justin Thomas, Welsh rugby internationals.
- Andrew Rees (tenor)
Euros & Megan Childs (Gorky's Zygotic Mynci) - ex-Bro Myrddiners
John Nash, he who designed Buckingham palace
- Caradoc Evans... a writer who became reviled in Wales for his depiction of Carmarthenshire's inhabitants as inbred, deformed, immoral, twisted beings that manipulate people with false religion and social pressure.
The book was called "My People", recommended reading if you ask me.
After that I know of no one from this town who amounted to anything... how could they? But of course!!! MERLIN was supposedly born here. Yeah, and Gandalf to probably. I know that places with no future turn to their past, but it's got to be pretty damn bad when they turn to fiction!
- Gorki Zygotic Mynci went to Bro Myrddin, that's about it, oh and Merlin!
- I noticed Matthew Stevens wasn't mentioned. Pro snooker player from Carmarthen, in the top 10 in the world with a bright future. And I met him in the Wine Bar and the Waterside. Wow! (sarcasm)
- Terry Griffith has a snooker club
- Any of the Shamby's, they're all infamous!
Miss A. Gringe, you must have seen that photo of her 'best assets' that's circulating the town.
Oh yeah, and 'Mega', that really, uh, 'talented' hambone boy band. Cos the world really needed another boy band, and the fact that they sing in Welsh makes them even more mega! Ha! Ha! Ha!
- Merlin;
Mike Doyle;
- Basically the only celebrities to come out of this town are rugby players. But the next generation will hopefully change that. There are a few of local celebrities including Meirion the local policeman and Robert Lickley from the Queens Hotel.
- Nicki from Brotherhood of Man!!!
- Famous sporting sons associated with the town:- Ieuan Evans, Justin Thomas, Emyr Lewis, Roy Bergiers.
